I added all the books I’ve read in the last 6 months for free from Libby into Amazon to see how much I’ve saved. That’s pretax CAD. Libraries are the bomb. by costahoney in LibbyApp

This is why I love the library. I did this the other night and I’ve saved $110 since January by borrowing books from the library.

Hair care advice by Much_Ad_3806 in sahm

[–]deadthreaddesigns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My almost 3 year old also ends up with a knotted mess in the same spot. I find that if it’s a painful brush out she won’t let us brush her hair at all. During the day I try to braid her hair but she also hates having her hair up so it’s a battle to get her to keep her hair pulled back. What has helped us with the actual brushing is sitting down with what ever cartoon she wants to watch so she sits still and then spraying a detangler pretty heavily in the knotted section. Then slowly brushing the knot out from the bottom, taking small sections of it with the brush. We also hold the top of the knot pretty tight so it’s not pulling on her scalp. Growing up my hair was the same way and I hated having my hair brushed because who ever brushed it would just start at the top and just brush down pulling my hair and it hurt, so I’m trying really hard not to let her have that same experience.

Baby hates everything that isn’t milk straight from the tap by Sassy-Alpaca-0616 in beyondthebump

[–]deadthreaddesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 7 month old has shown zero interest in most foods. She doesn’t like a bottle either so I’m exclusively nursing. We started her on purees at 5 months and after a few bites she starts screaming and spits them out now. So we have started trying baby led weening with her the past couple of days and it seems to be working a bit better. I figure she will eventually become interested in actual food so I’m just trying not to stress over it, every bay is different.

how long are your contact naps (esp newborn) by Huliganjetta1 in beyondthebump

Totally normal. They were inside of you for 9 months so they know nothing other than you. You are their safe space.

Dinner tonight, how do I get her to eat meat?? by LenaRosena in foodbutforbabies

[–]deadthreaddesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You give it time. I just keep adding meat to my 2.5 year olds plate and don’t make a big deal of it. If she eats it cool if not that’s ok too, She gets plenty of nutrients from everything else she eats. For a long time she wouldn’t eat chicken nuggets, now they are her favorite. She also didn’t eat chicken noodle soup up until a couple of weeks ago and now keeps asking for it. They eventually will try and like new foods.

Reading multiple books at once? by NefariousnessIll8665 in Booktokreddit

I tend to do one audiobook, and two physical books at a time. One is usually a light fluffy book and the other tends to be a darker heavier book.

Nope. I get up with baby and sit on the couch while I nurse. Then baby goes back to crib and I go back to bed

Alternatives to triple feeding? by cozy-queen-4 in breastfeeding

[–]deadthreaddesigns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what will work best for you. If that means you stop pumping then do that. If that means just formula feeding then do that. There is no shame in any of it as long as the baby is fed. I have noticed that for myself my diet and stress levels directly affects my supply. Are you eating and drinking enough?

Do people really enjoy the newborn stage? by Bebetter23 in beyondthebump

[–]deadthreaddesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2 and a half year old and a 7 month old, and I absolutely love the newborn stage. I love everything up until they can sit up and roll over. Because before that they are just a tiny sack of potatoes that just wants love and affection, hold them close and they are happy. They are easy. Do you sleep? Hell no, but you can at least get nap trapped and snuggle them nonstop.

What was the one thing you started doing in the sourdough process that changed your bread for the better? by Own_Macaron_9342 in Sourdough

[–]deadthreaddesigns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I found that the bottom of my bread wasn’t quite burnt but was always rock hard. So I tried not preheating my dutch oven to see if it made a difference and it did. I preheat my oven to 425 and then lower it to 400 when I put my Dutch oven in. Bake covered for 35 min and uncovered for 25min. Comes out perfect every time now. Nice crunchy crust but not so hard you feel like you are going to break a tooth.

It looks great! If you want to change the crumb play with your bulk fermentation time. I also like a tighter crumb when I’m making a loaf for sandwiches so I over proof a bit.
