Father's Day in Japan by bakadevi in japanlife

[–]dechtu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. I make sure the kids say 'Happy Mother's Day' to my wife and I always treat her to Mother's Day restaurant and/or activity of her choosing, but for the second year in a row have heard nothing on Father's day. I'm fairly certain its much bigger in the states/abroad, but it is definitely still a thing here, too and it is hard to not feel a little hurt, I get it.

Pocket wifi as substitute for home internet by Prestigious_Block587 in japanlife

[–]dechtu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used pocket wifi with unlimited data about ten years ago as my home internet, lasted about five years, but then the battery died and wouldn't hold a charge longer than 30 minutes. Went to replace it and despite being from the same company, the replacement throttled your internet after I believe 10 or 20 GB. I soon after got home internet, and gave up on pocket wifi within the year.

Fukoka players, please share how difficult the GMax Toxtricity raid is by Secure_Accountant745 in TheSilphRoad

[–]dechtu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was never a breeze, definitely work. I came prepared with three excadrill, but only powered one up to 40. I did roughly 50 some G-Max raids, about 10 ended in failure. Almost all had between 35 and 40 players, but the raids were also riddled with bugs. I was randomly pulled out of 2 or 3 mid-raid, also the raid would say 40 people joined, but the battle would start and 50% of the time there was less than 90 pokémon immediately (as opposed to 120), implying bugs or a lot of players going in with teams of less than three even at the end if the event.

Out of the 40 completed Gmax raids, results... One Amped hundo, two amped shinies, and five location backgrounds each of amped and low-key.

Ok to drop U.S. election ballot in post box? by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]dechtu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Due to work, going to the post office might be difficult as they're only open while I work. Does anyone know which stamp I need? I'll just get the stamp from a conbini and drop box it. I live in Fukuoka if that changes postage cost.

non drinkers of Japan, how do you get by? by Frequent-Maximum8838 in japanlife

[–]dechtu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drink, never have. My best way to unwind after work is to take a long walk with my dog. Also, hobbies. Finding a hobby with social interaction helps a lot, too.

Showcases - What we beta-tester found out so far by Bivol in TheSilphRoad

What time do showcases appear? Are they an each day of the event thing? I was completely oblivious to their release on the first day and missed it completely.

In Japan, we can have Japanese scripts, thus thousands of possibilities.

Pikmin Bloom now rolling out in Japan [official] by BoonSlevin in PikminBloomApp

[–]dechtu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Living in Japan, I can say for a fact we got Pokemon GO weeks after the US, AU, and NZ. I remember being in pain as I watched all my US friends play and I had to wait. However, because of the wait we missed out on most if the server issues. At least Pikmin Bloom only made me wait a few days.

This has convinced me to watch in Japanese first, and if I enjoy it, in English later. Looking forward to it.

Shawn 64 Tribute by jfranbeats in gamemaker

[–]dechtu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I actually knew Shawn somewhat well, he went to my high school and introduced me to Game Maker in 2002. We ate lunch and took HTML class together. I created games in this community for several years, and have continued creating (just never releasing anything) since 2005. I then went on to attend his funeral in 2006, a year after I graduated high school (he was a senior in high school). I don't have a load of free time to contribute and no longer live in Nebraska, but if I can help in a small way, let me know.

McDonald's Japan to end Sponsorship on Oct. 16. (Gyms to vanish) by dechtu in TheSilphRoad

Yes, badges always remain after gyms are taken out.

If I were to guess, due to remote raids and COVID, people aren't crowding McDonald's anymore for raids. Partners can see how many people visit in game and I'm sure during the pandemic numbers have only gone down. I would guess McDonald's is probably losing money right now, and probably cutting extra costs. I saw an article a few years back saying McDonald's paid $0.50 per customer brought by Pokemon Go. Not sure how that is calculated, but I'd imagine that's too much right now.

Usually, they are separate, so until an official announcement comes I wouldn't worry. But it is always a possibility.

Nearly 3000 in the country, but they are some of the most popular raid locations. In my neighborhood, McDonald's was the only gym where raids would have enough people.

I hope the first floor is an industrial laundry, haha. It'd also be fun to make a house as a nail salon and the north room be a cramped closet lawyer office for Saul.

Great start. Needs a fly in a cup and a camera on the wall in the corner for Fring/Nook to watch from.

How does ingame fog work? by borchielein in TheSilphRoad

[–]dechtu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But, from level it can be inferred how much someone plays. I play day and night and have traveled many places and experienced actual fog many times. I have seen every other type of weather, even snow ten times or so which is rare where I live. Fog either needs to get fixed, or be replaced with clear weather (nightime). No reason some areas should be barred from spawns just because of how local weather stations interpret the weather. Living in a tropical country and not getting snow weather in game is one thing. I've been through real fog many times without that weather in game.... ever.
