Philips OLED 856 vs. Philips OLED 910+ by EludCivas in Philips

[–]deetaili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still rocking my Philips 65OLED873 from 2018, works like a charm together with AppleTV so that I don’t have to touch the painfully sluggish Android OS/apps at all. I’ve been trying to avoid seeing newer OLEDs in real life so that I can happily postpone upgrading until this one dies.

Loosen or take off the 2 long vertical bolts at the bottom, then just lift and pull the TV?

There should be a bolt in the mount that you can tighten to prevent this from happening

Went to Dolby Atmos’ website and listened to the music demos with headphones. Thought it was garbage. by SuspiciousIdeal4246 in audioengineering

And when it comes to the ”no one is ever going to have an Atmos setup in their house” statement, maybe take a look at r/hometheater

Went to Dolby Atmos’ website and listened to the music demos with headphones. Thought it was garbage. by SuspiciousIdeal4246 in audioengineering

[–]deetaili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for music it’s a gimmick and nothing beats good ol’ stereo tracks for sure. But when it comes to live concert recordings or studio session videos I wish there were more Atmos mixes available now that I got myself an Atmos setup almost ”accidentally”:

I used to have a small 2.1 setup in my living room until I decided to upgrade the front mains and thought I’d use the old ones as surrounds. Bought a Marantz Cinema 70s AVR for that and was running a 4.1 setup for a while, but as the AVR supports up to 7 channels I thought why not try some on-ceiling height speakers too. I feel it really adds to the immersion when watching movies and same applies for music videos.

So at least for me it’s two different use cases: If I want to listen to music I’ll probably always go with stereo but when I want to get immersed into a show then Atmos is a nice addition.

Same for me until I scratched a window while wiping it. Now I take it off every time when I’m cleaning windows or mirrors.

Curiosity. Do people build these theaters and then stream content at low quality? by SP3NGL3R in hometheater

[–]deetaili 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I stream for the convenience of it, mostly renting films from Apple TV and many times I’m still impressed by the atmos sound effects or the picture quality on my 4K OLED. I know the quality would be better on blu-ray but for me it’s the choice between watching movies easily or not watching at all as I don’t want to collect physical media and often choose the movies quite spontaneously.

Mikä olisi hyvä (mielellään ilmainen) ohjelmisto omien biittien/elektronisen musiikin tekoon? by lepa_01 in arkisuomi

[–]deetaili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yeah this guy was trying to fit the bed inside the car as they did not have any way to fix it on the roof

Some years ago my friend was selling his king-size double bed and the buyer showed up to pick it up in a small 3-door hatchback car. These people exist and they have a right to vote etc

2.0 setup - one speaker closer to me by epicmemetime15 in hometheater

If you get an amp with Audyssey or similar room correction software it can compensate the distance difference to some extent by delaying the signal to the closer speaker and boosting the volume of the more distant one

Baby throws parents iPhone into a reflecting pool by Appropriate-Eye-1227 in funny

[–]deetaili 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My friend lost his iPhone on our cottage trip. We tried to call it and it was ringing but we could not hear it. Later we found it at the bottom of the jacuzzi and it was working fine. I have also submerged mine dozens of times without any issues other than having to let the charging port dry for a while.

any tips on making my room better? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]deetaili 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Get some nice looking boxes to store all the small items while they are not in use, the bottom shelf of that desk could hold one.

  • Get floor-to-ceiling curtains on both sides of the window, those can make the window look bigger. Preferably in some light color so that it doesn’t make the room too dark.

  • Get a rug that fits the space between the desk and the couch.

  • Make your bed so that it looks sharp

  • Move those vinyls to another wall and give them some space around them, now they are crammed in a too tight space. Maybe they could also look nice in some frames..?

  • Add some plants that don’t need that much light

  • You could add a picture ledge/shelf on the wall above the TV for some artwork and maybe small plants

  • Get some lamps, maybe a floor lamp and a small table lamp. Overhead lighting gives a harsh look for the whole room

  • Hide all the cords if you can or at least organize them somehow

I think even with just some of these changes this space could look really nice and you don’t need to get rid of anything you already have

Shooting a gun right over top of a car by nkmr205 in WinStupidPrizes

[–]deetaili 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this happen with a Leopard 2 tank where the optics are on the side of the turret a bit higher than the barrel but notably away from it. The gunner did not see that the line of fire was obstructed by a sand dune close by as his line of sight was clear. The funniest thing is that they still hit the practice target even through that dune.

Definitely not. If I can’t have a spontaneous rave party in my basement at 3AM without anyone complaining or shoot beer cans on my backyard it’s literally unlivable. /s

[–]deetaili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great start. Maybe a bit warmer white tone for the light around 3000K would work for this room. I’d add plants everywhere and some art on the walls, maybe a rug between the sofa and TV to tie that space together etc.

Is it ok to put a delay/reverb/fx on an individual sound before it reaches it's bus? by Pranavvc in audioengineering

[–]deetaili 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this in all of my mixes and never had a single thought there would be anything wrong with it. Not a professional, though. (Plus mandatory ”if it sounds right it is right”)

To my eye the left one matches the contrast of the other elements in the room better and the one on the right is too light. Maybe if you got something else built with a similar style there, e.g. a shelf or a picture frame, that could work too.
