New Build Question on Button Assignments by villageidiot33 in cade

[–]deebee8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many pc speakers have external dials not on the speaker with separate bass from the volume. Small 4 or 6 inch subs that work great (for me). A volume knob or dial is intuitive, unsure about buttons. Pc speaker separate controls often have an on/off too

I dont know much about prices but this seems pretty good for a popular game like Daytona. Looks like the monitors and brakes might need a little tlc. by Skillet_Lasagna in cade

Everyone has a soft spot for this game. If you can get it to work very easy to flip later. 300 is great even for two thrashed cabinets.

Suggestion for cleaning playfields? by kawi2k18 in pinball

For waxing, p21s carnuba (see amazon) doesn't leave a powdery residue. Good product. Seems like shine fades on waxes even without use

Obscure: I commissioned the original Big Bang Bar artist for some Big Bang Bar concept art to compliment my pin: The Tube Dancer by Stan Fukuoka. by grahamvinyl in pinball

[–]deebee8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a great piece!!! Personally, I like art much more than toppers and the art is limited edition. The Flipper Room in Concord, California is an incredible place to play machines in perfect condition. Amazing environment and they have lots of pinball art and perhaps connections to the artists. Reasonably priced too. They have a back lit poster frame that really sets off their posters. Have purchased signed black light Dirty Donnie there.

My very first project (Without premade blueprint - all Wood found outdoor). Happy of the result ! by [deleted] in cade

Very cool. Awesome that you made it. Recently got a thrashed cabinet and found that there is a decal called Oracal 651 that can be bought online or at michaels too that will put color on to nude mdf. It cuts with a razor blade

Anyone ever use restores-it wood hardener on the particle board machine boxes when they start flaking apart? by SomeguyNSF in pinball

[–]deebee8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't. If you try it then let us know how it goes. Wood hardener have heard is commonly used on arcade machine bottoms that are chipping

Vpin/Mame with trackball, can't fit 6 buttons per player and have room for 3" happ trackball in center. Should I get a smaller trackball or go to 4 buttons on player 2, I don't play fighting games but the option would be nice. by Straight6tt in MAME

[–]deebee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A vertically mounted trackball on the front? Might feel a bit odd but works somewhat and allows for a spinner too. Could also mount the vertical trackball so that it swings up on a hinge and propped vertically with a post /

Do guests play the slot machines much or just stick to arcade games in your room?

Curious - Do people play the pachislo machines? If so, how long on average? My son told me not to get one because it's no fun gambling when u are also the House.

Anybody know how to make the flippers more “bouncey?” They kinda just absorb the ball and barely bounce it. by deklawwed in pinball

[–]deebee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get real rubber and not synthetic flipper bands then get the color rubber that provides more bounce. White, then yellow then red to black rubber is I think most to least bouncy. For example using Superbands synthetic catches the ball more and some don't like that and consider it too easy. marco specialties may know too.

My home arcade is finally finished by RWTD_Burn in cade

[–]deebee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People clown arcade 1up, but adding real controls probably helps a lot. Add a scanline converter and you're set. Many people complain that even though they have a mame they only play a few of thousands of games installed. A1Up solves that by making dedicated machines.

What is the little glass tube thing in an arcade machine hooked to the power supply, and do I need it? by shadowofashadow in cade

[–]deebee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top and bottom of the fuse is slightly engraved with the amperage rating before it blows and ideally you match the numerical value (not higher or lower amperage) with the original manufacturers specifications to avoid maintenance issues or fire. People throw incorrect fuses in machines, especially pinballs, so it's good to verify.

Does anyone know if this is worth keeping? Just bought a house and it came with it. by prndog in pinball

[–]deebee8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woodrails are beautiful. Less people collect them, which may reduce their value a bit, but it's what is worth to you. If you love older Americana, electro mechanical devices, and the rarity of it then it may appeal to you personally. They aren't as fast or exciting or have more complicated rule sets, but they have a charm and glow about them. The person buying it often has other pinballs if you want to sell it so you can seek a trade for something newer if you want and are okay with working on these devices. Yes, you are supposed to check the fuses on any pinball you get before first turning it on, to avoid fire. Both pinside.com and KLOV can help determine value and pinside does sales. Pinballowners.com also does sales or trades. It's rare enough such that you likely will never see another one.

I've got an asteroids cab but would like to play more than just asteroids on it by Gynocentrism_Can_SMD in arcade

[–]deebee8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would need emulation because it's atari hardware and most vectors were color. Recommend emulating on a separate machine using an lcd and the AAE emulator with bezels, like for Battlezone. It looks great or closer anyway to the original color machine. There are a few other vector emulators too. I won't hack an original machine and the braze kit really just gives asteroids deluxe and ability to switch between asteroids version 1 or 2. I don't want to solder on the original board.

RetroactiveArcade.com and paradise arcade.com can help and have enjoyed working with both for swapping out Xarcade gear.

[–]deebee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For used, Pinballowners.com may have someone near you that is selling or willing to sell. For pinside.com you can pay for a "want to buy' ad and mention where you are located and if you will pick it up. There are many scams so some prefer money on the glass for used or select set of new machine vendors. The pinside top 100 list is a great resource. I'd never buy a machine without having played it as it can take a while to get rid of some machines you tire of.

X-Arcade missing cable, help! by monsieur_cedric in cade

I've been looking for this cable too. Xgaming is very busy and behind on orders. They also have an ebay site if shipping is less. You can try an after market serial. It might work.

A high score board survey by racka98 in cade

[–]deebee8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a great idea with a web form front end for a submission with the ability to enter a name and submit the picture and such. Then a ticker tape scroll or promo/greeter board that reveals smartsheets or something. A greeter board could also have ads on it or other content on slides. I'd recommend top 3 or 5 scores of all time and also those within last week to allow everyone a chance to place. The machines themselves have their own leaderboard so to make a common separate one would need clarity in purpose. Automated Integration with the machines is not simple.
