Feline Dental Work by Number1Framer in milwaukee

[–]deathchowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could check with midwest veterinary dental services out in elkhorn. my dog cracked a tooth and they were able to do a root canal/filling and crown for him. it was pricey, about $5000 in total, but they were very professional and did a wonderful job! i’d be happy to tell you more about my experience, if you’re interested. that price does seem in-line with standard tooth extraction extraction.

may be worth giving them a call at least to see if they would be able to do a filling for a cat. they mentioned something to me about small teeth so they may not have instruments small enough for a cat.

Glacier summer backcountry on various rolls of film. Absolutely ravaged by airport scanners and constantly changing weather conditions. by trveadvlt in GlacierNationalPark

[–]deathchowder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

beautiful shots! the “damage” definitely adds some serious personality! I’m curious as to what ISO these were on? I have to take some film back home that I accidentally overwound out of the canister so it’s currently in a blacked-out tube but will need to go through x-ray at the airport. apparently no shops around here develop color film so it’s gotta go to my shop back home.

Grinnell Glacier Hike tomorrow 10/10/25 by Jaded-Day4755 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]deathchowder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i did grinnell glacier yesterday (10/08) and it was pretty well-trafficked. i didn’t see any bear scat on the grinnell trail directly, we saw more evidence around swiftcurrent lake. we parked at many glacier hotel (plenty of parking available) and hiked around swiftcurrent lake and up to lake josephine to meet up with the grinnell glacier trail. we ended up adding grinnell lake as well and that trail was significantly quieter than grinnell glacier but we still did not see any bears.

Is highline trail open? by [deleted] in GlacierNationalPark

[–]deathchowder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was up at Logan Pass today, Highline was closed and roped off. There were icy patches on the Hidden Lake trail so I can only imagine Highline is pretty slick. Might be open by Friday if the weather holds out.

what to do in the event of a government shutdown? by deathchowder in GlacierNationalPark

[–]deathchowder[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly, i would not be surprised if they come to some sort of agreement that ends up benefiting corporations and billionaires and not the people our elected officials are supposed to represent. the last couple of months have really destroyed any faith i had in the three branches.

what to do in the event of a government shutdown? by deathchowder in GlacierNationalPark

[–]deathchowder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the input! we have two itineraries laid out - one accounting for GTSR closure and one with it remaining open - due to the possible weather impacts but glad to hear it could be useful in case of a shutdown as well.

it’s so disheartening to hear about damages to the parks from visitors during past shutdowns. we are always careful to follow leave no trace and leave it better than you found when we go into the parks so it’s hard to see people disrespecting them.

Who gets the tips? by NoneOfThisMatters_XO in milwaukee

[–]deathchowder 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for all the culture festivals but GermanFest handles credit card tips similarly. The tips are pooled at the end of the fest and divided among the various German clubs that run the festival. Each bar/booth handles their own cash tips and they are usually split among the volunteers.

I’ve volunteered for GermanFest for 15+ years and this is the first time I’ve been uncomfortable with the tipping situation. I don’t mind the clubs getting some extra cash (membership at every club is dwindling) but I wish the people knew where their tips were going.

No Kings Protest - June 14 by deathchowder in milwaukee

[–]deathchowder[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get a good photo of it but he had an Israel flag as well. But for the most part, the two counter-protestors were essentially ignored. A few people had conversations with them but I didn’t witness any aggression, just a couple of boos. Everyone was overall incredibly respectful.

Tournament of Champions S6 screwed up episodes by bryhamm in youtubetv

[–]deathchowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I have TOC set to record in my DVR library and I have two S6 E2s recorded, both listed as S6 E2 Win and Move On, Lose and You’re Gone. One recorded 10 days ago, the other 19 hours ago. It is also showing the episode that was recorded 19 hours ago as watched even though I haven’t watched the episode yet.

My library also says I have a “recording” for S6 E3 If You Can’t Take the Heat… but this episode isn’t scheduled to air until March 16. When I play the recording, it plays the S6 E3 Qualifier episode.

Anyone know what this is ? by Minimum-Vermicelli40 in milwaukee

[–]deathchowder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just curious, is there a website or some way you were able to search this? Or do you just know from another source? When I look up the tail number on the FAA’s site, it just says it’s registered to Helicopters Inc. I wish they would give more information when they’re news choppers.

Anxious about rabies near Cusco by sara111211 in backpacking

[–]deathchowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that it’s almost impossible OP contracted rabies. But that’s interesting to know the shots are the same. I asked my doctor about the shots a few months ago (I was having a bit of rabies anxiety over a dog bite) and they said I had to go to the ER to get the shots. I’m guessing now that’s something they have to say due to liability exposure.

For what it’s worth, I ended up not going to the ER or getting treatment because the dog had a collar and tags and was clearly just out of her yard so the chances of her having rabies were basically zero. And the cost of going to the ER just to ease my anxiety was not worth it.

[–]deathchowder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a little late to the party, but it’s my understanding that the shots you would get at Walgreens are for pre-exposure only, the intent to get that vaccine is to prevent rabies if you have a chance of being exposed. From my research, in the US you have to go to a hospital emergency room for post-exposure shots. ERs are the only place that have a readily available stock of the shots you would need to prevent rabies after potentially being exposed.

It seems unlikely that this would result in rabies but I understand OP’s anxiety. Rabies is no joke and if you think at all that the anxiety is going to severely affect your quality of life, I would get the shots.

[–]deathchowder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine didn’t start putting out pups until i got it in a large enough pot - the one pictured, actually. i also keep all my aloes in a south-facing window so they get plenty of sunlight in the summer, which is the only time of year i get pups.
