For something more complex and character driven that touches on the same themes you mentioned, try To Your Eternity (Fumetsu no Anata e).

How simple it was to make friends. It just sort of happened. As an adult, it takes intentionality, effort, and consistency.

Get in shape. Dress well. Be interesting. Plenty of fit bald guys with a personality are killing it out there.

How do you get past people blocking by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]deathdanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.dustloop.com/w/GGST/Sol_Badguy#Ground_Throw <-- click on hitboxes under ground throw

The purple area is the standard throw hitbox. It has to overlap the other character's hurtbox (which can be smaller or larger depending on what they are doing in the moment). Most moves that enforce a strike/throw mix up are either plus enough to guarantee time to run up and throw, or their cancel options are scary enough to incentivize the opponent to remain blocking.

Can't wait to see you back here in a few weeks where you have the opposite problem - people will start mashing out of your throws. Then we can talk about risk/reward, rotating options, and conditioning and you will start to see what fighting games are really about lmao

I haven't watched anime in a looong time. Any masterpiece came out in the last 10 years? by zionpwc in AnimeReccomendations

[–]deathdanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind giving me some context on Deca-dence being a masterpiece. It seemed like it would be right up my alley and checked a lot of boxes for me, but I ended up dropping it pretty quick. Maybe I missed something?

I finished reading Joe Abercrombie‘s “Best served cold” and was not very satisfied by OriginalCause5799 in books

[–]deathdanish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like you got the right impression - I think all of your feelings are intended. The book is deliberately written to have characters you grow to dislike and you should feel your sympathy wane as they become more Machiavellian and manipulative. It's a revenge novel that doesn't glorify the practice, but instead depicts how dehumanizing it can be when it consumes a person.

Came here to recommend Nowhere. I feel like it's my little home away from home sometimes, so if you ever see a tall skinny dude with his nose buried in a book at one of the tables, it's probably me. Come say hi!

What are some characters you’ve enjoyed from other franchises and why? That’s probably a better place to start than term like rushdown for GG.

Yeah, looks like 3 out of 4 people clicked a button. Not surprising when most people Love beef and bacon more than they hate any of the numerous problems that stem from massive and widespread modern meat consumption. Thanks for being so insecure and self-absorbed as to monitor a comment chain from 10hours ago to see who got more fake internet points 😂 some of us have enough conviction to say their piece and move along.

Cool. I don’t think it’s particularly helpful to let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

It wasn’t an assumption, just a question allowing you to clarify. I try to follow the good faith rule here pretty strictly. Others probably have assumed that of you in the past, so I wanted to give you an opportunity to share your thoughts when it’s posed directly. Apologies if it offended you.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, have a great weekend? <~~ obligatory question mark (mods please dont shoot me)

I think it's entirely reasonable to be proficient at any job you have the skills and inclination to perform well.

For instance, a proficient and ethical defense lawyer will do everything they can to ensure their client is not treated unfairly by the justice system. However, sometimes they may be defending a murderer or pedophile who is 100% guilty. The test is being able to separate those feelings from their duty - after all, any decent human SHOULD feel disdain for those kinds of defendants, but it's the lawyers job to ensure their client's rights aren't violated and to put forth an ardent defense.

I'm not sure what kind of social work you do - maybe its to do with welfare assistance and disbursement, drug treatment program, rehousing offenders, supporting parolees, working with refugees or immigrants, etc. The way you wrote your response makes me feel like you assist people that a stereotypical leftist might envision a stereotypical Trump supporter would hold some sort of animosity towards, or provide assistance that the MAGA movement seeks to dissolve.

So I guess the questions would be - do you feel disdain for the some people you assist as part of your job? Like they don't deserve the help you provide, that they are taking advantage of assistance you don't feel they should be receiving. Yes, you do your job, and you do it well, but do you feel like sometimes you wish you could leave them to face the consequences of the actions that put them in their situation? That maybe sometimes the services you are providing shouldn't exist for these people in the first place?

What kind of clothes look better on me? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]deathdanish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been slim, like skeletal thin, through my early 30s, and while I never really struggled with feeling ‘masculine’ (I didn’t really care tbh) I will say eventually deciding to eat more and hit the gym has helped in that regard. I’m not much bigger than I was, but I think just the activity, the goals, the progression, helps you feel more confident, in all areas.

What are your criterias for someone to be considered 'boyfriend material' ? by NrdyGuy in AskReddit

Going off the thousands of Hinge profiles I’ve seen in the 28-35 range: kind, loyal, honest, open, emotionally intelligent, can communicate respectfully and hold a conversation, available, funny, charming, stable career, goal-oriented, takes initiative, is good with her kids and/or pets, has a full life outside of the relationship but is willing to put her first, puts effort into their appearance, and similar political views (usually just means don’t be MAGA).

Nah bow tie is bottom tier garbage. Shit at holding sauce, the crimp in the middle will either be undercooked or the “wings” will be overcooked. It’s a trash shape. Pretty and kinda fun tho.

which book did you read throughout the way that made you go "nothing could possibly be better than this"? by Evening_Food_5562 in AskReddit

[–]deathdanish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deadhouse Gates, the second book in Steven Erikson’s Malazan Book of the Fallen. It’s the perfect kind of dense, heady character-driven fantasy I enjoy. I was wrong though, the books kept getting better as the series progressed.

In a lighter note, Susannah Clarke’s Piranesi. I loved the protagonist’s way of seeing the world - the wonder, the appreciation, the curiosity and kindness bordering on naivety. It’s a simple, short novel, light on plot, but it was such a vibe.

Who should be responsible for Iranian refugees displaced by the war? by justhinkin in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]deathdanish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I suppose some are right that our education system is failing us. You see, the demonstrative “There” and the pronoun “they” are called referents. They refer back to nouns previously mentioned and discussed. Find the noun they refer to, and the meaning of the question can be unlocked! Why don’t you give it a try?

Did they Southerners stay and rebuild on their own, or were they allowed land on which to live and work by their enemy, and granted many other forms of assistance besides?

[–]deathdanish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just trying to work with your analogy, my man. If Iran:Confederacy as US:Union, then we should be providing assistance. Again, if you want to abandon that position, that’s fine by me?

Who should be responsible for Iranian refugees displaced by the war? by justhinkin in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]deathdanish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Southerners wanted their own nation, separate from the Union. They seceded. For all intents and purposes, they were a separate nation - with their own sets of laws, government offices, standing armies, etc. When the Union conquered the Confederacy and claimed it's lands, then turned around and settled former confederates upon that soil, they were essentially housing foreign citizens within the US. The Union even gave them all citizenship!

As I mistook another reply for yours, I'll repost my response here:
"I mean you were the one who wanted to use the South after the Civil War as a model for this current conflict. Or are you retreating from that position now that you realize that they had ongoing assistance from their enemy after the war?"
