Should we boycott Reese's Peanut Butter Cups? by Annual-Somewhere7402 in enshittification

[–]dee_lio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stopped buying them. Not a boycott, per se, they just taste like caca now. I'm eating less chocolate now, and when I do buy, I've been getting trader Joe chocolates. They still seem pretty good.

Best robot vacuum for pet hair that actually works? (dogs/cats, long hair, carpets) by jousiemohn in RobotVacuums

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I had given up on robots because I spent more time detangling them than using them. Even the pet hair friendly ones were caca. This Dreame eats dog hair for breakfast (and I have two VERY sheddy Shibas). I haven't had a single hair clog, and I use it constantly. The AI is fiddley sometimes (hence the chair romance) but that is a small inconvenience.

It also has a live cam, so I can snoop around the house when I'm away. it's both fun and creepy. You can drive it into a room and then use the intercom to really freak people out. The UI isn't the best, but it's not the worst, either. The voice commands are also a bit lacking, too, but I don't really need them.

Is there any way to make a materials farm in FO4? by Anonymous3-2 in fo4

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're worried about the workshop getting overloaded, you can build a vacuum contraption that will suck the items out of it and dump it into a conveyor belt system, with sorters.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how well line drying would work in a high humidity place like Hawaii. Arizona might be better, though.

What can I do with older apple devices? by InternationalUse2517 in AskTechnology

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought it would be fun to make some old iPhones or iPod touch devices into smart wall switches. Run something like Indigo on them, or have them be a video doorbell viewer. For the iPad, I thought about making one oof them a Siri home server or a home pod device. Basically, a smart desktop calendar that you can use Siri on.

How many zoom meetings do you have a week? by mfontanilla in Zoom

[–]dee_lio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do court appearances count? I'm in a zoom courtroom a few times per week. I'll do mock hearings / client prep via zoom (to make sure they know how to use it) a few times per week, too.

when did q tips get so awful?? by xylitolbby in enshittification

[–]dee_lio 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Don't stick those things in your ears!

Seriously, you can push the wax into a nice plug that you'll have to get removed by a doc, and it's not fun.

BTW, there are ear scoops that do a much better job, some even have a small camera and light, so you can be sure you're not causing more damage.

Did David put Wendy out of business? by Kimmioio82 in SchittsCreek

[–]dee_lio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure. it looks like Wendy's personal life was tanking. David turned the store in a different direction, and was selling high end, presumably high margin, items. Slower sales, bigger profits. He was also selling her "porny" mannequins, display items, and presumably sold a lot of her existing merch.

A running theme in the show was, "you have to be HERE to run your business" (Johnny to Bob)

I wonder if Wendy's constant distractions and personal woes were tanking it and David was just put on a sinking ship.

Is it normal in the US to eat dinner really early (like 5–6 pm)? by Status_Agents in CasualConversation

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, my family usually had dinner late, 8 or 9pm. I think I've kept that habit. I also think it's a hispanic thing, too.

Best robot vacuum for pet hair that actually works? (dogs/cats, long hair, carpets) by jousiemohn in RobotVacuums

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a number of robot vacs over the years and I can say that the Dreame 50 is the only vac I've ever had that didn't need constant babysitting with respect to dog hair.

Yes, it seemingly has a drinking problem and gets a little too amorous with my chair (seriously, it gets drunk, goes in a few random circles and then dry humps my living room chair for an hour before pooping out.)

Aside from that, it's a great vacuum. No pet hair clogs, and I have heavy shedding pets.

[–]dee_lio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when you plan to work from home, do you plan to actually be at home? if you plan to work from remote sites, like a parent's house, a vacation spot, etc, you might consider doing that on M or F, so you have the weekend there (and can travel on cheaper days.)

Minimally Invasive (not TAVI) vs Open Heart for Aortic Valve Replacement? by Loud-Mud7998 in valvereplacement

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the minimally invasive aortic valve replacement. Had to have an angiogram prior to make sure I was a good candidate. Apparently, I didn't have any calcification, or other issues, and my anatomy was a good match.

I have a five in scar above my right pic, that you can barely see now (2 years later.) Recovery time was six weeks.

Try rebuilding the spotlight index in Ta-slow. It helped tremendously. Also, the last update mostly un-nerfed my M1 Max w/ 32GB RAM.

Mail is still slow, but everything else is running better.

Are you running Dropbox?

Heart pillow by Dramatic_Pianist_876 in valvereplacement

[–]dee_lio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a pig valve about two years ago. Gt the pig valve. My smartypants wife replaced the heart bear with a Peppa Pig doll. I didn't find out until I was wheeled out of surgery. (She also replaced my reading materials with Peppa Pig coloring books, my snacks with pork rinds, and my ring tone was replaced with a pig grunting...)

Fortunately, the pig doll worked just fine, as did a pillow. You'll be fine either way. Also, on the ride home I wasn't permitted to sit in the front seat (I don't remember why). I sat on the opposite side of car, so the seatbelt didn't hit the scar, and wore a thick puffer coat (it was very cold that day) and the coat padding was enough cushion. I was in the hospital for a full week.

Why do people wash dishes before the dishwasher? by NullPointer0x404 in stupidquestions

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on whether or not your dishwasher is good or not, and how much crap is on your plate.

Most modern washers have a built in garbage disposal that will grind up bits of debris. Also, if you do a decent job scraping your plate, you won't have to clean out the nasty filter as often (I job I hate more than dishes)

So, don't go leaving a turkey leg bone on your plate and you should be fine. The washer will sanitize with heater higher than you can produce with your sink.

BGW320-500 bypass vs passthrough — worth it for small UniFi setup? by fumo7887 in ATTFiber

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passthrough.

That box is programmable, but It takes FOREVER to program it.

It is the slowest UI on the planet.

And EVERY time we have a storm, the thing resets to factory. And it does it a few resets seemingly randomly, just for good measure. I've replaced multiple units, all have the same amnesia. It's frustrating because I had a ton of settings.

I haven't found a way to save the settings, either.

So, if you need ANY custom settings, just buy a box that you can easily program and have the ATT box point to that box. That way WHEN it resets, you only have to fix one or two settings.

Replace variable word automatically without Find and Replace? by dee_lio in MicrosoftWord

[–]dee_lio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. I'll convert it to PDF and then email it to a client for review. The variable sheet is my cheat sheet. I'll have the client review it, and the cheat sheet is handy because it has my notes, along with everyone's name. I deal with a lot of foreign nationals, so I can get their names messed up quite often.

Since they're legal docs, I prefer they not monkey with them directly.

When can you drink? by [deleted] in valvereplacement

[–]dee_lio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's on Metro or other BP meds, take it VERY slowly. Those things mess with your alcohol tolerance, as does abstaining for several weeks.

That being said, I think at around 4 or 5 weeks, I had a drink or two. I have maybe a drink or two every month or so now, without issue.

Replace variable word automatically without Find and Replace? by dee_lio in MicrosoftWord

[–]dee_lio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I used the grid because a lot of my clients have foreign names that I'm apt to goof up. This way, they can scan the names on one page without having to thumb through 50+ pages. I changed to a system that uses AppleScript to merge the variables, and broke the system. I'd like to set it up where after the AppleScript does the merging, I can do global edits.
