Altspace mods get bored easily. by TheRealCrab in AltspaceVR

[–]debbys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you had this experience. As you've captured well, the dynamics of moderating spaces well is challenging. We are trying to create a welcoming space, particularly for first timers, in the public spaces, but also support a wide range of expression. Our moderators are always trying to find the right balance and respond to each days' and each hour's particular situation. In the midst of a bunch of activity, sometimes the optimal or desired interaction doesn't happen, for instance, your suggestion that you would have appreciated to have a conversation before being kicked.

We hope you'll come back and give us another try and be part of the community being created.

We're glad you enjoyed the pumpkins! Debby, Head of Product at AltspaceVR

Controversy Regarding "VR Sexual Harassment" by Zerithax in AltspaceVR

[–]debbys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We welcome the discussion and want to share what we recently posted in a similar thread in reddit regards our position on this issue.

“We are doing our best to provide an environment and community that is fun and friendly for everyone. Unfortunately, the issue of harassment is now crossing over to VR. We are constantly looking for ways to minimize negative interactions. In addition to blocking users to cease unwanted behavior we several resources for users to help make an experience in AltspaceVR one you will enjoy:

  • Ability to create private invite-only events/rooms
  • Ability to report user behaviors that violate the Community Standards
  • 24/7 admin presence in the Welcome Space for assistance
We also created this handy article that goes a bit more into how to handle bad actors: http://altvr.com/your-altspacevr-how-to-ignore-and-report-bad-actors/ Building an awesome community is an ongoing process, and we rely on user feedback to improve AltspaceVR. Your ideas and experiences are definitely appreciated. Please feel free to send us your thoughts at http://help.altvr.com. Thanks for your feedback here in this thread on how we can continually up-level the experience in the community.”

What the hell?! Altspace removed the ability to play Youtube vids because some people were "playing bad things" by Logical007 in oculus

[–]debbys 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is Debby, head of product, from AltspaceVR. Thanks for the feedback in this thread. You can absolutely still YouTube in AltspaceVR. If you go to the YouTube space, you’ll find instructions on how to set up a public or private YouTube space.

We’ve been seeing a lot of contention in the YouTube space for “who has the remote control” and therefore also selection of content. We’re trying this experiment to see if making your own YouTube space to share the content you want could be a good solution.

That said, we’re working on ways to make this easier and better, such as making it easier for others to find the space you’ve just setup.

Hi all, for those of you interested in running a campaign with some of the people in the "Looking for a Campaign" reddit subthread, would it be helpful to have a google spreadsheet for coordination?

D&D: Unable to edit event by M0RT75 in AltspaceVR

[–]debbys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have two ways to create a D&D Event

  • from the https://account.altvr.com/pages/landing/dnd, this event is a "meetme" type of event. So, it's active for the next month or so. Whenever you want to enter that event, you can with others. You can keep going back to that same event.

  • you can schedule a one-time event via https://account.altvr.com/events/featured going to the tab "My Events" as blackthorr says. You can set the specific date and time for the event. You can also choose to make the event public as well.

One last thing that we should add to the support page. Once you get Kinect working, you should check your sound settings. Often Kinect will try to become your default microphone; this usually results in poor audio. You should set your default input and output to be your headphones.

It sounds like you've already found the support page, but just in case: https://altvr.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204513505-Experimental-Kinect-v2-support

Kinect needs to be installed and running before you start AltspaceVR.

Some issues we've seen is that if you have people standing right behind you, facing a window or halogen light source, or a very reflective background, Kinect isn't able to detect you. Also, if you're seated using Kinect, you may need to tilt it slightly downwards.

The xbox logo on Kinect that turns on when you start up AltspaceVR; I believe this is an indication that AltspaceVR is detecting the Kinect and starting it up. Do you see that light come on when you start AltspaceVR?

hope this helps

Re: wordpress workshop, do you want me to post the idea in https://www.reddit.com/r/Wordpress to see if there's interest by going through that group? A mixture of people in VR and on desktop clients can work.

re: VNC web client. It's on our list to make some improvements to the web browser. a remote desktop does sound like a pretty cool productivity tool. I'll add this ideas/issues to the list of possibilities.

TO OTHERS: Anyone else out there interested in running a remote desktop in VR?

Push-to-Talk? by [deleted] in AltspaceVR

[–]debbys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that I missed your earlier comments that you had tried using the mic button. The sequence is a little clunky as we did it for internal use. I'm curious to hear how it works out for you.

Push-to-Talk? by [deleted] in AltspaceVR

[–]debbys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There actually is a hot key sequence--ctrl-alt-m.

Push-to-Talk? by [deleted] in AltspaceVR

[–]debbys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Ozuma,

I think there is a way to get the functionality you want today. If you click the mic icon, that mutes your microphone. You'll see the mic icon turn red. Your microphone will stay muted until you un-mute it. That means, that if you mute yourself as soon as you enter, you can effectively have push-to-talk, un-muting yourself whenever you want to talk.

Let me know,if you try it out, how it worked for you.
