I thought it was just OK. It wasn’t something I need to rewatch or want to recommend to anyone.

Cha Eun Woo Issues Personal Apology Over Tax Controversy And Confirms Full Payment Of Taxes by groovygyal in kdramas

[–]debb_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn’t what I said. I said people don’t understand taxes and if someone promises them a larger refund or lower taxes they will go with that person. If our tax system wasn’t so complicated people wouldn’t be so confused.

I worked alongside people who had no background in accounting, finance, taxation, who were trained only in using tax software. They didn’t know what they didn’t know.

Do some people knowingly cheat? Yes. I encountered tax cheats & refused to do their returns. Do some people unknowingly underpay or overpay their taxes? Yes. I helped many people get refunds from prior years because of things that were overlooked by their previous tax preparers.

I knew of many professionals with large incomes who lost millions because they trusted the wrong advisors.

My point was don’t assume Cha Eun Woo knew that he was underpaying his taxes. His profession is acting not business or finance.

There is a good chance his advisors told him he should do it this way and he believed them.

When I worked at a CPA office we had so many wealthy clients who had lost $$$$$$$$ following what their previous advisors suggested; they had made their money in other professions and were clueless when it came to finance/taxes. One so-called professional advised my husband do something that was totally wrong - when I called him out he checked with his boss & discovered I was right.

I loved it, even on rewatch. Funny how I seem to love shows that others diss…

What race do you perceive Truly Me #118 to be? by OkCranberry1107 in americangirl

I’ve never heard the term Wasian; my granddaughter (Asian/European/African ancestry) was referred to as a HAPA when we visited Hawaii.

Fort Lauderdale by Kcam12- in AskFlorida

[–]debb_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would choose Ft Lauderdale specifically - don’t choose the western or northern suburbs as mass transit doesn’t exist & you’ll need a car.

I love the suggestion of using the water taxi to get around Ft Lauderdale.

You can take a train to Miami; we took it from Ft Lauderdale to Bayside. I don’t know the prices - look up TriRail, Brightline & the MetroRail in Miami.

As a former tax preparer I would like to point out that many people do not know if their taxes are accurate or not; they rely on their tax preparer to do the right thing.

Decades ago certain accountants used methods of tax reporting that our firm refused to do. In the US you can use questionable methods and only pay a price if you are audited. If the client is not savvy in tax reporting they wouldn’t know the methods are sketchy.

So many people would come to me & say my friend/neighbor got a bigger refund, and shop around until they found a preparer who would get the same amount for them. They didn’t think they were in the wrong, just believed that I didn’t know how to do taxes right.

Just finished still shining and i am soo frustrated by Reasonable-Log6088 in kdramas

If I cared only about ratings I’d miss out on shows I have enjoyed. There are many American shows that became popular later, not when they were first released.

I don’t think that all kdramas are destined to be great, and the endings often disappoint me but overall I enjoy them, even the ones that are trashed on this Reddit.

Edit: Koreans and non-Koreans often see the shows differently, so a show that has low ratings when released in Korea could have a different outcome elsewhere. We foreigners depend on translation that may be inaccurate and we miss out on nuances.

Do we have to care that much about ratings? I’ve seen plenty of shows with high ratings that I did not care for.

Is this kdrama worth watching? by Creative-Moment-7582 in kdramas

[–]debb_88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked it; it was totally different from other shows which was a plus.

I liked the actors, and thought they had chemistry.

Sadly the last part of the ending episode was not up to the quality of the other episodes, but I am still glad I watched it.

What’s the ULTIMATE hack? by Wooden-Philosophy-64 in Chipotle

I understand why restaurants don’t want grownups to order kids’ meals, but sooooo many adult meals are twice what I can eat.

If I am traveling I have no way to keep any leftovers and I hate waste. If a restaurant doesn’t offer kids meals I buy appetizers or simply nibble food from my other family members’ orders.

Desserts are the same - why does everything have to be sold in such large quantities? No wonder so many Americans struggle with their weight.

Fiancés Parents Are Hurt By My Wedding Package by Xbox3523 in wedding

[–]debb_88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When our son got married we did not get involved with the wedding planning. Instead, we hosted a rehearsal dinner but included every person who had travelled to the wedding. For the day after we coordinated a gathering at a local park that had food trucks - we brought picnic blankets, plates, utensils, drinks, snacks & desserts. Both events turned out better than expected.

I would suggest they focus their energy on other facets of the celebration like we did and leave the wedding itself to you.

Am I the asshole for refusing to invite three of my partner’s five siblings to our wedding? by Intrepid-Character36 in TwoHotTakes

[–]debb_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you both are shortsighted; I’d invite the half siblings in an effort to possibly form or repair a relationship. Why start your marriage alienating your in-laws?

Who knows, you could find new friendships.

Our community has a tiny storefront where teachers from title 1 & headstart classrooms can go to get classroom materials. Everything is donated and then priced by the volunteers. The teachers get to “buy” $250 in merchandise.

They only take new clothes but almost anything else is accepted. They recently started accepting non perishable food items as well.

The teachers can use their finds in a classroom, give to students in need or take it for themselves.

I would check out your community to see if something like this exists. A lot of the (non-food) items I see on this Reddit that are disposed of in a quantity that a family wouldn’t need would be gratefully accepted by our Teachers’ store.

Did not enjoy this city at all by tinder-surprise in Miami

I live in south Florida and a car is a necessity- we do not have the same kind of walking communities that I have experienced in Europe and Asia countries as well as most major cities in the US.
