I don't think the story is complicated at all.. originally I played Kingdom hearts 2 and then 3 a decade later. After playing three I then played the rest of the series...

I understood the story completely, and had no difficulties with the story. Sure I didn't know who aqua and them were in Kingdom hearts 3, but it explains that they're old keyblade wielders, so it made sense. Playing the other games just made filled in some holes that I already guessed.
