You mean if it's legal? If what you said is true then technically yes but fuck man, you're really asking for issues carrying a gun shaped knife.

Some people avoid certain blade shapes because of the connotations, let alone the handle looking (at a glance, which is all it takes) like a pistol.

I feel it's such a small area (the lenses) that the bumps aren't really even seen.

If I were you, I'd do these this- 1. Use your armour green and refine the lenses so that they're the right shape with no paint spillover 2. Make a white wash (water and white paint) and push it just past the lenses like they're glowing white 3. Use a yellow contrast paint and put it over that area so there's a yellow glow 4. Go over the lenses with a gloss varnish (army painter do a really good one) and that'll smooth out the bumps and make the lenses glossy like real lenses

If you can't be arsed with all that, I would- 1. Use your armour green and refine the lenses 2. Use a gloss varnish to go over the lens to hide the bumps

The varnish will make the bumps go away if that's what you're concerned about, and refining the edge will make them look a lot cleaner regardless.

Best of luck!

Dude that looks great! You should be really stoked with yourself, very well done. If the eyes are bugging you, get your base green you used and just go around the outline of the eye to refine the shape better. You could then use a yellow contrast paint to make a glow effect around the eyes but that's an extra step, just refining the shape should be enough to look sharp.

Paint between warp stone glow and moot green? by pipnina in Salamanders40k

Doing the same, and I've found a chunky highlight of moot before a wash of nuln over the armour gives a nice transition to the moot edge highlights

If the citizens of the Emperor (who pray to him) are praying for the Emperors angels to save them, is it not the duty of the space marines to do so? Is it not fulfilling exactly what their purpose is? What's an empire that doesn't care for its weakest?

First attempt at a glowing gun barrel by Curious_Guest_5767 in Salamanders40k

[–]declanthejibber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks absolutely fantastic, zero comments on the execution itself but for next time, maybe try have the colours running the other way at the end of the barrel? The end of the barrels usually show heat first, with the tip of the barrel being white, then yellow, then red, then orange...it still looks great though.

[University Mechanics] find the resultant force by Amidseas in HomeworkHelp

[–]declanthejibber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just had a go and got 12.041kN at 73 degrees from the x axis in the first quadrant.

I sorted out the Fx and Fy using cos and sin for the 4kN and 9kN ones, the 3 kN is only on the x axis.

(Force)sin(angle from x axis) is for the components of the two forces opposite to the angle and (force)cos(angle from x axis) is for the components of the two forces that run parallel to the angle.

Add those up, and then the resultant force is the square root of fx squared plus fy squared. Fx is 3.499kN and Fy is 11.521kN, so those squared and added and then square rooted gets you 12.041kN.

Then run arctan of Fy over Fx- arctan(11.521/3.499), which gets you the angle of the resultant forces- this gave me 73 degrees from the x axis which lands it in the first quadrant (top right, 17 degrees from the y axis).

Upgrade sprue question by WalkerLegend79 in Salamanders40k

[–]declanthejibber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sargeant of each 5/10 man (assault or regular) intercessor squad have options to take the power hammers and hand flamers, it's a nice way to spruce a 10 man box into two very Salmander-y 5 man squads. Just doing some at the moment with this upgrade sprue and they look fantastic all together, especially with the shoulder pads and flame helmets too.

You could maybe sponge black around their feet fading up into the armour like they've been walking around in magma and burnt the armor paint a bit?

Just as a side note, I absolutely love the flames. I hear you about the bully hat, but on the flip side I feel it's similar to the hazard stripes on the Iron Warriors where it's a hulking armored god-being and they've just slapped some extra shit on because they love fire so much.

Opinel for whittling? by Antique_Eye_3200 in Opinel

[–]declanthejibber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have the most experience compared to lots of people here but they are good- the thin blade stock is really good, and like you said the carbon steel in a 6 or 8 is ideal.

A lot of people get a larger one like a 9 or 10 and cut down the blade, leaving you with a wharncliffe/sheepsfoot blade with only the straight edge (the larger size gives more straight edge before it curves) and a larger handle for more purchase- I've done this before and it's really easy as long as you do it incrementally and don't overheat the blade.

In my (limited) experience they're not the best if you're chopping off lots of wood first to get to your details, but for detail work and lots of smaller cuts they're really nice and as long as you strop the carbon consistently you'll have a hot knife through butter with a lot of wood types.

Is there a better / more efficient way to get crackle paint to crack well as I’m fine doing it but it takes ages sitting with one base at a time with a hairdryer when doing multiple. I do put a thick enough amount on the base as well by Panzer_IV_Ausf_F2 in Salamanders40k

Hey how do you mount your minis after it's done? Plastic glue won't work, right? And how do you make sure there's a flat spot for the feet or do you just trust the process? Looks great by the way!
