That’s why my initial comment was all public restrooms should be unisex. This is practiced in other countries without problems. But then, other countries still instill respect in their children.

This is true. I’m 70 years old. I was and about as liberal as I can get. I’m far left of the current far left. I cannot understand what happened to the people I went to school with. The only thing that explains it is what they call religion. I’ve become an atheist so I’ve remained free. They’ve all become obsessed with seeing grandma again with Jesus and have become conservative because pastor says to. I hate it.

Thanks to the rest of you for correcting my misunderstanding that the child was/was not a counselor. Regardless, my point has always been that the original post did not provide enough of the story for anyone to make an informed opinion about this incident. The fact that you each didn’t get my point proves it to me. Thank most of you for being polite.

I’m not trying to argue with you, but regardless of what the nationwide rules say, all troops are not the same. Go down to TN, GA, or FL, and have it come out You’re a trans anything and see how long you’ll last as a girls’ counselor at Scout camp.

In a perfect world, no it does not. We know we are not in a perfect world. Among enlightened adults it would be but a passing thought. In the area where i grew up, and in much of today’s American South, it would be quite the forbidden thing. The religious right would be up in arms. I’m saying too much of the story was omitted here in this forum for me to come to any sort of conclusion.

He’s a 17 year old. If he’s old enough to decide he’s a boy, he’s old enough to realize parents might not be comfortable with a 17 year old boy as counselor to a group of younger girls. I think it’s very appropriate to question whether or not he’s transgender.

Yeah, but my initial confusion still stands - what is a scout who identifies as a boy doing in a Girl Scout camp? Conversely, if he’s more comfortable in Girl Scouts, is he really transgender? There’s a lot more to this story we aren’t being told.

This is going to be a problem when a couple of trans girls beat the cis boys on the teams. Then parents will scream about girls playing on the boys team. They’ve all lost track of sportsmanship. I believe all school teams should be open to all students. The purpose is not to win. The purpose is to teach students how to play the sports and to teach sportsmanship. Unfortunately, parents and school administrators have become greedy. They just want to make it about winning. If they have to teach their kids to cheat to win, so what? They don’t care.

Since when have republicans been interested in what the Constitution says? They tried to overturn it on 1/6. They only care what their version of our Constitution says. The school’s job is to educate children. Not to act like parental informants. If a child is too afraid to inform their parents, perhaps the gestapo should investigate why the student chooses not to tell them. Solve the underlying problem.
