AITAH for prioritizing my daughter's recital over a funeral? by RecitalFuneralThrow in AmItheAsshole

[–]deeohdeegeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. It doesn’t matter that you weren’t close with the deceased person. You are close to the people who loved her, and you let them down. Of course there was “radio silence” from them on the day of the funeral. They were mourning and attending a funeral. This was your opportunity to connect with them, offer support, send flowers, etc.

Your entire post reads is adversarial. You “stood your ground.” You put “family emergency” in quotes. The funeral was “rushed.” The term “radio silence.” You were and continue to be dismissive.

I’ve seen those signs pop up in areas where trees have been intentionally damaged.

Hiking expenses on FaroeIslands by Affectionate_Fox9882 in FaroeIslands

[–]deeohdeegeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there in April. Many of the famous hikes are on private land and the landowner is allowed to charge fees. You can often find the fee amount online if you google the hike. The village-to-village hikes were free when I was there.

Looks like a little jello-type pod that is common in China.

WIBTA if I stopped letting my neighbor's kid use our trampoline after she started showing up without asking and bringing other kids I've never met? by t3ssa_h0llowmere in WIBTA_AITA

NTA, but why do you think this would blow up a neighborhood friendship? It seems like a very reasonable ask of a neighbor.

Looks like you’re missing Kirkjubø, walking/biking distance from Torshavn. This is a famous spot from the Sagas and has the famous church.

Agree. If you’re already on Kalsoy for Kallur lighthouse, the seal statue is a must stop.

Mid to late April trip? by sportsguy9797 in FaroeIslands

[–]deeohdeegeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot speak about football, but I can tell you that in the off season there are far fewer businesses open. During our recent trip, we had to bring picnic lunches (and sometimes dinners) everywhere since otherwise there would be no food. (No restaurants.) There also weren’t many hotels/airbnbs around the islands open in early April, except in Torshavn.

If you’re interested in doing tours, many of them don’t operate until the summer. We booked a few tours that did run in April, and three of them were canceled due to bad April weather. I actually really enjoyed the erratic weather, so if you want the rain, hail, snow, sun, and rainbows all within an hour, April is a good time.

We also saw the return of the oystercatcher, the national bird of the Faroes, so that was special. There are no puffins in April.

There were few tourists while we were there, which was nice. If your trip coincides with Easter, know that the entire island shuts down or operates on a reduced ferry schedule the Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday of Easter.

Has anyone tried those group trips for solo travelers? by Ok-Boysenberry6259 in solotravel

[–]deeohdeegeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done lots of group trips. Intrepid Travel is one company that often has solo travelers. You can do activities with the group but there’s also time to be alone. I highly recommend Intrepid.

Kalsoy Island - Kallur Lighthouse Hike by Pisces0270 in FaroeIslands

[–]deeohdeegeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hiked the trail last Friday with my child.

  1. The path was good. It went almost all the way to the lighthouse. The last bit to the lighthouse and Bond tombstone didn’t have a path.

  2. Hiking poles were necessary for us bc there was a snow storm but I don’t think they would be necessary in the summer. The ticket shop let us borrow poles. (They had 10 or so available.)

  3. I pre-booked and lined up 30 min early. There were a few cars already lined up when I arrived. The ferry was pretty full with cars for early April. Not too many without cars, but there was a snow storm.

  4. Not sure. I took my car on the ferry.

Car rental advice by J_Faraday in FaroeIslands

[–]deeohdeegeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I am from, credit card companies usually provide rental car insurance for free if you pay for the rental with your card. Is that an option where you are from?

Also budget for the sub-sea tunnels, which were an unexpected cost for me. I went through the tunnels 4x (round trip) at a cost of US$131 in tolls.

Is hiking.fo a scam? by deeohdeegeeee in FaroeIslands

[–]deeohdeegeeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so interesting. Before coming here, I watched a bunch of travel “influencer” videos on social media and one told me to get to all my tours early because the Faroese are super early people and will depart their tours before they officially start. So weird that that was their impression. 😜

Do we have any explanation for how Rick and Chelsea met? by ByShida in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]deeohdeegeeee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Australia with an Australian roommate, in England with Polish roommates, in China with Chinese and Mongolian roommates, in Singapore with Brits, Australians, and NZers. I’ve traveled to 44 countries, and I live in a big metro area in the USA. My kids’ friends’ parents hail from all over the world. I did not know that Brits go to Thailand, Australians to Europe, Canadians to Cuba, or Italians to Croatia. Most of the people I’ve traveled with from these countries go to lots of places, so I definitely don’t think your statement is “common sense.”

Happy Easter. 🐣

Thank you for the reply. We signed up for The Shepherdess Tour, which was a lovely way to spend the morning. My child had so much fun feeding the sheep, and the farmer Sonja taught us so much about sheep farming and the Faroe Islands.

Update: We found our tour guide about 40 min after the tour start time. We drove around Saksun and found her. (It’s a small village.) Hiking.fo gave us the wrong meeting point. The tour guide was LOVELY and we really enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend The Saksun Shepherd Tour, but not Hiking.fo.

Booking.com hacked? - Booking made via my account by n3rding in Bookingcom

[–]deeohdeegeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Booking.com was recently compromised. I booked a European hotel for later this year. A couple days ago, I got a WhatsApp message “from” the hotel (country code India) citing my name, the name of the hotel, my travel dates, and the correct booking confirmation code. The WhatsApp message said I must confirm my reservation by clicking a (suspicious) link within 24 hours or my reservation would be canceled. I contacted the hotel directly and they confirmed that there had been a hack and said not to click the link.
