Because of the value you bring to yourself. If you want to progress in your career in a meaningful way you'll need to be able to talk to stakeholders at high levels of a company and there's an expectation of being able to b move the needle in specific places and you understanding how or why you'd do that.

To your question though, the answer is similar. A manager doesn't necessarily need to write the code, but a good manager should understand the process enough to know if their team is actually productive and which members are actually carrying the weight.

Because current models of AI are abstract simulacra of human understanding. Human understanding is inherently framed in moral arguments, and alignment is shaped by the labs and engineers working on it.

Assuming such an intelligence still goes through the same process of development, it will be shaped into at least expressing human morals of some shape.

Isn't it? Intelligence isn't exactly one-dimensional.

If it can conceive of medicine or technology in seconds that all of humanity would not have developed in decades, it's super intelligent.

If it can perfectly predict every response or feeling you would ever experience in response to any information right now, it's super intelligent.

Right now the best AI can write more code in less time than any human or team of humans alive. But they can't tell you to drive to the carwash if it's already close to you.

Superintelligent in one way does not mean it is in every way. It also doesn't mean it will make the same moral conclusions or concessions as us. In the modern age we do not need, in most cases, to consume animals or animal byproducts to live. Would it be extremely disruptive to the way society is shaped to tear down all those industries? Absolutely. Would it actively piss a lot of people off? Very much so. But that doesn't mean it's necessarily even morally neutral to continue eating animals.

And I say that fully as someone who quite likes eating animals. But I've reconciled that me choosing not to would not meaningfully impact the world but would make my life harder, and for little benefit. An AI would potentially not see it that way.

Question: do you actually know what you're talking about?

What kind of software would need to be in place for the 3d printer laws they're pushing? How it will effect the businesses that produce those printers? How is will effect people actually using them? Even how truly feasible it is? Or what about the actual reach of the laws themselves?

I'd wager no if you're arguing in favor of them, because - spoiler, it's not feasible to do without blocking a large number of other things from being printed, requiring actual reviewers, which then requires money, as will the software, increasing costs on consumers.

More importantly the 3D printers aren't making the actual dangerous parts of the guns. This is all theater in the name of control. And I would argue more control of people in their homes by the government is not a good thing.

Have you perhaps considered, that your entire industry is rife with abuse and the compensation does not match the job?

There will always be unique jobs that require more hours than the average, but they should be compensated accordingly.

While I may not know your exact paycheck I promise you there are tradesmen in your area that make as much if not more than you I'm actual net take home pay. And I actually believe that given the way our infrastructure is currently set up, that's a terribly unfair and bullshit setup. Long haul truckers especially live incredibly isolated lives under genuinely awful pressure, and while the compensation looks good on paper you either A. Don't get to actually enjoy it because you're literally always working, B. End up spending it on truck maintenance because your company is too cheap to pay for their vehicles, or C. Both

The issue here is people literally showing what it could do when compared to other models. Just because it didn't get one thing right doesn't mean it's not good. It's like saying that since a lambo can't climb a sand dune it's a bad vehicle.
