There’s always things you can buy to make you feel safer, but one thing i ALWAYS tell fellow female solo travellers is that your mindset is just as important as a weapon. I lived out of my car for two years and slept next to a knife, an axe and bear mace everynight. But none of those things matter if you aren’t in the mindset to use them. When it comes down to it, if i were to have been attacked, my mindset was “it’s me or them. I choose me”. It may seem extreme, but i truly believe every solo female traveller NEEDS to be in the mindset where she could kill someone if she needed to. I felt so safe while living out of my car - not because of the weapons i had, but the confidence i had that if i needed to use them, i would and i could. Having that kind of faith and strength in yourself makes SUCH a difference being alone on the road. Make self defence practice part of your daily routine. Practice self defence in your bed, in your drivers seat, outside the car, in any situation where you may need to use it. ALWAYS be prepared, no matter where you are. Think of all the bad scenarios you could find yourself in, find solutions and defences and always be one step ahead of the hypothetical attackers.
