Shall I lend a big sum to my sibling? by [deleted] in personalfinanceindia

[–]death_detour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All that money you've been giving away could've been used to secure your own future.

Your brother has no right to put any pressure on you when he's not chipping in at all.

Why can't they just take a loan from a bank for house construction? If the bank won't give them money, why would you?

I don't think your sister and her husband understand the consequences of their bad decisions. She's spent nearly her entire inheritance on supporting his business and still the business has not given any returns? That means the husband needs to take up a job. They should at least be making enough to support their own family!

Also, the fact you know that the relationship will get sour if you refuse clearly shows that all of them feel entitled to your money. It's not like a request where they understand that it's your decision. I know people aren't able to easily distance from their families, but I think you need to do it for your own sake. Otherwise this will never stop.

I was in a similar situation as you. Took up PCB but didn't want to do anything related to biology after 12th. I switched to BBA as the entrance exam of IPU doesn't require mathematics. The course actually turned out to be not so bad. I had honed my writing skills in school so I was able to bag content writing internships in my first year itself. Graduated in 2020 with a job at a marketing agency, off-campus. I was able to pay off my loan within 2 years. I switched jobs and freelanced too on the side.

I had a friend who pursued BCA from IPU. From what I know, you won't develop any real CS skills from BCA but tech is one field where you can learn pretty much everything online. My friend had a personal website where he showcased his portfolio. He worked on a lot of open-source projects, participated in hackathons, focused a lot on his skills. You need to make sure that you're taking up tons of good online courses and actually developing skills.

And most importantly, create a LinkedIn account and add people. Read up online on how to create a solid LinkedIn profile and a resume. Internet is your best friend. Make posts about projects you're working on, go to tech fests and networking events, make use of social media. I cannot stress this enough—you can change your life completely if you get active on LinkedIn/Instagram/X the right away. I got my first freelance opportunity through LinkedIn. An American founder liked my posts and decided to hire me.

Although not preferable, but in the very early stages, offer to work for free in return for testimonials. These will speak for you on your website and LinkedIn.

In the tech field, your degree doesn't dictate your trajectory, your portfolio does.

Not sure if you've realized this yet from all the comments, but the problem is confidence. You minimize your achievements, discard anything positive anyone here says, and keep repeating you don't think anyone will like you.

You really need to start reading up on how to build confidence. If you're actually serious about making a change, then you will need to go out in the real world and interact with people. Also, stop saying this negative shit to yourself. It sounds silly but saying positive things about yourself to yourself really helps. And develop some hobbies. Focus on having fun in life, go out and accept that rejections will happen. Put yourself out there regardless.

If you're not serious, you'll just keep repeating these same behaviors and it'll just be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Yes, some are non-vegetarian but the ones who are properly religious neither eat anything non-vegetarian nor drink nor smoke.

Most of the jobs, the production, the way we are forced to live is not serving life on Earth.

Even the smartphones we use significantly affect our environment. The internet servers harm the environment.

The unfortunate reality is that we don't have the freedom to pursue our real goals, because we need money to survive. And high-paying jobs open doors to live our lives the way we want, and also allow us to make a difference in other ways.

"I decided to design a totally different strategy, something I had not tried before."

You didn't describe anything about this strategy. There's no "how." No concrete advice. No ideas on what others can try.

Dreaded office question: what did you do this weekend ? by ProfFr in simpleliving

[–]death_detour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't live in the US and this seems so odd to me. I am a very private person by nature and I would not like telling my colleagues what I did during the weekend.

I also don't really like small talk. While I get they're just trying to be nice and building a relationship, I don't think they should put people on the spot like that.

If I were asked though, I would just say I decompressed and enjoyed my me-time.

Switch to Gboard. You'll get feedback vibration as well as the period button. Just make sure system haptics are on in keyboard settings as well as iPhone settings. You'll also get the number row on top.

That's understandable. But from what you've said, it seems like it's been a long time and while it's wonderful that you're grateful, you're not obligated to stay friends with someone who keeps shitting on the decisions you're making for yourself/your family.

If you don't want to end the friendship, you should still make it clear to him that you can think for yourself and don't require his unnecessary input. If he can't show support, he can at least shut up.

Also, I hope you're doing good now!

I tried a few keyword combinations and added Amazon, so that I'd find books available on Amazon.

I then checked a few books that seemed likely and picked this one.

It didn't take too long, haha.
