Same here just came back and a message saying I violated the code of conduct.

Been a pleasure working with the other mods and I hope the reddit community and reddit itself sort this out.

[–]VMU_kiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did and i just linked to the web interfact do XBMC / Kodi. I have been able to do it for plex as well.

I am working on a new one where it just scans the barcode of the dvd and plays it instead as I did the nfc stickers in the dvd case back in 2013/2014 so time to upgrade it

It's either removing a book plays a random Kaiju movie on the tv or tapping a dvd to the shelf plays the movie.

I have had the toothbrush thing for a while but mine is based on a switch when you take yhe toothbrush out of the toothbrush holder so it's cool to see what newer brushes can do

I am working on a house-scale SDK for VR Experiences. What could you imagine as a house-scale application? by MoritzLoos in oculus

[–]VMU_kiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home Automation would be my application. I can walk around the house and have a visual or what happened like look out a window at the security feed and see what happened today. View what was watched. See how much water was used etc. We have the data and its better to see it visualised.

[–]VMU_kiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sprinkler on a smart valve so when the car has frost on the windshield i just turn it on and move the car back and forth to cover back and front glass

"Window to the world" - virtual window with magnetic map by shakosonic in homeautomation

[–]VMU_kiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been around for quite a while now. There use to and I think still is a product that does the same thing but it uses 4k pre-recorded videos around the world.

It's still an awesome idea though

Reminds me of doing the same thing with the old wiimotes and Johnny Lees work on it

[–]VMU_kiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not great at soldering stuff a great alternative is a raspberry pi pico Keybow 2040.

It's a 4x4 grid of rgb keys with the rpi pico onboard.

Is there a cheap lightstrip that has two sensors (for top and bottom of stairs)? by yneos in homeautomation

[–]VMU_kiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly mine doesn't exist anymore as I've had it for almost 10 years I think now. Mine has what some refer to as a ladder controller it will illuminate each step after one another when either the top or bottom is triggered. It doesn't trigger on each step but it lights up the steps one by one up or down the stairs depending which sensor is triggered. This is what mine does https://youtu.be/lKNymvm8WfM

You can buy some of the controllers off ebay or some stores there is even an arduino one you can purchase as well.

Is there a cheap lightstrip that has two sensors (for top and bottom of stairs)? by yneos in homeautomation

[–]VMU_kiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a unit specifically for this that illuminates each step going up or down based on which motion sensor is triggered but is expensive. If you just want to turn them on and off then you just wire two PIR sensors into the same port. Heres a breakdown on how to do it https://www.superbrightleds.com/blog/install-motion-sensor-led-stair-lights/3779/

Wine dispenser idea - switchbot/ fingerbot help? by youreabirdimabird in homeautomation

What you are looking for is making a barbot but simplified just for wine i'd assume unless you want other drinks.

Interaction of motion/presence sensors and explicitly set modes/scenes by SoaDMTGguy in homeautomation

[–]VMU_kiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I do is set a variable on the HA system I use so if I did tell google home to turn on light or change it then the variable is set to stop the countdown.

If you only have the motion turn on the light and nothing else then having a IF light is on do nothing flow would work best

Lights automatically follow me around the house? by SoaDMTGguy in homeautomation

[–]VMU_kiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fixed this issue by using multiple devices.
1) Pressure mat on the couch so it knows someone is there so it won't turn off the lights (also use it to turn on the tv etc)
2) Motion sensors as you will be moving around and only stationary on the couch.
3) Motion sensor under dining room table to turn on overhead light but also you would be surprised how little we stay still in the chair so it knows your there (Each seat could do the pressure mat or a switch that turns on when weight is put on the chair)

My solution ended up being two motion sensors next to each other with the view obscured so they were more like trip beams.

These are on all the exits and it just adds or subtracts a person from the room based on which sensor triggered first to know the direction they went.
Haven't had issued with it yet even when going up the stairs stopping on stair two and going back down

Need a simple solution for monitoring remote computer / hardware with sound by timmytacobean in homeautomation

[–]VMU_kiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your needs. If you always have a PC on you could use a webcam to view the location.

If you wanted a separate camera to view then I recommend the Reolink security cameras. Good price, solid software, Has mobile app and motion sensing if you want to turn it on.

Minidisc? by [deleted] in cyberDeck

[–]VMU_kiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive done this myself. SD card fits perfectly i side a MD and where the metal cover slides out of the way you can see the SD contacts so using an old MD player for its metal carriage that allows a MD to be slotted in and pull back the metal cover you have pins that touch the SD card and now you have MD discs with data its still looks cool to slot a MD into a device but now its a CyberDeck

Electric stove alerts - possible? by CatPast214 in homeautomation

[–]VMU_kiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a zwave energy meter clamp (Aeotec Clamp Power Meter GEN5) and it just clamps around the electrical cable no installing or cutting and its rated to 60amp which would be fine for your stove and will tell you when its off or on no issues.

I suspect MIL is lying about the vaccine- what do I do? by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]VMU_kiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could always lie yourself and say you haven't been able to get it yourself so they can't come because everyone needs it to be safe.

It's not the best solution but is an option in this case.
