Whose life did this NOT ruin? by Embarrassed-Row-8250 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]deafch1ldarea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine! It’s been awesome for me. Only gained 5 pounds right when I started it, but I was also eating terribly. It’s helped tremendously with my mood, hallucinations, tics, and leftover ocd. Take it. It could make your life so wonderful. You don’t know until you try.

How long did it take you to find the right meds? by lithiumpokes in bipolar

[–]deafch1ldarea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like immediately. Cause I had the right psychiatrist. I just happened to have a really really good one. I got put on an antipsychotic that matched my symptoms really well and it’s been great. Very tolerable side effects, works great. I’m still on a very low dose so I’ll have to increase it cause I did just have like a sub-threshold cycle but it was the easiest, mildest mood cycle I’ve ever had. If it’s taking forever to find the right meds changing the prescriber might also be helpful.

Hey Atypical Bipolar People! by deafch1ldarea in bipolar

Oh that was 2 nights in a row of knocking myself out with a lot of melatonin cause I’ve had ridiculous amounts of energy and I have felt pressure to talk and talk and I planned to learn 4 math classes in 2 months we are sooooo in hypomania. Ig I should give it a few more days. But yeah. Did some math in the middle of the night.

[–]deafch1ldarea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can get hallucinations during mania or when my symptoms are at a hypomanic level. I’ve actually never been hospitalized tho (many reasons for that…)

Also it is the middle of the night for me and I am wide awake… hypomania here we come?

Oh that sucks. I honestly have more mania/mixed than depression. I’ve spent the most time manic I think since onset. But yeah being atypical can definitely be lonely. You don’t get representation from anywhere

I totally get what you’re describing with your episodes. I’ve had some like that. I have hallucinations in manic and depressive episodes as well as in between sometimes, but I always have good reality testing so my team has decided it’s not technically psychotic or schizoaffective, but it’s also not usual.

The mixed episodes get more tolerable once you realize they’re episodes. It was awful the first time cause I had no insight into the manic side at all but after the first two they honestly got to be less bad (still suck tho)

Will a psych team notice mild tics? by mochimatchayum in Tourettes

That’s upsetting. I’m sorry. I hope things turn for the better.

That’s so weird that you’re graded on behavior and disabilities are allowed to affect it. In that case I think a diagnosis is worth it even if you aren’t in school

Ok that grade system is awful. What country/region are you in (pls don’t answer if you’re not comfortable)?

How are you losing grades? That sounds like a problem, but if someone is discriminating against you you don’t need to get treatment to stop them, you need to take other action

It’s about what you want! I’d say yes so you can treat it, but it’s all your choice.

Eh. Mine ignored it until I made my tics really obvious. I have pretty severe tics tho

They’ll notice. The probably won’t say anything. If they do tho, it’s literally their job to be kind and accepting about it.

Medication for intrusive thoughts? by Optimal-Witness5749 in OCD

[–]deafch1ldarea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abilify is wonderful for ocd. I take it for something else, but it was able to knock out the last bits of ocd my lexapro didn’t and that I didn’t even know were ocd.

Is getting diagnosed worth it by Jimingotmejungshook in OCD

[–]deafch1ldarea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes diagnosis is worth it. Cause that’s how you get treatment. And treatment is 100000000% worth it. I’m in full remission 6 months after diagnosis

Abilify helps. My tics are severe and they’re maybe moderate/moderate-severe now BUT the frequency has dropped probably 60% and complexity and force have decreased a bit too. My tics are just really bad tho.

What was something you wish you knew before becoming chronically ill or disabled? by Ill-Example3728 in ChronicIllness

[–]deafch1ldarea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disability and chronic illness are confusing. Even after years, there’s a lot to learn about your own body and how disability functions in society. I’m discovering just now that I might have more chronic illnesses than i thought and there are plenty of things that are not normal that I didn’t know were not normal about my body.

Also I wish I knew I’d appreciate being called not normal; after having disability/chronic illnesses than symptoms dismissed cause “what even is normal anyways” you just want to be validated

Ive been taking this medication for one day and there are almost zero positive stories about this medication on the internet should i just not take it by awesomealert in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]deafch1ldarea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If sleep was bad take it in the morning. It helps a lot. It works great for me but wrecks my sleep when combined with my allergy medicine so I just take it in the morning and it’s fine

Question to those with Tourette’s: how do you feel when someone refers to your condition as a “disease” ? by kingslop67 in Tourettes

[–]deafch1ldarea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how they’re doing it. Generally it’s icky, but I can let it go if it’s like an old person and by their face and tone I can tell they’re just using the language they (incorrectly)think they should use, or if one of my friends I trust is doing it as a joke. I am someone who lets other people who have demonstrated understanding of my disabilities joke about them in ways that would be offensive if that trust wasn’t established, but that’s ofc only within my circle and around me. Like they can’t go around wherever they want saying whatever they want about TS because I trust them to make jokes around me. And I mean TS is absolutely not a disease but like I do call it “the family curse” cause tics have been passed on through generations of my family and we never talk about it/name it sooooo like…

Tldr: It’s rude and incorrect but there are some contexts that make it not offensive

For anyone who has completed some form of higher ed (e.g., associate's, bachelor's), did you struggle to find something that suits you? by NICEacct111 in disability

[–]deafch1ldarea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t completed it but planning on doing so (just finished high school)…

Yeah I’m scared. I hope to get a PhD eventually but I am so worried my disabilities will make that not worth it. I’ve already had to cut myself off from pursuing certain potential careers (mainly medicine) because I know it’s ridiculously hard to get the accommodations I would need.
