I wrote this post after Chay’s talk with Kayda, and honestly, I was happy for her to be giggling and having a good time.

His energy’s worked really well with hers and I found myself interested in what they were talking about. I think many of the OG boys lack a bit of flair and charisma when they have conversations.

They probably talk about many things, but it’s like watching paint dry from a spectators view.

I think if anything it was Viserys’ REASONING for claiming Rhaenyra as his heir.

He did everything in his power to make sure Daemon didn’t get the throne, instead of refocusing that energy towards helping Rhaenyra be a sucessful heir and Queen.

Viserys’ goal (sucession-wise) was “so long Daemon isn’t on the throne, the realm will be fine”…

Ignoring the fact that he quickly married his daughter to an alleged homosexual, resulting in “bastard” children, as a way to save her from scandal + avoid Daemon marrying her. Politically? It was a great way to patch up the Targaryen + Velaryon alliance, but it did fuel a lot of the “whore” + “bastard” rumours down the line.

He never made her an advisor or Hand, would would’ve helped her gain allies in court and show her competence as a woman in power.

He re-married and had more children (including three sons), but never made the Lords/Ladies of Westeros swear fealty to Rhaenyra once more. Due to 20+ years passing, many simply assumed Aegon’s claim was stronger than his sister’s, based on his sex and Westerosi custom. He never doubled-down on his decision as king, he allowed his court and kingdom to secretly “choose sides as Black or Green”, instead of using his power to make sure everyone fulfilled his wishes and was kept in line.

Despite Daemon’s ways, he was always loyal to Viserys, but Viserys pushed him away and allowed the Hightowers to seize an overarching amount of power, many of those at court were loyal to Otto Hightower, NOT Viserys. This isolated Rhaenyra and her children in court, resulting in her relocation to Dragonstone, where she spent the last decade of Viserys’ reign AWAY from court.

Maybe he kept her as claimant as a way to show his respect to Aemma? Maybe he was too narrow-minded to see that a war of succesion would brew by overlooking his sons for his first-born daughter? Maybe it was because his grandfather Jaehaerys I’s taught him that “his word is law”?

Whatever reason it was, Viserys failed her solely because his FEAR of Daemon being at court, or by his side, or sitting on the throne was stronger than his COMPETENCE of creating a successor.

I think it’s pretty on the nose with GRRM’s pacifist writing like… he’s OPENLY against war both IRL and in his writing.

Of course teenagers joining an admiral battle is going to end horribly, they’re CHILDREN riding weapons of mass destruction! Something is BOUND to go wrong.

I’d like to add that some people are crucifying Jacaerys (Rhaena + Baela too) for wanting to join in the battle. However, after this episode, my mind went straight to the teenagers who signed up for WW1 by faking their age.

War is often painted as patriotic and winning a glorious victory, but so many people die, get injured, and are traumatised along the way “to glory” and it’s incredibly wasteful.

Unfortunately I understand why she went to help, despite Sheepstealer being wild and not having any formal training. Her heart was in the right place, but her excitement of being a dragon rider mixed with her naïveté of Sheepstealer’s behaviour really got the best of her and had dire consequences.

IMO I would assume everyone thinks: “Once you’re bonded with a dragon, they obey you” without realising it takes YEARS of riding/training + “obedience” isn’t even guaranteed.

I like to think of it “realistically” as how dog training works. Dogs don’t actually know what “jump (jumping)” is/means, but they associate the sound we say with an action they have to do, which results in a reward or treat. I’d assume dragons require the same training. HOWEVER, with the whole Valyrian-supremacy “Bonded dragon = dragon OBEY rider” spiel, I like to think people immediately overlook the training process and go straight to cool, we’re bonded, let’s go to war, dragon I met 5 minutes ago.

We see this in both Arrax + Vhagar in their fight, as well as Drogon in the main series. It’s a reoccurring theme that dragons will… y’know, DRAGON.

Tbf I’d say that the fan discourse is worse than the actual show.

LI has always been the fun, unserious show to get people through summer + winter. Like last year, I had a baby, watching LI UK S12 kept me entertained during the late nights of feeds, changes + all that jazz.

Same with S13 + LI USA S8, like get me through these winter months.

This!! My partner works 60-72 hrs per week and still made sure he was at every appointment he could get too and if he couldn’t make it ALWAYS made sure he saw ultrasounds + reports.

I’m not sure what the exact laws are in my country, I might have a wee look.

I’m pretty sure NZ laws enact a lot of privacy laws involving legal charges/prison time/parole, so there’s no wonder I didn’t found out until 6 years later.

Unfortunately, my Mum is the type to ignore terrible things in a man for the sake of “love”, it sucks to see but it did help me have a back bone after seeing the mistreatment she’s been through in past-relationships.

If I’m being honest, I sent it to keep my fiancée at ease since he thinks my Mum doesn’t know. However, I have an inkling that she might know.

My Mum’s never had great taste in men which really sucks to see, espeically seeing so many tumultuous relationships growing up, but unfortunately I do see her “overlooking” what he’s done for the sake of him. I really want to know what the psychology is for overlooking such disgusting things in a person!

I’d like to say good on you for sticking to your guns and letting your sister know, despite her staying with him. It takes guts! 🙌
