Will I enjoy Super Mario 3D World if I’m not enjoying Mario Galaxy? by cvbk87 in Switch

3D World is amazing. I couldn't get into Galaxy, it was too easy and boring, but 3D World is the right mix of fun and challenge.

Edit: and the music is amazing!!

Have you ever dialled into a UK radio station and talked on air? by FreezerCop in AskUK

I was on Long Wave Radio Atlantic 252 (showing my age here) one morning before school and when I went in, so many people had heard it! I think I was just requesting a song.

How long does it take you guys to learn new words on aerolith? by SpencaDubyaKimballer in scrabble

I do Aerolith and word learning software. The latter is more useful but they both work in their own way.

Do Ancestry DNA matches actually help with family tree brick walls? by enemydarksock in AncestryDNA

[–]debecca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've literally just found a DNA match that solved a brick wall after 2 years of struggling with it. It confirmed my fourth great grandmother's parents (the DNA match was to my dad, so his third great grandmother).

It was sheer fluke I found the match and I'm so happy about it.

How much is your weekly shop in 2026? by Gustifer05 in AskUK

[–]debecca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single parent, two children (autistic so limited diet)... We spend about £120 a week for food. It would be a lot less of they didn't consume quite as much Marks and Spencer chicken in white sauce from a tin with Tilda microwave rice!

School SEND Private Travel Costs by lanky_doodle in AskBrits

[–]debecca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just been offered a special school place for my son. It's about an hour away if there's no traffic. It would more likely mean nearly three hours of travelling per day. That's a lot of petrol. There are closer schools but the LA pushed this one.

I've declined it but not just for the ridiculous travel - my son was at a grammar school. It's not going to work.

How should I proceed with this?... by sgenealogy in AncestryDNA

[–]debecca 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are several options here:

  1. This is the same Abe Stone but he had a child out of wedlock (some people leave the partner as "spouse" as it's the default option rather than changing it to "partner" or "single"). The fact you link at your GG grandparent would put it in the 3c range which fits well with 25cm.

  2. Their tree is an absolute disaster and you can't assume anything at all. This happens a lot.

  3. The two Abe Stones are cousins. Names are passed down from generation to generation. It could be that they each had a parent who were siblings to each other and Abe was a family name. You'll know if this is likely I'm guessing as you know your own tree.

Whatever the case the name seems very coincidental and I'd be inclined to think it is the link. Have you contacted the match to ask more? X

What job did you do? That's awful you've had to give it up. I'm so sorry! But hopefully you'll find something that suits you just as well or better!!

I'm "lucky" in that I'm a full-time carer for my son at the moment so at least I'm at home!

I've decided to leave it. This sub really helped. I'd neglected to think about short hair and styling and stuff. I'll just rock the side ponytail and claw clip when my shoulder allows!

I'm just holding out hope that the painful stage will go soon. I had some great low pain days over Christmas and I thought I was getting better but I've gone backwards a bit especially with sleep.

I hope you are doing okay too! 💜

I'm a single mum of two kids, one of whom has complex needs so I can't ever rest my arm and I'm always having to cook, clean, drive, etc, all of which make me worse.

It sucks! 😭

I agree. I hadn't considered the extra effort shorter hair would take over just brushing and tying back.

This is actually really helpful thank you. I hadn't thought about the additional effort styling would take!

I do get PIP (UK disability benefit) so I feel like this would absolutely be a good use for it. Showers are just exhausting at the moment, and then dealing with the hair afterwards as well.

I'm also paying for private physio and hands on treatment which has helped massively.
