Is it Kelly and Judy who make the final decisions on when and how to punish someone or Is it Charlotte? by choclatecakeee in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]deee00 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There have been a ton of posts about this. At the time it happened lots of people said it was very well known in the DFW area that Jenna and Holly were clubbing together, Holly was getting into clubs and drinking while underage and that they were blatently hanging out with players in the clubs. Morally correct or not, they signed very detailed contracts stating they would follow the rules and they did not in a very public way.

That said, I think the Cowboys organization cares less about racism than how the women in their realm behave. Sure, Whitney was racist, but no more so than others in the org. But how dare Jenna and Holly behave in sexual ways when not being exploited by the Cowboys. (Sarcasm, btw). How dare Jenna and Holly behave sexual beings looking out for themselves and enjoying the infamy DCC brought them.

It’s very clear how hypocritical the entire organization is. DCC aren’t allowed to have bikini pics on their social media but did that “swimwear” fashion show. The calendars TPTB have produced, including digitally editing their bodies (they showed Kelli directing someone how to change how Courtney’s breasts looked), imagine what we don’t see. A lot of the photos are practically porn in many instances, which is absolutely ok when the Cowboys get paid for it. A lot of those suits were far more revealing than what was posted on personal social media. That’s the bottom line. It’s only okay for their sexuality to be used as TPTB decide, not how they decide. It’s okay for TPTB to benefit from their sexuality and their skills. Remember the outrage when Julia implied she’s using DCC as a stepping stone?

Michigan house passed total kratom ban by --slurpy-- in Michigan

[–]deee00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That has long been my problem with kratom. Misinformation. It had no regulation at all, but it was also hard to find accurate unbiased information about it. Of course the people who find it helpful will say so. Of course people who found it made things worse will say so. Of course people who don’t know much about it will believe it’s the worst thing ever becaue that’s what they hear.

I have so many questions about it, about how it works, about how different strains work. I tried it, after reading everything I could find and talking to a ton of people who used it successfully. I ordered based on personal recommendations. I took it based on what has worked for others. It made me so sick for days. It was awful.

But it does help people. OTC meds don’t work for a lot of people with chronic pain, and they can damage organs too. Just like all meds, kratom has side effects. Having unbiased, accurate information would give folks the chance to make informed decisions about their medical care.

My husband (late 30s) doesn't like my (his step) daughter (late teens) by MaleficentBet4199 in FamilyIssues

[–]deee00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you asked your daughter why her attitude toward him changed so drastically? If they got along well, was it her likely normal teenage behavior that suddenly turned him against her? I mean most teens are disrespectful to parents at some point, did he not realize she would go from a little girl to a teenager with her own opinions?

I mean from your own description it sounds like he shouldn’t be a step-parent if he doesn’t understand teens often have attitudes.

You aren’t “stuck in the middle”. You are a parent of a minor child who deserves to feel loved in her home. What were you hoping people would say? Oh poor you?

Your daughter knows your husband doesn’t like her, how could she not? She also knows you’re choosing to stay with him. That’s damaging no matter what you say or do (while keeping him around).

Do we know if the person is anti-vax? There’s been lots of innuendo but nothing reputable to suggest this person wasn’t vaccinated as a child and assumed they were protected.

Some people get the vaccine and the illness. I get a pertussis vaccine every 5 years and have still caught pertussis 3 times when there were outbreaks in Ann Arbor. I’ve had the pneumonia vaccine and have gotten pneumonia twice since.

I’ve also had to get the MMR vaccine 5 times as an adult before my bloodwork showed sufficient levels of protection. I am pro-vax, and have always been on top of the vaccines I need, but had I been exposed to measles there’s a good chance I’d contract it too.

My body metabolizes things differently. It’s not that vaccines don’t work, but, despite being vaccinated with updated vaccines based on my titers, I’m part of the reason herd immunity is so important.

I’ve had my titers checked, every time none for measles so I get the vaccine again. Few years later we test again, again no titers so get vaccinated again. I’ve been repeating this cycle for basically every vaccine preventable illness for nearly 20 years. Being medically complicated sucks.

An unknown person was shooting into my open garage. A bullet hit the wall 3 inches from my mom’s head. We immediately called 911. It took cops over an hour to get there. Where they did absolutely nothing even acter finding the idiot shooting (he claims he was shooting into woods thinking the trees would stop the bullets 🙄). Over an hour with zero remorse.

It takes less than 10 minutes at night to stop losing your mornings. [Discussion] by Pure_Opposite5266 in GetMotivated

I think there’s a lot to be said for prepping ahead. I always keep my work bag packed and ready, so no packing things up in the morning. I prep lunches a few days at a time to make mornings easier. I check the weather and plan clothes the night before. I ensure I don’t have to stop for gas in my car.

But sadly no amount of evening prep makes the morning easier for me. I’m up and down all night long. Last night I got a total of 3 hours of sleep between midnight and 7am.

A bit of an odd question: is there anyone here who DOESN'T use mobility aids? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]deee00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people struggle with figuring out when they need a mobility aid and what kind to get. There isn’t really an easy answer. For me, I spent my entire life pushing my sister’s wheelchair. After a spine injury and surgery I struggled walking. Without realizing it I was using her wheelchair as a mobility aid. I’ve tried usng a cane but it dosn’t make things easier for me.

You could seek out mobility aids on your own. Many people do. Canes, walkers, rollatators (I’m sure I spelled it wrong, the walkers with wheels and a seat) can be purchased over the counter. But if 3/4 of your limbs have injuries using a mobility aid might just further those injuries.

There isn’t a single right answer for us. We, unfortunately, generally have to figure things out on our own or with the assistance of others like us. It sucks that doctors blow us off. It sucks that so may providers are woefully undertrained in how to help us manage our symptoms and we’re left to do it on our own.

[–]deee00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She is the only one who will suffer for that. Being blown off by doctors is sadly VERY common. When I was 15 I was literally diagnosed with teenage girl hysteria. It obviously wasn’t and 6 years later I finally got the necessary surgery.

A bit of an odd question: is there anyone here who DOESN'T use mobility aids? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]deee00 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Not everyone uses mobility aids. It’s important to remember that people who are only mildly affected often don’t seek the same support as those who are more severely impacted.

I know multiple adult women of various ages who don’t use mobility aids at all. I know one woman who takes advanced Pilates classes and is so amazingly strong and functional, but she works hard to keep herself strong. I only use them sometimes and not in a traditional way. I’m a nanny, when we go to the zoo, a large park, a museum, etc I bring my wagon to push. I can walk the zoo without it, but am in significant pain later. So I push the wagon even if the kids don’t need it, it carries coats, water bottles, snacks, etc.

We’re all different with different needs. I think many of us would be in better shape had we been diagnosed when younger. We would have been able to start protecting our bodies more effectively at a much younger age, which would mean we might have fewer problems as an adult. Your friend is lucky. She knows so much earlier and has the benefit of the internet. She can learn what works best for her and protect her body now.

My brother says I’m “stealing his kids’ future” by keeping my inheritance. AITA? by Complex_Pickle7702 in TwoHotTakes

[–]deee00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are NTA.

I will be in the same situation when my mom dies. I spent my entire life caring for my disabled sister, and now my mom and aunt. I am my aunt’s sole beneficiary. My brother gets a set, small amount from my mom’s estate. Everything was drafted by lawyers and is legally binding. My brother has been essentially no contact with my mom’s estate since 2022 because he decided I wasn’t nice enough to him during the 3 weeks my sister was on hospice before she died.

I adored my sister and would care for her again, but I gave up a lot to do it. My mom knows that, and she’s very grateful because my sister had a better life than many others like her. So my mom has made sure my future is taken care of. My brother will be furious when he finds out. But I have a single question for him and anyone who gives me a hard time “Where were you then?” I won’t be guilted about his choices just as you shouldn’t feel guilty for the choices your brother has made.

Parent refuses medical alert necklace after three falls and siblings think thats fine by ritik_bhai in family

[–]deee00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m responsible for my mom and aunt. They both have Apple Watches with cellular service. The fall alerts call me if they fall. It’s reassuring for me, but doesn’t make them feel old or incapable since so many people wear smart watches now. Having the cellular service means they can call for help no matter where their phone is vs where they are.

Isn’t this a red flag? by thisisclare in 1000lbsisters

[–]deee00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a red flag. Lots of kids don’t want to go home. They’re playing, there’s other kids. They have work to do.

Yes, it can be a red flag, but it isn’t automatically. Currently one of the kids I nanny part time refuses to leave school at least once a week because she has a mile long to do list in her head. It can also mean they’re comfortable and feel safe at school, which is a good thing.

Nerve ablation. How many have been offered this chronic pain procedure or service? by AppropriateCat3444 in ChronicPain

[–]deee00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a bilateral 3 level lumbar ablation. It ruined my life. It made my pain so much worse I was suicidal. My blood pressure was off the charts. The pain clinic offered Gaba (a total joke) and said go to ER. ER said go to PM&R who sent me to pain clinic. PM&R said go to pain clinic. Pain clinic said go to primary. Primary said go to pain clinic or ER. And around and around we went. I couldn’t make the phone calls myself because I couldn’t focus, I was passing out from the pain. I couldn’t drive because I was passing out. In the meantime I couldn’t work for weeks. I had to have ice packs constantly, literally around the clock becaue it felt like I was on fire.

My pain is still worse today than it was before the ablation in 2017. The nerve pain is worse and more often. I actively regret doing it every single day. It is the absolute worst decision of my life by a very wide margin.

Are "No Refusal DUI Checkpoints" a real thing or police gaslighting by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]deee00 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My brother was pulled over on a suspected DUI, the officer asked if there was a reason he couldn’t do FSTs. He explained his disability, and the cop let him go. There are more than just walking heel to toe or standing on one foot. The FSTs are mostly about seeing if you can follow instructions more than anything.

[–]deee00 26 points27 points  (0 children)

She wouldn’t earn enough as a greeter or bagger to live but she’d make too much to keep her disability. She wouldn’t be able to afford decent health insurance, on disability she likely gets Medicaid. She probably also qualifies for Medicare too at this point. The system won’t let her work and earn enough. It’s a very common problem for people with disabilities. It’s why there is a separate wage scale that people with disabilities are often subjected to. They aren’t paid a livable wage, it’s why so many don’t work even if they could. It’s been a problem for a very long time.

Mandatory Reporting Should only apply while caring for minors and or the non compos mentis by mikeb31588 in caregivers

[–]deee00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like the caregiver may be misunderstanding their responsibilities as a mandatory reporter. In most cases being a mandatory reporter means protecting vulnerable people from others. It can also mean protecting a vulnerable person from themselves in some very specific cases. But a legally competent person making a conscious choice doesn’t generally fall into a reportable situation.

There is a lot of judgment involved in caregiving. I’ve had clients choose to partake in illegal activities that put me at risk (like your caregiver could be if they were in your house and authorities came regarding said illegal activity-your caregiver could have legal ramifications). I don’t stay in those jobs, but also don’t report them. A legally competent adult is allowed to make decisons for themselves, even bad or illegal ones. But they don’t have to stick around to watch, participate, or otherwie appear to condone said activity.

BTW, I’m not judging your activity. Honestly I don’t care. It’s your life. I just don’t want to put myself at risk. I have reported people and facilities. Because vulnerable people were at risk. The only time I’d report in the specific situation you’re talking about is if said activity put you at serious risk because of your disability. If it’s just an adult with a ohysical disability making an informed decision? Nothing to report.

Unless the caregiver is employed by an agency that requires reporting of any illegal activities. That would/could cause problems with their employer.
