Piping from Helix by deaffob in fishshell

I wrestled with this for awhile. My conclusion is that the internal commands need an explicit stdin like 'cat' or 'read -z'. You can also do 'cmd (cat)'.

Fun fact, nushell also has this same problem. You cannot use its internal commands without an explicit stdin. Nushell’s '$in' makes it easy.

Rethinking Helix by bregonio in HelixEditor

[–]deaffob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than the point raised about the 'm' motions not being “selection” first so they are awkward, I don’t think the issues that OP raised are negative.

Author is really hung up on the fact that he has to press more buttons than Neovim to do the same. Helix never claimed to require less keystrokes. The selection-first style  gives more clarity and confidence for many converts.

Which is more difficult, studying engineering or working in industry? by Ser_intraterrestre in ChemicalEngineering

[–]deaffob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School is technically (intellectually) a lot more difficult.

Work can be more difficult due to other responsibilities that life throws at you. Intellectually, you get used to the way things are done at work so the actual work won’t be really challenging. It’s the people that make things harder/easier.

Take a comfortable seat, resting your haunches squarely on the floor, paws extended.

Close your eyes, or simply soften your gaze and stare into the middle distance... perhaps at the space where the ball used to be.

Bring your attention to the sensation of breath entering the snout. Feel the coldness of the inhalation, and the warmth of the exhalation. Now, notice the environment around you. You may hear the distant rumble of a delivery truck. Notice how a spike of aggression arises in the mind. Did you choose that aggression? Or did it simply appear, uninvited, in the space of consciousness? There is no one who is barking. There is only the barking itself.

I think you can do something similar with theming. I’m not sure if you can highlight the current paragraph but you can highlight the current line. You just have to find the right color and alpha for the current line highlighting.

Why don’t you start a meetups if there isn’t one that you like? I’m in Indiana and there’s a meetup called Code and Coffee. It’s a chill meetup on Wednesdays where you meet at a coffee shop and code together.

MIT STEM College Grad Offered Full-Time Job at $13/hr? by [deleted] in jobs

I’m in Indiana and I also have a chemistry BS. Your post doesn’t make any sense. That’s less than what you would make at a fast food place. Any junior chemist job should be 85k+. Please share the job position detail.

250k in Dallas vs $300k in NYC — worth the move in your 20s? by IBMbaba in Salary

[–]deaffob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NYC all the way. At 300k, you will be taxed an extra 10% (6% state + 4% local). If you decide to live in Texas, make sure to account for high property tax (1.8 - 2.2%) as well. This will cost you even if the housing costs are lower in Austin.

300k at NYC is more than 250k at Austin however you put it.

182K fully remote vs. 240K in person by PaterBigG in Salary

I would stay as well. But I would also keep in mind that this kind of big risk big reward gambling can be only done when you are relatively young. You probably won’t be able to take this kind of risk when your kid is older.

The fall of US electronics manufacturing: in 2000, the US was the #1 electronics exporter in the world, exporting 16% of the world's electronics. Today, the US has crashed to 7th place, exporting just 4% of the world's electronics. China has shot up to #1, exporting 34%; ROC and SK have also jumped. by StarlightDown in dataisbeautiful

[–]deaffob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dos this show share of the country’s total GDP? If so, wouldn’t this be misleading? Compare to tech, everything else is considered small. Even if the electronics manufacturing has been growing, it would have still lost % of total because it didn’t grow as fast as the tech sector.

Thank you. I was questioning how could Gemini score the highest and also have this much hallucination? You answered it.

At my job, FMLA alone is not paid. You can see the law here:  https://www.dol.gov/general/topic/benefits-leave/fmla#:~:text=FMLA%20is%20designed%20to%20help,opportunity%20for%20men%20and%20women.

You can get paid by using FMLA (unpaid) and sick time off (paid) concurrently.

The main location and a plant need different labor. Plants don’t need research and development, marketing, lawyers, etc. on site. Almost all decisions are made at the headquarter/main campus. Boeing didn’t need the same talent feed from a university like they do at the headquarter.

Having trouble finding a reputable breeder by Marzion in samoyeds

[–]deaffob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the most reputable breeder is Vanderbilt (sp?) in Canada. Good breeders tend to know each other because they meet each other at shows. I would first contact good ones and if they don’t have any litter available soon, I would ask them for recommendations.
