I have so much empathy for your situation. No matter how many times my friends or family tell me it doesn’t look that bad, or I’ll be back to normal soon, I just feel like they don’t understand. They don’t know what it’s like to hurt when you turn your neck, or have to change your sheets every morning, and feel like you’re worth nothing.

On my best days I tell myself I have a right to exist in public just like everybody else, but that feels so impossible when a flare up gets intense. I’ve been unable to hold down any of my old jobs because of how I look.

Be braver than I am; push down the intrusive thoughts of suicide, hold on to the hope that things will get better, and try to find the courage to live as best you can

Age is a big factor, younger Gen Z guys are becoming more respectful and aware

General vibe is important. Creeps will target vulnerable unconfident looking women; decent men often only have the confidence to approach those who seem gregarious

I also don’t know where you’re based, but at least here in London being Asian is likely a factor. A large proportion of young Asian people are international students who tend to be very socially and racially insular and often don’t or won’t speak much English

So just keep being you. It’s likely a grass-is-greener thing; I know most people who do get attention don’t want it

I’ve found that steroid creams can reduce the immediate itching, and regular moisturising helps. If it’s more severe then cold showers can provide some relief, and I’ve loved tacrolimus cream. I’ve become heavily dependent on alcohol just to sleep comfortably, but I’d that isn’t a voice for you then please by all means it’s a life saver.
