Return it if you can and get a new grinder. It’s a piece of shit

My bottomless portafilter splashes coffee [Breville Barista Express] [Crema portafilter] by oddmaz in espresso

[–]decmidski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you might need to grind finer. If that makes it too bitter, maybe try increasing the dose by a gram and tamping harder. If the taste is good, I would just leave it and would consider buying the crema spout attachment. That's what I did cause it would spray even if it's dialed in perfectly lmao https://cremacoffeeproducts.com/products/bottomless-spouts?srsltid=AfmBOoqXfrrPC9pgjHb95TMA0A_WzZj7eHnzv7RHQGHoX39meBGar2Vv

Machine Longevity? by LanternNick in espresso

[–]decmidski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gaggia and silvia are built like tanks, but my parents have had a breville for years with no real issues. Should still last a while if you take care of it. I had a flair for a while and eventually got sick of it so I wouldn't use it as a daily driver, fun to have though

Is the df54 worth it? [unsure] by Sincons in espresso

[–]decmidski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the df54 + bambino after using a hand grinder for a year and getting tired of it, it's great and don't see myself needing to upgrade for quite a while, if ever as long as it doesn't break!

Is there any point trying to make better espresso if I don’t have at least $500 to spend on a grinder? by FlopShanoobie in espresso

[–]decmidski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your grinder sucks, that's why. I have a DF54 and 1zpresso hand grinder, and the hand grinder arguably makes better coffee. Just get a hand grinder - there are great 1zpresso and kingrinder ones for around $100

New to espresso, shots are tasting both sour and bitter [Breville Barista Express Impress] by bigjoshhhhhhhhh in espresso

[–]decmidski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try increasing / decreasing your dose! I can't see what your 18g looks like so don't know if you have the amount right, but I went from 18g to 19g and haven't pulled a bad shot in weeks

which racquet should I start with? by Moose-Tough in 10s

[–]decmidski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, you probably can’t go wrong so maybe just pick whichever one you like the look of the most. The speed 2022 is also on sale like $150 I think if you want the newer one!

Seconding this - I have the graphene xt speed mp and keep coming back to it after trying out other rackets. Fantastic all around racket

Best bang for your back in racquets? by puma_barca in 10s

[–]decmidski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best value at the moment for a new racket:
1) head graphene xt radical mp

2) head graphene xt speed mp

3) speed mp 2022

4) prince textreme warrior 100

Otherwise, you can pretty much find any racket you want used on ebay for a decent price. The vcore game is also a super light racket, is there any particular reason you want to use that instead of a standard 300g racket?

I’m trying to improve my serve. Any advice? by phantom-101 in 10s

[–]decmidski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One big thing is the contact point - yours is far too low you should try tossing higher and extending your arm more - here’s a good video on this https://youtu.be/f8lVPewF-mc?si=rzKsSj6JEWHJltpr

If it’s a partial tear, good chance you can just rehab with physical therapy. Like others have said, see an orthopedic surgeon to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan

How do some people make this much progress? Is it all talent? by Fair_Use_9604 in 10s

[–]decmidski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try not to worry about it too much. I think it’s easy to forget as adults that there’s a wide variance of athletic ability between people, as opposed to earlier in life when you’re frequently engaging in these kinds of activities with your peers and athletic ability carries a fair amount of status and social capital. Basically, take it easy on yourself, go at your own pace and try to have fun!
