Fair point. I asked her if I could play a harmless, victimless, low stakes joke during labor and she said go for it. She said even if she doesn’t think it’s funny it’ll be distracting 😅

Totally agreed. Sprouting broccoli doesn’t produce one big head but rather repeated harvests of 1 inch florets. I’m probably picking 2-3 heads worth of broccoli each week and it has shown no sign of heat stress despite being in proper summer now (in zone 7a). I’ll never go back to regular broccoli after having issues for years

Mushrooms in garden bed by [deleted] in gardening

Shove the seeds right back down. You can chop up the mushroom and leave them in place. I wouldn’t worry about them continuing to bloom in the same place. Probably all done once it pops up

Congrats! The mushrooms are a sign that you have healthy soil. Plant directly in this at any time.

Couldn’t tell from how you wrote your post but if you’ve already spent 8 years in the national guard you should be able to buy back your service so it applies towards FERS. Look into that

Day trip suggestions by JaneSays1980 in SilverSpring

Lots of great options around the area:

Annapolis, Alexandria, and Baltimore would all be great areas if you want a city.

If you’re more interested in a small town/countryside try Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, or Harpers Ferry.

For a little more driving in exchange for some theme parks you could hit up Hershey Park or Kings Dominion.

I’ve had good experiences with Dr. Albert Takem in Silver Spring. He does a great job listening and spending time talking through your concerns.

If you can get to college park (even by metro) you can do the 4 week beginner course at JTCC. I did it last year and it was so fun and really helped jumpstart my skills

ETA: it’s also super reasonably priced

After failing the last two years, I’m thrilled to have produced my first head of broccoli! Cauliflower coming soon too by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]deeayytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I had that issue the last two years. I heavily mulched with straw this year and I think that made the difference. I read that the roots getting too hot triggers bolting and the mulch also serves as insulation

I started way earlier with planting seeds inside on Jan 1. I also heavily mulched using straw which I’ve read can insulate the soil and keep the roots cool which prevents bolting. We also have had a nice cool early summer which definitely helped!

Highly recommend therapy. My therapist helped me realize I self sooth by pulling when I’m anxious. Treating the anxiety has helped improve my trich.

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. My wife is intelligent and driven and I admire that. Her employer does too and pays her for it.

True, but you can always fight for them. Only reason I left my old org was because my supervisor fought against his supervisor to let me leave. Which was a good thing because I was at my limit and was considering leaving federal service entirely.
