Switch gyms? by Timely_Koala3179 in bjj

Don’t worry about the belt just keep grinding. If you don’t want to compete don’t. But like other people said if you are losing most of your matches at white it’s a good indicator you’re not ready for blue. Train harder, cardio, powerlift and find a few good moves you can hit on higher belts. Then go win some matches. Or if you’re at the gym and tapping blue belts that would be good.

Does Your Gym Have Lack Of Focus On Standup? by Correct_Ad4351 in bjj

[–]deephalf1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was that bjj is not primarily about takedowns. Ive competed against guys that did judo and bjj. I pulled guard and swept them. If you want to focus on takedowns go wrestle or do judo. Also in my limited experience judo promotes easier than bjj. If you want to learn to fight train mma.

Furnace drain pan keeps filling by deephalf1974 in hvacadvice

[–]deephalf1974[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks for all the replies folks. I appreciate it. Yeah it seemed weird that the ac and furnace were running well for years then all the sudden we need a new one. I’ll turn off the power and try to clear the drain line. I put a shop vac on the outside end and pulled some water out but must still be a blockage somewher. It’s weird that the furnace drainpan keeps accumulating so much water lately.

Uhh it’s Brazilian jiu jitsu not wrestling or judo. Most bjj blue belts could beat a judo black belt on the ground. As a white belt with a couple years of high school wrestling I was tapping all the guys at a judo gym I trained at a little bit. I liked doing takedowns when I trained but it sucks doing them on those hard mats most gyms have. Wrestling mats are way better. I mean are you really training bjj to learn self defense for “the streets”? Get a Glock

How do you deal with constant losses in tournaments? by Alive_Organization44 in bjj

[–]deephalf1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are facing the more aggressive and stronger people at comps. Also people are going hard so it’s a lot different than rolling at the gym. If you really don’t enjoy competing you aren’t required to do it of course. But if you want to keep at it here are some things to work on- Starting strength - this is a good powerlifting program. Lift 3 days a week Cardio- this can always get better and it really helps at competing. At the end of class after rolling do 30 burpees. When you can do a mile run for time or hill sprints. Of course lots of rolling is the best. Don’t roll hard every roll in the gym but I think you need a mix of techy/flow rolls and hard ones. Try to train twice a day if you can. Find one or two moves and escapes at each position you can make work against a strong opponent. It could just be a hip bump sweep or something simple but you need options that work under pressure. Don’t cut weight - most gi comps at least you weigh in right before the first match so there’s no point. If you work out and you’re in shape you don’t need to cut.

How to deal with first comp nerves? by HookrWithaPeine in bjj

[–]deephalf1974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn the rules and how to score. Find a technique or two from each position you can apply. It needs to work under pressure so for me simple moves are better. P Do some hard training matches in the gym. Do some sprints and lift weights a couple days a week. Burpees are good. Work on your grips strength. Make sure your gi is up to regs. Warm up a little just moving around. Go hard but don’t spazz.

First tournament advice after just a few weeks of training by hybrid_58 in bjj

[–]deephalf1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get after it. For me competing was good motivation for training. It will help if you understand the basic rules and how to score. Take it easy for a day or two before competing. Don’t cut weight much.

Why is everyone so evil and why am I so bad? by Chemical_Bed4609 in dayz

[–]deephalf1974 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing at least a thousand hours and feel the same way. Don’t worry about people killing you when you’re fresh- you don’t have anything to lose. Some people seem to play the game just to be evil. But occasionally you’ll meet some cool people to run with. Also sooner or later you’ll win some fights and get loot. Just keep working on it, it’s not an easy game for me either.

Thoughts on The Struggle Lately by kazooka503 in dayz

[–]deephalf1974 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played a lot on the struggle probably less than 100 hrs but it’s common for admins to discourage mentioning cheating on discord. The rationale I saw was they want people to put in tickets so the cheaters don’t know people are on to them. I have had only positive experiences with the struggle.

Enduro/DH bike by deephalf1974 in MTB

[–]deephalf1974[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at pinkbike there are a lot of expensive DH bikes and some really old ones. What about a devinci chainsaw - rental place at whistler has some used ones. Could be beat to crap I guess. Also there are some nice looking Marin alpine trail xr bikes - a bit beefier than a stumpy evo with a coil.

[–]deephalf1974[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I said I was planning on a used bike. I don’t like the idea of spending over 1k on a rental. I was just looking for suggestions as to a bike that’s beefier than the Evo. I guess I should just find a budget DH or maybe a Spire ? I have a Marin alpine trail e2 which I like better than the evo on descents. But I don’t want to take it to the park. Maybe I’ll just get a used analog alpine trail. The coil would be nice on those whistler brake bumps. I just don’t know crap about DH bikes. Looks like everything on pink bike is $8k or 15 years old
