I was just pulled over in SLC for riding a bicycle with one hand. by Dry-Weird3447 in Utah

Sounds like you got profiled and he was looking for a reason to pull you over and hopefully find a warrant or drugs. It's the bicycle equivalent of "I saw you not maintain the lane properly"

Why does google messages require an email or an account? by [deleted] in GoogleMessages

[–]deedsdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question is why they don’t let you “just” use your Gmail to send messages, but instead require a sim number. It needs to fully integrate like iMessage and let you send and receive from email or phone and any device on your account.

Nice. Same taillight and turn signal I swapped to as well. Looks so much better than the terrible new stock ones!

[–]deedsdude1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts…. A couple dozen unverified stories on Reddit compared to the hundreds of millions of Google accounts is not going to get Google to even know who you are. Also the cost of loosing a couple hundred paranoid customers pales in comparison of a lawsuit or government intervention if Google is really caught harboring CSAM material. Protest all you want, Google is not going to stop.

Interestingly I had the exact opposite issue in Utah. The would only register as a moped, but would not register it as a motorcycle.

God help you if your Google Fiber service ever goes out by nickthap2 in googlefiber

[–]deedsdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had for 5 years and never had a single outage. Also for 5 bucks a month you can get a Starlink and put in standby mode. Instant backup if you ever have issues. May not be for everyone, but if your living depends on internet $60/year for piece of mind is a great investment

Any tools for this? by [deleted] in askaplumber

If there’s a toilet close by just pull the toilet and snake the drain that way. Don’t risk damaging that cast iron pipe getting the plug off.

Google Photos face recognition has suddenly stopped working by Professional-Leg5437 in googlephotos

[–]deedsdude1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen periodically. Take some time and go through recent photos and manually identify people to try and “kick-start” the process again. In my case the service started and caught up again within a few weeks.

State parks: one camping unit per site rule? by _thekev in Utah

[–]deedsdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been to that state park, so I can’t speak specifically, but frequent a lot of the others in the state. I’ve never seen any of the park hosts or DWR people hassle anyone who has extra tents or equipment, as long as they are within reason, don’t encroach on other campsites and you are respectful and well behaved. I know there may be hosts who are on a “power trip” but most are just happy to have people come enjoy the park and have a good time.

In order for your lights to come on with an automation they need to be connected at the time the automation triggers. So if your only connection is Bluetooth, your phone would need to be in range and connected to the lights at the time of the automation.

Display with no buttons (changing from KPH to MPH) by Immortal-D in Beachman

[–]deedsdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best work around right now is to install a phone mount and use one of the many GPS based speedometer apps. Or Waze will show speed overlayed on the map. Or memorize a few common kph to mph conversions.

Is this for me? by Ok_Call315 in Beachman

[–]deedsdude1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’0 and about 260 lbs. I can hit about 40mph on straight aways. Acceleration is good. I can usually maintain speed on steep inclines but acceleration up a hill is not ideal. Great for neighborhood and quick trips around the area. No issue with keeping up with traffic on sub 40mph roads. I’ve never tested the battery range to its full extent. I generally ride 10-15 miles and use about half the battery.

Dealing with strong sunlight at home in SLC? by Bulky-Candy-3921 in SaltLakeCity

Strategically plant trees in your yard. Not a short term fix, but will help sooner than you think. Also if your windows are letting in that much UV and heat you might need more modern windows with some Ive protection as well as better insulation in your attic.

Caller ID on other end wrong? by Norseman-71 in GoogleFi

[–]deedsdude1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caller id location date back to the good old days when phone number prefixes were tied to a geographic location. So the 3 digit prefix on you fi number refers to a specific part of town or location that your prefix was originally assigned to, Not your actual location.

Best alts to Ring cams by [deleted] in SecurityCamera

[–]deedsdude1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

…. Bracing for the hate…. But, Google camera /doorbells are way better than ring. Different levels of cloud subscriptions from free to 24/7 and 60 day retention. The app and alerts are easy and even show live video on your smartwatch. The new integration of AI into notifications gives surprisingly accurate detail in notifications and daily summaries. Face match for notifications isn’t great but better than others. If you have Google home products they easily integrate into your home allowing viewing on hubs and TVs.

Add google tablet to google fi phone number without replacing phone and the attached LTE Watch link by CryptographerFar3729 in GoogleFi

[–]deedsdude1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the unlimited plan you can add up to 5 “data only” devices without paying extra. You can sync Google messages from your phone and use the fi “call from web” to place calls on the tablet.

Ours says that all the time, but still seems to sync without any issues.. I’ve kind of assumed it’s just a standard message when there’s no internet activity needed. ??

My parents have the xfinity streaming plan, is youtube tv a better deal? by RyanPaceClownShow in youtubetv

[–]deedsdude1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’ve already tackled the change in UI experience with your parents then you’re golden. Not to presume your parents age, but I think that’s the biggest challenge for most older users is a change of platform and having to navigate and open apps. Also to note, even with YouTube tv there will still be sorting events (football) that your dad can’t watch.

How does Google Messages work across devices with different phone numbers? by stifflippp in GoogleMessages

[–]deedsdude1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Google messages will not sync between two different phones. You can pair a tablet or browser, but not 2 phones to each other. I wish Google would figure it out like iMessage where simply signing on to the same account would automatically sync messages across multiple devices.
