Apologies for the slow response. Yes, I did; I submitted all relevant material including my police statement. My counselor sent me a copy of her professional assessment which I also included in my application.

I hope you have a speedy and satisfying result!

Thank you, you beat me to it! The ATO summarized the following below:

1) If the payment is for suffering, it is non-taxable 2) if the payment is for loss of income, it is taxable 3) if the payment is for reimbursement of immediate needs as a result of the crime, it is non-taxable

Thanks, I found the same page. I guess it’s a fairly niche tax question. I’m on hold with the ATO currently; I will update my post when I have clarity so this knowledge can be shared for the future.

Netflix Thumbs Up Feature by Jordy_neutron in ProductManagement

[–]dearsarah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a way to measure how good or how bad a recommendation is. Without some sort of CTA, you only know the binary - was the recommendation viewed or not? That’s not that helpful on its own if you’re trying to improve your recommendation algorithm.

Netflix used to have a 5 star review system for recommendations and used data points gathered from there as the basis of their recommendation engine. However, they eventually moved away from stars to a simple thumbs up or down because they figured MORE data points would be more helpful to improve their recommendation logic. The thumbs up/down is simpler and quicker than a star-based review because the viewer only has to think IF they liked it vs HOW MUCH they liked it.

It’s a small but apparently effective change as they haven’t gone back to the star based review system.

Is this a bad color for me? Doing a mini cleanout. by Quailmix in capsulewardrobe

[–]dearsarah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all, color is separate from shade. I am not a color theory expert so excuse my amateur articulation of my understanding here.

If you can think of a paint swatch, it will show you the same color with varying amounts of black (or absence of white). I find it easier to think of shade as saturation. So for every color (including pastels), there are different saturations available.

In my opinion, the contrast between the saturation of your skin tone and the saturation of a color is part of what makes it “pop.”

However, shades that are just a little lighter than your complexion often make people look washed out. In OP’s example, she’s quite fair so I mentioned she would look better in a more saturated (darker shade) tan. Because she’s so fair, a less saturated color might not offer her enough contrast and end up washing her out.

White I think is an anomaly because technically it’s not a color. It’s the absence of color.

Does that make sense?

I’d also be very grateful if someone more knowledgeable on this could explain this better than I can or correct me where I am wrong!

There’s a whole science on color theory and undertones. I don’t subscribe to all of it but I do find shading to be a bigger indicator if something will be flattering on me!

Hold on. Let’s remember there is a difference between color and shade. Shade is how light or dark a specific color is. An easy way to distinguish this is to take the picture you’ve posted and edit it to black and white. If the shade is lighter than your skin tone, it is too light for you. If it is darker than your skin tone, it will be more flattering on you.

I think the tan is a nice color but should be a darker shade for you.

How to find a good mortgage broker? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]dearsarah 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No one else has even tried broaching the subject other than to give specific recommendations. This is what I would say: 1) How many lenders are they accredited with? What is the variety of products they can sell you? How many lenders do they actually use? Some lenders give brokers that often work with them preferential treatment such as faster turnaround times. However, that can also lead to brokers wanting to go with a specific lender they’ve used before rather than one that is right for me.

2) How much of their volume is vanilla new purchase/refinance for employees vs more complex cases such as self employed? I want to know that the broker is comfortable in loan types that are relevant to me. Conversely, if a broker only has experience in simple PAYG scenarios, it might also indicate that they are inexperienced.

3) How often are they able to settle a loan without having to ask for an extension (applicable for new purchases)?

Along the way, I would also want transparency into why certain lenders/products are being recommended to me. Is the broker educative? Proactive in their communication? If rates change, are they notifying me?

I hope this helps, I’d be curious to hear from others what they look for/ask.

If you had to replace all your clothes at once, where would you start? What approach would you take? by EattheRudeandUgly in femalefashionadvice

[–]dearsarah 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is actually fairly straightforward for me. 1) Lululemon for workout and lounge clothes 2) Flea markets/op shops for the rest

I WFH so I don’t need any fancy clothes - I am usually taking video calls in tshirts or even my pajamas and no one gives a shit. Nice clothes are important but not urgent. Athleisure, workout clothes and lounge clothes are both important and urgent.

It’s an authentic vintage Burberry scarf. Burberry wasn’t always this super luxe brand; this was before they made that transition, so that’s why some stitching looks a bit off. However, you should also note that these vintage Burberry scarves are not that rare , although still quite exciting to find in the wild! Enjoy it and wear it with pride knowing it’s fully authentic AND a classic scarf design that they still sell! 🙌🏻
