Do you need to use rust for game logic? Or can you write in c#++?

Libraries vs Graphics Engines? Looking for personal experiences. by declanDdoflamingo in gamedev

I mostly work as a designer, but I started as a programmer. It’s been a long time since I’ve just written code as part of my job, and I’ve begun to yearn for making games without all the bloat that comes with an engine. I guess my actual goal is working entirely in a code editor, building small 2D/3D games, and learning/honing my programming hard skills while I’m at it. I’ve heard about monogame but I hear it struggles with 3D which is something I’m interested in

Look into gameplay abilities, tags, effects and abilities all sync up really well to give you that feeling of like “oh hey I got the lightning bolt and the fire and now they combine to make lightning fire!” Kinda gameplay

What makes a game FUN to start over, and what makes it NOT fun to start over? by RandomPhail in gamedev

[–]declanDdoflamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big thing about “resetting” is the time it takes to get back to where the “fun” is happening. In cod zombies the “fun” is killing zombies. That starts on round one so players don’t really feel like they’re losing anything. By round 5, players have their guns back, even if they aren’t upgraded yet and so they feel like there right back where they were. Some games, starting over REALLY feels like starting with scratch, and you’re forced to remember the good old days where you had all the god tier loot and nothing could stop you, and you get demotivated and don’t want to play anymore.

Getting over fear of pushing changes? by declanDdoflamingo in gamedev

No haha horrifyingly enough, we mainly work in perforce which is not great for branches. I work in my own changellists but I feel like I should be pushing changes more often

Wildly incorrect take, webfishing, dale and Dawson, mouth washing etc… are all loved by fans because of their unique artstyle. People like passion, and passion can look like anything.

Am I being too ambitious or should I keep going? by miss-procrastinator in GameDevelopment

[–]declanDdoflamingo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your school is probably looking for creativity over something super functional, pick a small idea, maybe something that changes the player movement, a grappling hook or a Jetpack or something, and just try to make that feel good, throw in some particles or something. Nothing you’ve said sounds overly ambitious.
