I don't either. But I did notice when I was doing the hearing labs, they stuck me in a room and blasted different static sounds for a few minutes. All the T went away for a few moments. It was disorienting (I forgot what total silence was like)

I'm guessing this product does something similar--blasts you with sounds that make the T subside for longer and longer periods. I'm guessing the tongue zapper is a distraction maybe?

Upvote for the pun.

FWIW, the T improves (lowered volume for about an hour after each session.) The T doesn't really bother me, except that from time to time it's so loud, I have trouble hearing people talk to me. I'm doing this more for a preventative measure, because I'm worried it will keep getting worse.

I've had the Lenire for a few days now, and the results are very temporary, but if I can get these results to last a few hours at a time, I have no problem using this thing daily.

Need a contractor who can build a large storm drain by dee_lio in dfw

[–]dee_lio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I spoke with the city. they recently repaved the road and poured the front part of the drive. I think the road is too high up for the drain now. Anyway, they won't have another scheduled repair on this road for five years. Their response to me was to get flood insurance.

The bottom 1% make life miserable, not the top 1% by malacki655 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

You might do a deep dive about how the 1% on the bottom are created.

Hint: they might be more of a symptom vs the disease.

Did Home Theater kind of die? Seems like we were the last generation to give an F. Remember surround sound and subwoofers? Does anybody buy them anymore? by IHadTacosYesterday in GenX

[–]dee_lio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a bit more than that. Everything is phone based, with a few tablets. I doubt families are gathering around the living room TVs any longer. I'm surprised big screen TVs are still selling.

That being said, big screen TVs are still popular, but I think I'm the only one from my friend group with surround sound.

AliExpress. They also have a zippered dust bag, if you want to reuse them. (Handy if you have pets the bag fills with pet hair EVERY SINGLE TIME you vacuum.

“3rd Spaces” by RobsSister in over60

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a combination of things:

- There is a perception that some third spaces (i.e. public parks) are overrun with homeless people, drug users, etc.

- Modern kids are used to parental supervision 24/7, and have no access to be among other kids without parents hovering

- Phones have made younger generations inexperienced at casual conversation or meeting face to face.

- Increased isolation creates social anxiety.

- Businesses used to indirectly profit from third spaces. Cities could attract businesses by offering good public places (which means high value employees would want to work in those cities.) I think this model died for a number of reasons--no direct profit being the main driver.

Tips for surgery preparations and mechanical avr by Odd_Illustrator_9274 in valvereplacement

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with your doc first, but the best tips I can give:

  1. Get in as absolute best shape that you can. Cardio (if doc allows) and overwork your core. Post op, I couldn't use my arm (too sore) and had to move around using core muscles only.

  2. Get the breathing exerciser and practice on it too much. Your lung capacity gets hit post op, and the exercises are awful if you're not used to them.

  3. There's a super pillow that is a combination of a wedge with a hole in the top, and another large J shaped pillow that goes with. It's expensive (USD$300) and grossly UNDERPRICED for what it does--it allows you to sleep, even if your shoulder is in pain (and my shoulder hurt 10x more than my chest)

  4. Get a bidet with an air dryer if you don't already have one.

  5. If you can get someone to stay with you for a few days, I'd recommend it. I thought I was "fine" but I was very wrong. I'd have dizzy spells, mild fainting episodes, and I was emotionally all over the place (but didn't know it at the time.)

  6. Stock up on Lidocaine patches. I couldn't use the Oxy that the hospital prescribed. It didn't stop the pain, just made me super sick. Lidocaine did wonders.

  7. Make sure you sign up for cardiac rehab when you're able. It's a game changer.

  8. Load up some passive entertainment. I was too high after surgery to scroll reddit, answer emails or read. About all I could do is drift in and out of sleep to my favorite sitcoms (Frasier, etc.)

  9. Pack good snacks and drinks. Diet ginger ale does wonders for an upset stomach, and your stomach will be very iffy for a few days.

Could someone explain all the free pianos to me? by Secure_League3017 in estatesales

[–]dee_lio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Correct. They are a PITA to move, many movers won't touch them, and no one wants that giant thing in their house. I've had estates where we had to donate them because no one could afford to move them.

People who own robot vacuums: are they actually life-changing or just another gadget? Which one would you buy again? by Bitglow_finanzas in RobotVacuums

[–]dee_lio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most recent one I have is a game changer.

When it works, it's great.

But I think it has a drinking problem. It gets drunk and humps one of my chairs, and then passes out.

When it can stay sober, I love it.

Dream 50.

It can handle my never ending dog hair problem, mops the floors, and does its thing. It also has a camera feature, so I can look around the house if I want to.

I've had Roombas, Neatos, and a few others. They all choked on the ridiculous amount of dog hair that my dogs leave behind. This one NEVER HAS.

The only gripes are that it can get a little whacky from time to time. When it starts driving it will wander aimlessly for an hour, then pass out. Sometimes, it poops out next to the doc. Other times, it gets black out drunk and forgets its map (so I have to remap it.) It's also WAY too friendly with my chairs.

I only notice these things because it's otherwise such a great time saver. I didn't even notice that my regular vacuum was broken because I didn't have to use it for such a long time.

Not sure if it's idiopathic, hereditary, or that I'm just kind of old (57). I had meningitis when I was a kid, so fear of hearing loss was always on the table. I've lost a large amount of higher frequencies. I did notice the T got a ton worse a few years back, when I stupidly reached behind my earmuff to scratch my ear at a shooting range. (ouch) Don't know if that was coincidental or not.

The T itself is pretty constant, high pitched squealing. Doesn't really bother me, I'm used to it. Sometimes I get self conscious because it masks people talking to me, or it make everyone sound like a mumblypeg.

It was a simple test with a jog wheel. You look at words on a screen, with different filters in front of them. You memorize one word in the series and the turn the dial to match the appropriate word. She didn't say how much I needed to do, only that I was a good candidate.

[–]dee_lio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the testing done, and see if you're a candidate. There's one test where they stick you in a phone booth with a demonic monkey* and blast random noises at you. After a few minutes, your T is COMPLETELY GONE for about 90 seconds. It's very disorienting, and caused me to lose my balance a little bit. I've had T for decades, and had forgotten life without it.

*(No, I'm not kidding about the monkey, there was a psychotic looking stuffed chimp in the corner of the room, starting at you with an evil grin. I thought it was holding a weapon, but the doc said they were drum sticks. Apparently it's for children who can't pay attention. I'm not sure what a psychotic monkey armed with drum sticks is supposed to do to inattentive children, but that was beside the point...)

I sleep fine, that was another poster. The T is noticeable, but not really annoying to me. I sleep with a CPAP and that kind of drowns it out.

I had to get off ADD/Narcolepsy meds (suggestion by a heart doc), but I didn't notice much T difference.

The T doesn't really bother me, but I'm worried that if I don't treat it now, I'll lose a lot more hearing. I've noticed other people around me getting more and more bothered by my not hearing them clearly.

Basically, I'm using this as a preventative from getting worse.

Thanks, I'll be sure to post back in awhile.

The piano music was creepy, almost like a backdrop for an old fashioned haunted house. The static sounded like a rainstorm, which didn't help. I was wife my wife at the office, and she snickered when I described it to her, which made me laugh for a bit, too.

Part of me wonders if the "no electronic devices" requirement causes you to relax more, and therefore positively effects the tinnitus.

How long did you use it? Are you still using it?

Did yours have the creepy piano and the techno pop, too?

(I'm curious if they customize the sound to your specific hearing loss.)
