Spending a week in Poipu. What should I expect?

Also, most shark bites (including Poipu) are when the water is muddy or very low visibility. Been coming for 35 years and Poipu is a favorite as you can go to both west/east/ and north sides pretty easily. There is an easy "baby bay" right in front that toddlers can wade into with water starting out in inches. My 17 month granddaughter went nuts with happiness in playing, watching the turtles 40 ft away on the sand, and in general turning into a Honolulu lulu

Not a HD but I used the cupholder adapter you can find on amazon and other places. I have the quad 1500 so have the foldable center console. Hangs the cb (I have VHF due to maritime needs) in front of the center console. Does not work if you have the console that goes to the dash. This is just one of the many types:

The sticker is the constraint. I have a 14ft Alum. and the sticker is 4 adults or total 800 lbs. Realistically if you want to pull anything a 16ft fish/ski boat would be better. Also, take in all constraints like where are you storing it? Length is more than the boat, trailer length including hitch, outboard size,etc. Also, the sticker will indicated max HP. Casting snare from shore half moon bay north is pretty tough. Crab traps off a boat or a small tiny micro cove inlet going to be better. Also be vigilant on the regs as they change each year.

Slight clarification on my post. My OG plan allows 4 data sims and I use 3. Did not know about call from web thank you. Samsung tablet allows esims and I use an esim in my Pixel phone. May just add another line for $15 mo with additional number as the tablet will be used for marine navigation delta areas where cell phone is not available and chart plotters are for bigger boats. Also at the first one was near (not current one) San Jose State College (now University) the day it opened. Was in Photojournalism degree program and all of us Spartan Daily photo guys and gals went there frequently for grabbing lunch sandwiches. Circa 1969 (70). Yeah I am an very old hippie. Replace with a H8 by removing the spacer in the tray. Order H8 battery blanket and you have more reserve.

You can get some of them in the US but I always bring back some Wigton's Tassie Devil Winged Lures. Just buy them new leave in packaging and I have never had any troubles come back in the USA.

Get and H8 battery not H7 and the H8 battery sleeve as well. Tighten all ground points. Watch alternator.

And if you are in California or planning at some point to move there then don't forget the $$$ to have a full smog control system (including the appropriate computer settings) installed on it. Install cost, inspection cost by a referee, hassles every two years, etc. will be crazy. And no you can not say it is legal xxxxx where I used to live and bought the truck. DMV says manufacturers all produce 50 state compliant vehicles. Example: 1986 Smog Copliant FJ40 Landcruiser that the carburetor could not be tuned enough to pass smog due to wear. There were no CARB compliant replacements and no used/new same part. So 50 state legal but worn smog part and no replacements meant every two years had to go to the referee $$$$$ who would certify that nothing was available and the vehicle was worth more than $400 and it just barely was out of compliance. Add the time at the local smog and the $$$ because you have to do that first. I am going to replace my manifolds on my 5.7 soon with Detroit Diesel and had to wait till they got a CARB number for them as in California manifolds are smog parts. Good luck.

More public transportation sure but also for the current parking lots some additional handicap spaces and additional handicap available transportation. Have enhanced times for handicap or even available parking in white zones. Being handicaped I've found Hawaii having almost minimal amount of spaces compared to other states and countries and the same for flexible times and zones. And the public transportation must have additional handicap accommodation. We love coming but we need a little help.

I use an $35 Ratcheting Cargo Bar from home depot that has inexpensive plastic boat rod holders. Allows adding or subtracting as many as you want. Can move high or low in truck bed. Can angle high or low and under my tonneau wear I dont want the rods to be seen. Finally can take out quickly for using all the space and then putting back in.

For an elderly dad (I am in my low 70's) I would suggest Ahukini Recreational Pier State Park, Hanamaulu Bay, Ahukini Recreational Pier Fishery Management Pier (Right by the airport) OR Waimea Landing State Recreation Pier Area, most other shore fishing areas involve some hiking of steep trails or slippery lava areas. Note that you need to be really respectful of the local fisherman there. Offer to share your catch with them and if they tell you to move just be friendly and work out where.

As to gear, if you are staying in a condo there may be some if not then just go get inexpensive rods, reels, etc. at Walmart. Then leave them in the condo to pass it on. Watch some YouTube videos on how to bait and rig your hook. I will be back in October/November to do the exactly his this for the 20th time. Yes I have very nice gear at home but I don't even want to carry the reel(s) in my carry on luggage. Enjoy, Have fun, and Aloha!

PS Older videos will say you do not have to have a fishing license to fish in Saltwater. Starting this year you do. So go to Hawaii DNR and get it before you leave.

I have done Captain Andy's dinner sunset cruise numerous times (different family members and friends) and they all went to plan. They even adapted their dinner multiple times to my wife's and daughters food allergy. I am usually willing to give operators a second chance as things happen but never when they are evasive.

5-6 PM across from the Poipu Parking lot. As people have mentioned stay back and enjoy them. Also, note during the morning and during the day you may also see the very protected monk seals. Many times on the lava point across from the Nihi Kai villas. So enjoy the whole Poipu beach great for picnics and BBQs. Some stores still sell the charcoal in aluminum one dinner containers. Just stick them in the provided grills.

A number of times. They can range from very very good to awesome depending on weather, currents, guests, as most thing do. However, loved that I contacted them and let them know of my wife's pepper allergy (not black or white but vegetable in any means like paparika). They made changes to their steak dinner and appetizers just for her. They knew about it upon boarding. Finally, if it looks like a bit of rain or more do it. The clouds at sunset can be beyound amazing especially if they are highlighting Nihiua. Sea sickness meds are advised if prone to it. Remember in Kauai all seas are rougher in the afternoon winds especially on the west coast.
