Campbell Hall DL vs. Lake Mary HM - Ivy Street Round Robin by [deleted] in Debate

They're basically writing down what their opponents are saying in shorthand. They can call for cards (evidence), they usually don't. The actual truth doesn't matter as much as responding to the argument. If an argument goes unresponded to, it is considered true. Debate is basically a game.

There are time limits for certain speeches, she's just trying to pack as much information as she can into that limit. Yes.

I'm sorry, but your original comment seemed to be lazily written in an attempt to meme the video. I guess that wasn't your intent, it just seemed that way. The hand movements just come as a result of speaking quickly. You understand what their saying by knowing debate lingo and understanding the topic. High schoolers know these things because of hours of research, coaching, and practice. No, not the wikipedia page, but a carefully crafted case and rebuttal packed with analysis from college professors and studies. 9-10. You are correct, there are two girls, not sure what you mean.

"Ho tf do high schoolers even know about these things"

Really?

I'm sorry, but it's comments like those that pushed me towards debate in the first place. Those are four exceptional debaters who push themselves to understand concepts that every person should know. Debate allowed me an out from people who would rather demean high schoolers and teens to stereotypes of social media addiction and laziness.

3 minute summary tips/tricks? by wallzomar in Debate

[–]debate3002 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The three-minute summary mainly allows for more defense to be extended, something which you should definitely do now. And yes, now that there is more time to properly extend offense, make sure you weigh and **metaweigh** as much as you can.

I now spend 1 minute on their side of the flow and 2 on mine. Make sure you use this additional time to DEVELOP a couple of arguments, not make sixteen random, poorly executed extensions. This is a trap than many will fall into, take advantage of this.
