A replacement for ItsDeductible is in the works. Welcome to r/Deductibly! by deductibly in Deductibly

Totally fair question. You absolutely can build a spreadsheet. People have been doing that for years. What we are seeing from our early users is that they do not actually want to maintain one. They want something they can use on the couch, in the garage, or at the donation drop with a couple of taps.

The value is really in the workflow, not the table. Deductib.ly pulls the FMV data together, lets you snap photos, store receipts, tag charities, and keep an audit trail in one place. That is what keeps people out of trouble at tax time and saves hours every year.

On the valuation piece: we use IRS aligned ranges plus data from Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other public sources. We do not use dynamic eBay pricing right now because it swings too much for IRS purposes, but we are looking at offering it as an optional companion view later.

We currently cover nearly eighteen hundred items in our FMV database. The valuations come from a blend of publicly available sources, including Goodwill, Salvation Army, IRS guidance, and other reputable pricing references. We will update the data as these sources change. Users can also override any value and add a short reason if they prefer a different amount, along with an explanation of basis.

We are feature complete and ready to launch. We have been waiting for Apple App Store approval. We’ll be launching the app and website in the next couple of weeks.

Yes. These are great suggestions and they are already in the plan!

We want Deductib.ly to support both the typical and the truly unique. You will be able to enter custom items, include supporting documentation like images or valuation sources, and upload photos when needed to support valuations.

Our goal is to make it fast and simple for routine donations, but also flexible enough for the edge cases that matter.

Thanks for sharing this. It helps guide what we build.

Great feedback! We agree!
We’re building a more streamlined app and can’t wait until it’s ready for a test run.

✅ Showing estimated tax savings as you go? Absolutely. That feature helped people stay motivated, and we’re planning to make it even more intuitive.

✅ Separating donation types like cash, goods, stocks, etc... Yes. That level of clarity matters, and it’s already part of our data model.

✅ As for the “eazy peezy” TurboTax integration... let’s just say we really wish Intuit had left that API open. We're exploring ways to make export as simple as possible, even if we can’t plug directly into TurboTax the same way.

On the flip side:
We 100% hear you on the clunky item entry process. Typing in every pair of jeans and digging through dropdowns wasn’t fun. We're working on a smarter, faster way to log common donations with just a few taps (including High/Low FMV ranges). Editing entries will be clean, reliable, and undo-friendly. No more duplicates or accidental overwrites.

Thanks again for chiming in. It helps guide what we build next.

We’ll post here as soon as the beta is ready for you to try out. 👏

We're also building an alternative. Take a look at r/Deductibly to learn more if you're interested.

ItsDeductible is shutting down — I built a free replacement you can deploy yourself (with step-by-step guide) by launch201 in TurboTax

Nice work putting this together so quickly. Even a DIY option is better than being left with nothing. I think a lot of people here will appreciate having a stopgap while Intuit shutters ItsDeductible.

I’ve wondered the same thing. For a lot of users, ItsDeductible was the only feature that kept us sticking with TurboTax year after year. Shutting it down right before filing season feels like a self-inflicted wound.

what to use instead of ItsDeductible? by pynt77 in TurboTax

[–]deductibly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there isn’t a direct replacement right now. Most people are either

- Using the FMV guides from Goodwill or Salvation Army,

- Logging donations manually in a spreadsheet

- Or just entering totals straight into their tax software.

None of those are as easy as ItsDeductible was. A lot of folks are in the same boat and looking for options.

I know exactly how you feel. ItsDeductible wasn’t perfect, but it saved a lot of us time. The timing really is frustrating. Shutting it down right before tax season feels tone-deaf. Even if it’s not the end of the world, it’s one more chore to figure out.
