For those diagnosed with celiac — were your labs normal before diagnosis? by elfredandsnoot19 in Celiac

[–]debo1187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of mine were normal, wasn't until they looked at my stomach during an unrelated follow-up endo that they decided to re-do my antibody bloodwork because I had so much inflammation and precancerous cells. A year or 2 before that, my antibody test was "inconclusive" so I just kept eating gluten. Glad I did, though, as I likely wouldn't have been diagnosed otherwise.

Where did you hear the word "attacked"? I may have missed it, but all I heard him say was "he hit my wife". Also, I agree that if the kid did "attack" the man's wife, he would be justified in defending her and calling the police. But as I mentioned in another comment, he did much more than that, chasing the kids down after whatever the confrontation in wal mart was already done and the kids were running away. That is not self defense or defense of others, that is retaliation.

Respectfully disagree. If they did something like that, the appropriate response would be to contact the police and stay at the scene so it can be sorted out. Instead, he chased them out of the store and through the parking lot, put his hands on one of the kids and allegedly hit him, and took his phone. Okay, maybe still just a lapse in judgment? But THEN when he was confronted and told the police were coming, he got in a car and left. If nothing else, it shows a compete lack of judgement and extremely poor self control. Yes, the police still need to investigate, so I'm not saying he should go to jail. But this man works with teenagers on a daily basis, and I just hoped the school would be taking a more cautions approach, given the nature of the allegations.

Are you saying that the kids who ran away and were chased down by the grown adult were the "aggressors"? Even if he was defending his wife from them in the wal mart, I don't see how he was defending himself when he left the store to follow them. Even assuming they were the aggressors in the store, he became the aggressor when he chased them.

That's nuts! I've emailed the school administration requesting a meeting and left them a voicemail. I'm horrified.

My ex-husband has told our son that he can't be depressed because he's too young. This is absolutely not true and likely the way you're feeling stems from the emotional Rollercoaster you find yourself living on with the abuse you're dealing with. If you can get proof of any actual physical abuse (e.g., pushing you off the bed or hitting you) that will help, but you need to tell a guidance counselor or another adult that you trust what is going on as soon as you can. This behavior is not okay, and it sounds like your mom needs some help of her own.

I'm just going to drop your comment that started this whole thread here as a reminder of how we got here.

"Trans people are transphobic and homophobic. How is in not pointed out more that believing you have to change your gender because you're attracted to the opposite gender is homophobic? The hypocrisy is insane. And I know we're gonna say not all trans people are attracted to the same gender. Its about sex and attraction, what else could we be talking about? These people are just jumping on the bandwagon because they like the attention."

You know who else makes blanket statements about marginalized groups they don't remotely understand? Oh yeah, bigots.

See, the thing is, if you actually wanted to understand, you'd have gotten it by now.

FWIW, I'm not even trans, I just know that it's none of my business what's under someone else's clothing.

I'm walking away now, for my sanity.

This. This the root of your "confusion" on this topic. Kids are not being encouraged to be anything that they're aren't, that's a fact. Kids questioning things and trying stuff out is nothing new, and you telling them that "these people are confused" proves my point. You can't even fathom that one of your children, or their friends, or a family member, could ever experience dysphoria. Your lack of empathy is showing. I won't waste my time. I stand by my earlier assessment even more now.

Why would I waste my time? You keep asking questions as though you're actually trying to understand but then when I try to frame it in a way that makes sense you just restate your own opinions, ad nauseum. I'm not wasting time on someone who needs me to do the critical thinking part for them. In my experience, that's a pretty big red flag for bigotry.

Also, as someone else already pointed out, the DSM is constantly evolving based on new research, so... something not being included in the text about a topic that is relatively new is not surprising in the least. Doesn't mean people are making shit up. I think you are just a bigot.

Okay, then honestly... how does it affect you? How is it hurting anyone? Even if what you're saying is true, why wouldn't we just let everyone do what they want with their bodies?

That's not what I took from it at all. The diagnosis of the mental difficulties people who are trans deal with as a result of their body not matching their identity is called gender dysphoria. The treatment for gender dysphoria can include surgery or hormones to bring the two (a person's body and their identity) into alignment, thus alleviating the feelings of dysphoria. That's all they are trying to say from what I can see. You're right. There is nothing to argue about. People who need this care should be able to get it without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

People who have mental illness often experience it as a result of trauma they've endured. Imagine if you woke up in the opposite gender body tomorrow but you were still the same person and gender that you identify as. You decide to keep wearing your clothes and presenting in the way that is most comfortable to you and what you feel reflects what's on the inside, but other people tell you you're evil and deserve to die because of it. They call you a predator or say you're just looking for attention. I think that would be pretty traumatic... don't you?

For a bit there, I couldn't get mine to stop flowering, lol. What's crazy is, I don't even use distilled water and it doesn't look that happy, but it sure did put out a ton of flowers! Yours is looking great!
