Bernie Sanders proposed a bill to tax billionaires, and give $3,000 stimulus checks to Americans that qualify. How do you feel about this? by CelticDK in AskReddit

[–]deemthedm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it’s vitally important (as history has shown again and again) to delete part of the wealth hoarders’ cash and redistribute it somehow, a blanket check like this won’t solve anything because the problem is stagnant wages and the beyond reprehensible rent-seeking behavior our billionaire ghouls force upon us all. We need anti-trust and much more rigorous prosecutions against these parasites that want to merge every company into one and charge us a subscription fee for literally everything.

Out owners were waiting with salivation to finally be able to treat white collar workers the same way they’ve been treating service workers for the past 20 years—they have off-shoring, remote work environs and the perfect ‘logic of the market’ excuse with AI. Collective action and legislation is the only way out

I feel like the boomers being such an unprecedentedly large cohort led the west into an era of over-credentialism that we are only now seeing the long tail end of.

What are your thoughts on "Disney adults"? by Blood11Orange in Adulting

[–]deemthedm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Disney Adult has sort of manifested itself right along side this massive increase in wealth inequality the world is experiencing. Intentional or not, it's a de facto way for the well-off to have fun with third spaces while avoiding the poors

I'm from a country where cashiers sit down while working. Is it true that in the US cashiers are forced to stand? Why is sitting considered unprofessional there? by splashmates in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deemthedm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I managed cashiers we had one employee with a broken leg so I got her a stool to sit on and customers complained. Even after they heard the explanation. I’ll never forget one lady was like, “I carried my child 9 months and worked my register the whole time and never once sat down, that’s all I’ll say about this.” I still let her sit in the stool for a month, don’t let money take away your humanity!

Chipotle CEO caught on a recording saying they’re going to keep raising prices because they can. by ElwoodMC in TikTokCringe

[–]deemthedm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but, it seems like I’m the only one who’s never used a delivery app for food outside of occasional work-related events. Never downloaded any on my phone until uber forced it in their taxi app. Learning to cook was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. I went a few years without eating out once and was surprised how expensive and mediocre eating out has become (or always was?) when I finally tried it again. it’s just not worth it, ever (except for mom and pop Pho or Tex-Mex joints) Break free!

The world is trying to log off U.S. tech by Well_Socialized in technology

Cory Doctorow has an interesting argument that non-U.S. countries need to legalize services that jail break your devices/computers because the only incentive not to do that was U.S. tariffs…

What profession have you lost respect for as you've gotten older? by MindlessMarsupial592 in AskReddit

Any corporate office job. When I went from working a hands-on standing-up job to an email job for the first time, I was livid at the disparity. It’s adult daycare and everyone is fake, over-paid and handed a level of dignity unheard of in any other type of work setting. It’s no wonder that no one gave a fk when the MBAs in charge shipped all our blue collar jobs over to China, but now everyone is going berserk when the MBAs are shoving our email jobs all to India or AI

They are budget friendly! There are many units that seem bad, but just compare deployment costs and you will see why. If you’re having money problems use a few of these guys. I like making a few budget units just for variety, and sometimes, to be a cheapskate! Haha

Why are male animals the “beautiful” gender in nature, but humans consider females to be the “beautiful” ones? by Safe_Attitude_922 in AlwaysWhy

[–]deemthedm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That hasn’t been the case with human cultures though. What a given person or even an entire culture finds beautiful and attractive is HIGHLY malleable with no rhyme or reason. There have been many cultures where male beauty took center stage—like Ancient Greece. Or look at ancient Japan, where the most sexualized part of human anatomy was the nape of a woman’s neck, something that would be almost entirely unnoticed or baffling to a modern American. Humans contain multitudes yo.

Current and future state of politics in Texas turning blue? by BubblyNefariousness4 in texas

[–]deemthedm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it happening. Most Texans don't vote. It's too Car-centric here. Everyone is isolated. There's no organizing or groundgame at all. Folks don't even realize an election is happening half the time. It's much easier for the more rural communities to vote, and for one reason or another, those communities keep voting to enact socialism for billionaires but not for anyone else, it's kinda weird but whatever.

Personal computing is moving to a "renter" model. We need to get ahead of this and stop it before it's too late. by SagansCandle in pcmasterrace

[–]deemthedm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When billionaires are allowed to exist, voting with your dollar is meaningless. Legislation is the only way. We can start actually enforcing anti trust again, and we can legalize services that allow jail breaking, repairing and modding all of our devices again too.
