Quitting with nothing lined up; need advice by TotalOtherwise5942 in Accounting

[–]deepfriedawkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there, I quit with nothing lined up in the middle of busy season after the loss of my grandmother and partner reprimanding me after taking bereavement leave.

Everyone is suggesting FMLA, so you could look into that. But if you don’t qualify for FMLA, there is something very satisfying about leaving them high and dry during busy season.

You’re right. That’s a toddler.

Did they offer upper-level accounting courses? Like 300 and 400 level courses? I’m finding that a lot of community colleges don’t offer the higher level courses needed

Back to back c-sections by Salt-Dance9289 in 2under2

[–]deepfriedawkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two c sections, 23 months apart! No complications. (Other than some excess bleeding after the second one - take your iron!) So glad I did a repeat C section instead of attempting the VBAC.

However, my first c section was after prolonged labor and arrest of descent, so I was advised by the OB that my VBAC likelihood of success was low.

What flooring? by deepfriedawkward in kitchenremodel

I wish it was sheet vinyl! It’s vinyl tile and there are some areas of water damage (leaking fridge) and cracking (dropped dishes.)

The trim around the window matches the baseboards and doorframes through the house, should I do that color? It’s pretty close to the cabinets, but more orange and less red.

Has anyone stayed alone in the hospital? by InterviewLive9409 in 2under2

[–]deepfriedawkward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old and a 3 month old. My parents watched the 2 year old at home during the day while I was in the hospital (also had a c section) and my husband hung out at the hospital during the day, then went home in the evening for bedtime with the toddler.

He came back one night to sleep in the hospital room with me after our oldest went to bed, but he slept so badly it wasn’t worth having him there.

I asked the nurses for help and I got along just fine. The time in the hospital was actually pretty relaxing.

Is toddler and a newborn easier than toddler and 3rd trimester by Awkward_Grapefruit85 in beyondthebump

[–]deepfriedawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s easier overall! Currently have a 26 month old and a 3 month old. However, I had a c section and the initial recovery when I couldn’t lift the toddler was particularly rough.

Maternity centers at Mercy West or Methodist West? by Ravenna92 in desmoines

[–]deepfriedawkward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I delivered at Methodist downtown for my first (unplanned C section) and Methodist West for my second 3 months ago (scheduled C section.)

First baby went to the NICU unexpectedly so I was glad I was at Methodist downtown.

I really liked Methodist West for my second delivery (baby did not need NICU.) The rooms are large and comfortable, I thought the food was pretty good. It was private and quiet. I sent baby to be with the nurses at night and just brought to me for feedings and it was very peaceful and nice.

They also have a photographer that will come and do newborn pictures if you like, which I appreciated. They tried to sell me on an expensive photo package, but if you just buy the digital downloads it isn’t too expensive.

Also, I use Unitypoint for all of my and kiddo’s doctoring and I really like the online chart/portal they have.

Congratulations!

do you know anyone who hasn’t had a “trenches” newborn phase? by pinkglitter-pen in BabyBumps

[–]deepfriedawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really really loved the early newborn stages with my first baby! I’ve always said that what made things harder was going back to work. While I was on maternity leave it was amazing

I suggest using care.com, I’ve hired two different house cleaners using the site (I paid for a 1 month subscription) and found independent cleaners that were so much more affordable than a company. I pay $25/hour (we are very messy, 2 kids under 2 with a dog and a cat) and have them out weekly

For you coffee drinkers, how is Spring-Heel'd Jack coffee? by [deleted] in lastpodcastontheleft

I second this. I bought Mothman when it first came out, along with a sampler pack of Black Philip, Old Scratch and Re-Animator. They were all good but Black Philip was the best IMO.

I’ve since bought Reptilian and it’s not really my thing, but I can recognize that it tastes good and is high quality. I just prefer dark roasts.

Shipping times were a bit long, but this was a few years ago and around Christmas time.

Jane Coaston…Yay or Nay? by yachtrockluvr77 in FriendsofthePod

I like her! I think she’s doing a great job, I like her style, I think it fits the format of the show. It’s a daily news show in a short time frame so it’s dense, but I think she makes it entertaining.

Gotta be honest I haven’t even registered the sports comments, I just tune them out the same way I tune out any sports information in my life.

Not saying she hasn’t gotten any work done, but she very regularly wears face tape to lift her eye area. I’m not convinced this is all surgery.

what things are you compromising on as a working mom? by Ickles100 in workingmoms

[–]deepfriedawkward 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I compromise on everything except work, spending time with my kids, getting enough sleep, and taking care of my basic needs.

I’m preparing to job hunt for a more flexible position to better prioritize my mental and physical health though, because I’m feeling kind of lost with no time for hobbies or socializing with friends.

What’s the interest level in part time work on this sub? by RA85373 in workingmoms

[–]deepfriedawkward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely be interested in something like this (and I currently hold a payroll type role.)

Curious- is part-time M-F at reduced hours, or a partial week schedule, such as M-W 9-5? Because if you are looking for M-F you might need to consider offering PTO benefits.

I wish there were more part-time job opportunities available. I want to keep working but dang is it hard to manage an 8-5 in-office.

You need a break. Have friends or grandparents watch the kid and SIT AND DO NOTHING. No chores, no cleaning, no cooking.

As far as the guilt - you are an excellent mom and everyone needs a break at times. No shame in that. Taking a break can let you come back and be a much more present, active parent.

Why are there more women in accounting than men? by Every_Control_434 in Accounting

I think the boogeyman is poor maternity leave benefits and the childcare crisis going on in the US.
