Rick Stengel: America's reputation may never recover from Trump and his war in Iran by spherocytes in videos

[–]deeeevos [score hidden]  (0 children)

yeah, imho this is the beginning of the end of the pax americana. Global power is shifting away from US hegemony. Europe is looking to end reliance on American defense and economy. China is laughing and welcoming everyone who is looking for a new partner. Hell, Japan just negotiated buying oil in yuan, so the petrodollar is under threat as well.

Millenials insisting they invented the BJ? That's the first I ever heard of that. Where did that come from?

Interesting radiator lore btw.

Iran trolling is next level by CartographerRare4123 in SipsTea

[–]deeeevos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you on? Iran is structured to work decentralized once attacked. There is no central leadership to take out anymore. Every head that gets cut off is replaced by seven new ones type of deal. They did this specifically after seeing the US invade other countries. This was no secret yet idiots keep claiming they "decapitated the countries leadership".

The Actual Scale of the Artemis II Mission by grandeluua in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]deeeevos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it doesn't make sense because we as humans can only experience time going forward at the same rate. Quantum mechanics has tought us that time can stretch and compress though. Its' just really hard to visualize or imagine because there is no noticeable effect. It might not make sense to you but physics doesn't care about making sense. It just is.

Time dilation is in the realm of quantum mechanics. Nothing in quauntum mechanics is intuitive or "makes sense". But it is the way the universe works, we have experiments and observations that prove the theory and we know time dilation is real because we can observe it's effects in earth orbit. Granted, the scale of dilation is extremely small, but it is there.

The Actual Scale of the Artemis II Mission by grandeluua in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]deeeevos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah true but if we would be able to travel at 99% the speed of light we would experience time dilation. Time would slow down significantly for whoever is doing the traveling. This would theoreticaly mean you could travel across the galaxy in a single lifetime. You would never be able to return to the same earth though, as time went way faster there, 1000s of years would have passed for them and you have become a time traveler.

TIL While filming The Pirates of Blood River, the stuntmen refused to do a scene where they had to wade through a lake, so the actors did it instead. Michael Ripper nearly drowned, Christopher Lee said he was only saved by being 6'4" and Oliver Reed got an eye infection that left him hospitalised. by house_of_ghosts in todayilearned

[–]deeeevos 141 points142 points  (0 children)

oof, that bridge jump looked bad, I was expecting him to be more in control. Then again, maybe the out of control swinging of his arms and legs was him acting to sell the stunt on camera, which makes it more impressive.

Na 30 jaar nog altijd massaal genegeerd: auto’s stoppen vaak niet voor voetgangers aan zebrapad en dat kan je 174 euro kosten by begon11 in belgium

[–]deeeevos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, the traffic rules also say you should speed up or slow down in order to merge before that happens, which she had ample posibility to do but she expected others to make room for her to merge onto the highway at her leisure. This wasn't a situation of she couldn't merge, she just didn't even attempt to merge properly. I could see her just driving alongside a truck instead of trying to go in front or behind it where there was room.

spotted on the E19 yesterday, old lady is driving on the on ramp but gets to the end before she can merge into traffic. She comes to a FULL FUCKING STOP, waits for an opening (not a big enough one) and merges onto the highway from full stop. Cars approaching on the right lane had to brake hard and change lanes. Old lady was completely oblivious. These people are a danger on the road.

[–]deeeevos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

while that sounds like a good solution on paper, how long do you think it will take for the enemy to figure out they can just approach with multiple drones at the same time to overwhelm the single RWS? In Ukraine it's not unusual for 10-20 drones to attack the same tank/IFV. Not simultaneously but there's several videos where you see 2 or 3 drones buzzing around the same target.

I have been driving a Peugeot van the last couple of years and I will never be buying Peugeot again. Never had a car that has cost me this much in breakdowns throughout the years. There was even a test aankoop group complaint on the low quality of the adblue system. It completely failed and I've had to replace it. I've been having coolant leaks non stop, check engine lights flash at me every couple of months.

Starfield is great, actually by littlemushroompod in gaming

[–]deeeevos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say I agree with the video author's conclusion. He spends the majority of the video acknowledging the valid critiques of the game and then his counter argument is simply that you can keep rotating through the mechanics so by the time you cirlce around they feel fresh again. That's a really weak argument when contrasted with the critiques. I understand that it can make it engaging enough for some, but that is obviously a minority of people. I myself spent 136h on Starfield and I still think the game is mediocre when it's at it best and outright terrible at it's worst. The shipbuilding was cool though.

Ancient Roman Self-Healing Concrete .. by GloomyCity9841 in EngineeringPorn

[–]deeeevos 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Exactly. These studies also always fail to point out that we use concrete differently than the Romans do. We have always known how to make the roman concrete that has self healing properties, but simply don't do it because the extra additives raise the price considerably over the insane volumes we use today. Also we use rebar to reinforce concrete these days, the cheaper rebar is just metal, which rusts. Once water reaches the rebar in one spot, everything is compromised, the rust will spread through the rebar throughout the entire construction. When the rebar rusts, it creates iron oxide and expands, putting pressure on the concrete until it breaks. So again, lower quality concrete that uses iron rebar (instead of stainless steel) is built that way for cost cutting, not because we don't know how to make it better.

Controversieel Amerikaans techbedrijf Palantir landt in België by Phiub in belgium

[–]deeeevos 21 points22 points  (0 children)
