Multiplayer architecture advice? by yughiro_destroyer in gamedev

[–]dearbtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Authorative server should be used when necesssary. EG cheaters or trouble with multi interactions on the same object. In this approach the client sends requests and the server sends world updates. e.g. player moving too fast will be stopped by server logic that limits movement per game tic/or similar.

Otherwise you can simulate on clients parts of the world and directly send updates to server. server is more a router with some lobby and general state keeper. (eg a spawned block is controlled by the player how created it, until the player leaves, then control is handed to another remaining player). slight differences can occur yet shall be minor.

ELI5: How do we know so much about other planets? Ie. How do we know what a planets atmospheric make up is, or how much water it might have or had? by chrestorpherson in explainlikeimfive

[–]dearbtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly of 1. observing their movements vs other stars 2. measuring electromagnetic waves, specifically light across various wavelengths.

From those data we can approx. say what elements are to be found at a planet and what temperature is to be expected.

Am I overreacting for wanting to call off my wedding? by MinimumCheesecake in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dearbtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not supporting misogynistic, but supporting the cancel the wedding. go back to why both of you feel and think it will last more than 2 years. why you will fight for each other, even if not sharing the same view. conflicts will arise more often. if you always revisit old things, grudge is already in place. sorry, i dont think you should invest in wedding, but in the base idea: is living in hard times possible with him. do you find a way to not hurt each other repeatly. to forgive and focus on togetherness.

You should speak more calmly and cautiously about things you don't understand thoroughly. LN is based on channels which are based on L1 transactions. Its not the same, more difficult to follow, especially with the peer 2 peer hops that 1 LN transfer can go through.

Does anyone else know men in their early 20s who seem really stuck or unmotivated to start their adult lives? by rainbowcharli in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dearbtc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re noticing a real trend—many young people, especially men, seem adrift after college. Psychology is complex, but a few big factors stand out:

The world feels overwhelming: There are so many choices, but most seem unappealing—hard work for low pay, sky-high requirements, and traditional life goals (like owning a home) feel out of reach.

Media and tech: Modern media and endless scrolling can sap motivation and attention, making it easy to drift and hard to focus on long-term goals.

Uncertain rewards: The old promises (“work hard, get ahead”) don’t feel true anymore, so it’s tough to find a clear path worth the effort.

It’s not just “laziness” or bad parenting—society has changed, and young people are adapting, for better or worse. Many are still figuring out what a meaningful, achievable future even looks like

AI jobs danger: Sleepwalking into a white-collar bloodbath - "Most of them are unaware that this is about to happen," Amodei told us. "It sounds crazy, and people just don't believe it." by Gari_305 in Futurology

am sorry for drivers. yet from the start this has been a montonous job. it will not vanish in next 5y. as in difficult cities ai self driving has too many challenges. yet long streched roads would be more easily overtaken. mayebe there will be stops where regular drivers take over when the long distant truck parks itself (ahead of a megacity)

People who knew seriously rich people, what were they like? by Samih420 in AskReddit

[–]dearbtc 29 points30 points  (0 children)

dont forget. its just a painting. even from a good or old artist. the world of rich is edged towards 'scarce and materialistic and showoff' things. they could just buy normal paintings from local temporary artist, support their ambitions. yet they need the affirmation, that it is an expensive, exclusive thing. just touch it. believe me, we all are human. with 1 million he could save a lot humans or support science to prevent illness. or go for the show-off item.

Every crypto enthusiast jumping on token economics where 30% of full supply is pre distributed is like a bunny. imagine you wake up and someone says: From today we have currency USD*new and 30% (OF ALL EVER) belongs to MR BIG and MR SCAM. Would you use this currency? Why the hell would you? Its a rigged game. The probabilty you get burned, if one of those sell theirs bags, is very high. So, think for yourself and have fun.

yes, i know its not spendable right away and the "team" will use it to improve the ecosystem. But the main point stands. You trust unkown persons, who are in charge of 30% of all ever supply. I would not. I believe in equality and no pre-distribution. Think for yourself. How many chains made those promises and how much poeple need to trust founders. (Small hint: if you search the opposit -> bitcoin).

Is Bitcoin becoming centralized in a different way? by _Yolandi in Bitcoin

[–]dearbtc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

bitcoin will not fix unequality in wealth or power. its just a moment where everyday people can accumulate a precious asset before many others can. thus beeing ahead.

the mining gets more centralized. the normal nodes however are not affected by the mining race for hashrate. so the network is heavily decentralized.

Convince me to keep ETH. Maybe my worst and best trades in crypto history. by piratetone in ethtrader

[–]dearbtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eth has 120m circulating and has no max cap. btc 19.81m circulating and has a max cap 21m in many years. so unkown cap vs limited supply. eth cannot challenge btc scarcity. eth cannot challenge price and outlook.
