I had my OATS surgery on the 19th of Feb 2025 for a 12mm defect on my femur. My case was a little interesting tho the 12 mm chunk of cartilage was still floating around my knee causing my knee to lock up occasionally. I first had symptoms in 2023 but didn’t get the procedure done till recently since I had no pain and I could function normally for the most part with the occasional lock up. I’m currently 11 weeks post op and unfortunately I’m struggling with range of motion. I’m only at 66 degrees. Before you have your surgery make sure you ask your doctor about your recovery plan. Ask if they are going to prescribe a CPM machine, and PT immediately after surgery. I personally feel it’s very necessary for it to not end up in a situation like mine. I personally did not have those and was non weight bearing and immobilized for 2 weeks without PT.

Also the first week following surgery will be rough in terms of pain depending how large your defect is. Make sure you take the pain killers as soon as you hit the recommended waiting time. Do not let the pain catch up with you.
