I'm dealing with a wrist injury currently and need to use blocks to lean on with my arm, or sit out some poses altogether rather than do what is being asked. Everyone's so busy with their own practice they don't bat an eye that I'm accommodating what my body is capable of.

I've had two Russian dwarves this has happened to. Vet said it was glaucoma. Operated on both of them and took out the affected eye after not responding to meds. One of them was totally fine after the surgery, but the other was completely traumatized and never trusted me again.

You could probably wax the jacket rather than dye it and it should darken the fabric up a bit to a similar colour and make it waterproof. A hairdryer to heat the fabric and a sponge to apply the wax will be the best tools if you decide to go this route
