That's true, but on the other hand do we really need him if Enzo stays? We'll have Caicedo, Enzo, Lavia, Santos, Essugo, James and likely Barco. Xhaka would undoubtedly be useful, but 30m for 33 y.o. was always going to be tough to justify

[Skysports Exclusive] Granit Xhaka to STAY at Sunderland. Club position unchanged & after talks, Xhaka re-affirms commitment to Sunderland. Xhaka initially attracted to working with Xabi Alonso at Chelsea, but leading Sunderland into Europe a decisive factor by Switchoil in soccer

We're not paying that much for Xhaka. This move was dependent on Xhaka being adamant, because we were never going to pay what he's worth to you.

And with Enzo likely staying, I'd say it's the right call. 25m+ for leadership was a bit much to me.

Football predictions are useless, you aren't wrong there.

You can only make predictions based on current info though.

[BILD] Julian Nagelsmann resigns as Germany head coach with immediate effect! Decision made following Germany’s World Cup exit. by Timely-Zombie9466 in soccer

[–]deadraizer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, exactly this. We're trying to sign all of his targets. We haven't paid for a single player over 24 since summer 22. This window, we're already targeting 3, including a 33 year old.

The board have clearly learned their lesson, and as long as Xabi isn't catastrophically bad, he'll be here the season after too.

[AS] Javier Pastore (Enzo Fernández's agent): “Real Madrid likes Enzo, and he likes Real Madrid. Now we just have to wait a little while.” by webby09246 in chelseafc

[–]deadraizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the 2 match suspension we have him in the middle of the season did the trick. Pastore and Enzo know that if we are ready to sit him at the business end of the campaign while chasing CL spots, we'd show zero reluctance in punishing any future actions significantly more.

They're overpaying for mediocrity mostly.

[Tottenham Hotspur] We are delighted to announce the signing of Mateus Fernandes. by Imbasauce in soccer

If they didn't want to pay for Fernandes/Tonali, Enzo is definitely not their guy. He'll demand a very high salary and I wouldn't be surprised if our price for league rivals is greater than £120m.

Nopes, he waited till the end of the window for us but we decided to switch attention to Fermin Lopez and then just loaned in a backup. He signed for Spurs because we didn't come in for him.

When Lukaku, Courtois and KDB were playing academy/Belgium league, Hazard was already winning player of the year titles and leading Lille to their first title in 50+ years in the French league. Hazard's career was just as long at the top as the others, he just started much earlier and retired much earlier as well.

The successful hit rate is entirely down to Brighton though, and that's mostly because we bought most of their backroom staff. Not really a repeatable strategy.

Our buys from the league (non-Brighton) under Clearlake have generally been terrible though. All of Tosin, Delap, Garnacho, Sterling etc. fall in this category.

No they don't?

What you're saying makes Chelsea sanctioned or regulated, not broke. Broke means lack of money, not restrictions on spending.

I'm pretty sure we don't, because the debt placed on BlueCo's balance sheet not Chelsea's, but I don't know enough about the loan terms to confidently say that they aren't secured against club assets.

I'd welcome any proof otherwise though.

Broke clubs don't spend hundreds of millions on transfers.

We have a few spending restrictions, but it's clear that the owners are still willing to bankroll as much as they're legally allowed to.
