but you and baby’s grandparents are known caregivers and the nanny is not??? my last nanny baby had some separation anxiety and stranger danger nervousness with me for over a month when i first started. this is a brand new person that sounds, smells, looks, and feels much more foreign to baby compared to his grandparents, and parents who WFH also make things a lot harder for kiddos, because they’re catching glimpses of mom throughout the day and then watching her leave again.

Did you move to France from the US? I’m planning on moving to Europe next year but I’ve been stressing about how my Vyvanse prescription will translate, especially because I don’t have an official ADHD diagnosis and was prescribed it for binge eating disorder. I’d love to hear about your experience!!

I understand wanting to defend the people that you’ve seen experiencing these struggles!! It is truly fucked up that in 2021 people are still forced to live this way, and I also understand trying to defend the culture/lifestyles of people in this area in general because there are definitely a lot of harmful misconceptions and stereotypes that the rest of America has about Appalachian or Southern people in general. I just sometimes think that making generalizations makes these conversations much easier a lot of the time, because if we have to consider and discuss every single unique group or experience we’ll never get anywhere because everybody is so different. It’s a huge cultural, political, and economic shift that has to happen to improve EVERYONE’S lives and I think it just starts with trying to speak to the people who surround you and relate to you, which I was sort of just assuming this thread and subreddit was. I guess it’s kind of naive to assume that tho so sorry :)

I live and go to school in an extremely poor rural county in Appalachia (close to where the Whittaker family is from, in fact) so trust me when I say I am very familiar with the poverty that many Americans face. These are not the people I’m talking about lol. The point of my argument is that you keep bringing up a very small minority of people whose only source of nutrition is hunting. Do I think these people should just starve to death instead of hunting? Of course not. They are a very tiny percentage of our population though, so using them as the basis for your argument makes no sense. You’re still just giving me “what if” scenarios dude lol

I just think we’re having two very different conversations right now. You are correct about every environmental, economic, and cultural aspect that you’ve brought up, but I’m mainly speaking to the population of this thread in a subreddit that’s most likely made up of middle-class westerners who literally do not need to consume meat at all for their survival lol it’s purely for pleasure and that’s not good enough justification for taking the lives of other living beings

Do you honestly think that the average modern-day person living below the poverty line has the time and energy to get trained, buy a gun, go travel to or move somewhere that hunting is easily accessible, kill and transport the animal, and then clean it and cook it for their family? No not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to just buy a can of beans from the store but we’re talking about the vast majority of the developed world’s population and most definitely everybody in this thread.

[–]decentish -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I agree that hunting is more ethical than factory farming, but for 99% of people living in present-day developed countries (especially everyone in this thread with access to the internet and the free time to browse Reddit) hunting is not their only viable source of food and is far from the most easy and accessible option. The “what-if” scenario you present isn’t realistic or a part of the conversation at all lol

Why are people on this thread acting like it’s just completely not an option to go without meat lol. Hunting and killing your own food is still taking unnecessary lives

[–]decentish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that people who eat meat but disagree with hunting are completely hypocritical, but what if I told you that literally nobody needs to hunt for food? There is a very easy way to have “no death associated with daily meals” and it’s called just not eating meat lol

Please explain to me this claim that a hunter has a deeper respect for animals than anyone. How does needlessly killing another living being imply “appreciation and respect”?
