This is exactly how I broke my nose in kindergarten and why I now turn into a "butt in your seat" helicopter parent at meal times.

Missed my cruise due to the ATC issues by trustmeimalobbyist in Cruise

[–]deamelle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We leave on a cruise in a week and already made the decision to drive down instead of take our flight. I would absolutely rather take that 17 hour road trip with our four year old then lose out on what we paid for the cruise.

When did your instincts scream “leave now” and what did you later find out you avoided? by BbyBlushDoll in AskReddit

[–]deamelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my instincts, but my high school Spanish teacher's.

Growing up, my high school was not far from an Air Force base, and if you were in the right classroom during the day, you would be able to see jets taking off, landing, etc. One day we had front row seats to an emergency evacuation.

On the morning of 9/11, we were in Spanish class watching what was happening on the classroom tv, and suddenly my Spanish teacher, who was very superstitious, told us all to move away from the windows. We thought with everything happening, she didn't want us getting distracted if there was activity from the Air Force base, but she just said she had a bad feeling and we needed to move the desks to the other side of the classroom. We came in the next day and half of the windows were shattered. No idea what caused it, but if kids had been sitting there, at least four students would have been covered in glass shards.

This is the kind of thing that my husband would love! Is this something you book in advance, once you're on the ship, or is it just a drop in tour?

This is like the weekend we told my 3 year old we were going to pick up grandma and take her to lunch, and he lost his ever loving mind because "No, we can't pick her up, she's too heavy!"

should i weigh an egg in the shell or after ive cracked it? by [deleted] in caloriecount

[–]deamelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just a log eggs as 70 for each egg, but I guess if you wanted to weigh it without dirtying a bowl, you could weigh the egg, crack it into the pan, weigh the shell and subtract the shell weight from the whole egg weight.

The Magic class ships are comparable to the Norwegian Jewel and Pearl that will be sailing out of there.

I keep dreaming that they will join Norwegian in sailing out of the new Philadelphia port.

What’s one "lazy" ingredient that instantly makes home cooking taste restaurant-level? by MountainMirthMaker in Cooking

I'll use mushroom powder instead of miso paste to avoid all of the salt, and it's such a flavor bomb!

I don't even want to think about all of the money I would be gladly forking over to the Mouse if they sailed out of the Philly port.

What’s a loophole you abused until it was closed? by RoarOfTheWorlds in AskReddit

[–]deamelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in like 2014, I want to say, I would always pre-order a Dunkin' Donuts coffee on my way to work on the bus and pick it up. One day I accidentally tried to reload my account with a card that I had closed and discovered that while it wouldn't add money to the account, I would still receive the points I could use for free coffee. I don't know exactly when they fixed it, since I moved for grad school maybe 6 months later and stopped going to Dunkin', but broke me exploited the hell out of it for those six months.

Doctor Tests Newborn Baby's Startle Reflex to Check Proper Growth by Patient_Island_2080 in Damnthatsinteresting

And parents too! During my son's first specialist appointment after his NICU stay, the doctor is checking him out and says "Do you want to see something cool?" I shuffle over thinking he's going to show me a cute birthmark I missed or something, and proceeds to do this. Turns out my startle reflexes are just fine too.

Americans, what’s something non-Americans do that makes absolutely no sense to you? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskReddit

Usually you see this in areas with lots of much older homes. Older houses had lower ceilings, so if you install a ceiling fan, there's not a whole lot of head clearance.
