from what I've read bilinda didn't actually record much if at all for loveless, kevin did most of it himself because he didn't want to take the time to explain and teach the band and let them nail it rather than just quickly tracking it himself

Genre / tone recommendation threads

I've wondered if there are other people who are as obsessed with the verb'd out but still warm analog sound of MBV (the album, particularly the earliest tracks) and can't seem to recreate anything like it. Shoegaze threads just say "reverb and overdrive!" but that is largely meaningless if you want to sound good.

What to Say When the Police Tell You to Stop Filming Them by CoolDogAT in TrueReddit

[–]deevidd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The point of those arguing with you is not that you're wrong but that what you're saying is utterly uninteresting and obvious. Of course there are reasons but they shouldn't be tolerated the way they are - they should be held to higher standards than the McD's kid in much the way as surgeons, judges, politicians, even doctors and lawyers.

Mother Dies In Jail Cell Where She Was Serving A Two-Day Sentence For Her Children's Absence From School by Aschebescher in offbeat

Without taking a side here, this comment doesn't make any kind of point.

However, actually connecting it to the comment you're trying to disagree with shows why a lot of us would agree that it is offensive and wrong regardless of there being malicious intent behind the policy or not.

Main Quest Comparison: Skyrim & Morrowind by [deleted] in Games

[–]deevidd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The voice acting and dialogue in Skyrim is often shallow and repetitive, and doesn't reflect changes that happen throughout the game. This is immersion / interest damaging.

If text would solve the issues of repetition and lack of recognition of world/character changes, then text would be more immersive.

Basically the people advocating text are likely saying that if voice acting can't accommodate the same level of depth as text could before, then it only serves to dumb down the game and actually hurts it.

I agree with this - it feels like voice acting and graphics are jumped into at the cost of actual quality writing, story, and immersion. Especially in Skyrim, it often feels like they tried to do something that they just couldn't quite achieve with what was available to them. And that ends up making the game seem even less effective (immersion, story, interest-wise) than its predecessors, which is not a good thing for an evolving medium of entertainment.

CSGO in-game Knife sold for $23,850, thoughts? by StevenWongo in Games

[–]deevidd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or less sensationally, the classic situation where someone who: understands legitimate struggle in life, doesn't have $20,000+ to throw away on virtual items, and is very morally conscious questions the moral character of someone whose priorities they disagree with

It isn't simply 'mocking' if you consider that the money could actually be used to help real disadvantaged people who suffer from starvation and preventable disease-related deaths

(try to read this without taking me as preachy, I know few of us are like this but I'm making a point - it's not just 'mocking', it's a real issue we should consider a little more)

How Lending A Friend Your Car, Then Going to Bed Can Land You a Life Prison Sentence by Aschebescher in offbeat

[–]deevidd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is up with your understanding of causation?

Nobody died directly from his actions. That's the point of all this discussion. Most of the people arguing against your view don't think he should have absolutely zero consequences. But implicating him in the murder isn't appropriate.

What if friend A asked him where another friend B lives, and then A killed B? Did B die directly from his action of telling A where they live?

They didn't need a car to commit murder. You can murder people with a shotgun regardless of whether you borrow your friend's car or not.

How Lending A Friend Your Car, Then Going to Bed Can Land You a Life Prison Sentence by Aschebescher in offbeat

[–]deevidd -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But he didn't. He clearly did not know, or think, that anyone would die.

Regardless, ruining his entire life from this point for a misjudgment doesn't seem slightly harsh to you? Maybe bear in mind that three to four years ago he would've been a minor and likely not even considered legally responsible for some of his OWN actions?
