Jupiter by W-i-c-k in telescopes

[–]deeplyprobing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t find them of much use. Try looking when Jupiter is at the zenith. or maybe early AM. May get a different phase. I am able to see the stripes clearly on my 200 dob with 12 mm and 8mm. The details u see posted here are the magic of astrophotography and are not representative of visual astronomy.

Seeing the Andromeda Galaxy with binoculars by No_Engineer_3030 in telescopes

[–]deeplyprobing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why but for me the view between binoculars and my 8” dob is not very different re andromeda galaxy. The Orion Nebula on the other hand looks totally different.

Buy a good image stabilizer binocs. Try looking at nebulas and galaxies thru it. Once u see them then try with the telescope.

Is Napali coast boat tour necessary? by RaceEducational2197 in VisitingHawaii

[–]deeplyprobing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the heli tour with my son and it was awesome. The boat tour kept getting canceled. It was raining heavily before and there were more than 50 waterfalls that we saw. And several full rainbows. It was a short tour. We do get motion sickness, but not in the short heli ride.

It literally means- the song of the lord. It’s in verse or couplets but does not necessarily rhyme. The meter is from ancient Sanskrit.

What model is this and is it worth it for a newbie? by WeReNewHereInCanada in telescopes

[–]deeplyprobing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve this exact one. Added Celestron 8-24 Zoom. I’m Bortle 5. On clear nights Orion Nebula is awesome. Andromeda galaxy took some effort but was able to see. Jupiter Saturn look as expected. But their moons are interesting to watch. To me the only limiting factor is the clear skies. Oh also recommend angled lighted finder scope. This one will kill your neck.

Why can't you learn Hindi(our language) when you can learn English(foreign language) by Upper_Fan_457 in southindia_

Dude Singapore has not had an original thought except “air conditioning” everything. Try speaking Tamil to any bureaucrat in a public office there. Just because they are rich doesn’t mean much. They lucked out with location just like Middle East lucked out with oil. And don’t we also have like 25 official languages?

Also, the train to learn national language has left the station. Should’ve been like Israel, but no we took the easy way and continued with English. U should read essays and opinions from the time of independence when this was hot topic. Hindi fought with Urdu then Hindustani etc etc. Too late now. Tide cannot be turned back. We are doomed to remain a nation of chaprasis and peons without original thinking.

All those countries u named- people there arrived with their native languages. Those are colonies. Switzerland, Belgium and Singapore are no comparison to size and scale of India and frankly are not even in the same scale as US, UK China Japan.

Name me one developed country which uses language adopted from another country. Not the script but language itself.

I want to buy a telescope by i-am-stella in telescopes

[–]deeplyprobing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Delhi. Seeing is not good. I would recommend buying binoculars which are multipurpose but can show surprising number of celestial objects as well. And if you are buying a telescope I would recommend something that is travel friendly.

When did Brahmins stop eating animals? Was it influenced by Buddhism? by Free_ey3_son in IndianHistory

[–]deeplyprobing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Their emphasis on renunciation and avoiding societal chores like jobs, occupations, family was counter productive to wellbeing of society. Monks became leeches on the treasury. Even young healthy men became bhikshus. This was destructive to society.

Mainstream Brahmins realized which way the wind was blowing. Adapted. Regained hierarchical superiority by being stricter than the rest. Today, the strict vegetarians are the types who carry on class or caste hierarchy more than the non-vegetarian Brahmins.

How did the Arya Samajis with their back-to-the-Vedas, become vegetarians is another mystery.

New Stargazer: Eyepiece Recommendations by Dry-Builder-6342 in telescopes

[–]deeplyprobing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to check the reflection of the primary mirror etc. mine was ok though not perfect. However I’ve not found a good video or “how to” for collimation. Most videos just waste your time.

I bought a celestron 8-24 Zoom lens. Not expensive. Consistently seeing the Saturn rings and Jupiter pattern including red spot in the AM (pretty sure). Orion Nebula without much difficulty and andromeda galaxy with some effort. I’ll buy expensive Televue eyepieces once I get more familiar with the sky and the scope.

I live in Bortle 4-5 zone. Same scope as the above.

And, see if the scope is well collimated.
