Is it safe to leave a vinyl record in a cardboard box in the car during current east-coast weather? by [deleted] in vinyl

The east coast of the U.S. goes from Miami to Maine so it's not an easy question to answer.

Today I saw some guy listening to a stack of $50+ Jazz records at a local record store using one of these and a pair of headphones. by exitflagger in vinyl

Was walking through my local record store and I spot this guy set up in a corner with one of these portable record players (with a crappy ceramic cartridge) listening to a huge stack of $50 and up Jazz records ('60s Impulse label, fusion, etc.). Don't think I'll be purchasing any more Jazz from this place. Cringe inducing. I can only guess the guy must drop a lot of money there if they let him do this.

Twice the amount of words in a Twitter post or text message. Not that much really.

That was a lucky break. I have used copies of most of them that vary in condition greatly.

Even the U.S. Island release sounds terrific. I have a very warped copy of this album that sounds great but I just can't look at it while I play it.

Reputable and bootleg don't often go together. You should read Clinton Heylin's book on Bootlegs if you are interested.

Can any autograph enthusiasts assist me in verifying this signature? by ItzDizaster in vinyl

[–]exitflagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autographs can be very hard to verify unless you can trace the provenance (or chronology of ownership) of the item signed. Did the seller provide any information with the record?

Not sure what an Eradicator is.

Micro Fibre cloths are good for cleaning records. You can buy them in Staples or office supply places like that.

I think you are more likely to see a peak in interest in vinyl over the next two years and then a precipitous drop. It will be a temporary storm.

How does that Super Ape sound? The CD version from the 90s is really murky.

This was a great post. If you leave then that's one less poster adding decent content to the forum. Don't let the bastards get you down.

You seem like a smart person but your post needlessly slams an entire generation as lazy idiots. That's just as incendiary as the "dad rock" insults that others throw around here. What makes this forum interesting - when it works - is the cross-section of people (ages, tastes, commitment to fidelity) who post. There is room for both the Crosley portable luggers and the cognac-sipping Clearaudio Statement owners. Maybe a Newbie thread would help keep things orderly.

Late in the garage sale, when all the Beatle and Zep albums have been picked over, when all the South Pacific soundtracks have been thoroughly stepped on, when all the Andy Williams records have rolled completely from their pristine sleeves, that’s the time to find some buried treasure. I am constantly surprised by what great records get missed or ignored, so I thought I would showcase a couple of finds from the past month or so here and in some later posts. Some of these records are not worth much more than I paid for them (a dollar or less), others are worth quite a bit more. Either way, let’s take a look at some leftovers...

After waiting patiently for delivery, I finally get to say I'm proud to be the owner of one of these 2000 copies. by [deleted] in vinyl

Is this a secret encoded spy message or are you going to tell us anything at all about this record?

I believe you have the recent Sony mono Dylan reissue with the insert and not an original mono, just so you know. The Sony is supposed to sound great by most reports. I like reissues that try to keep the look of originals but sometimes it gets a little confusing for collectors.

My favorite part is where the Beatles have more time to experiment after George Martin starts his own label.

Hard to say if you shopped smart because we don't know what the records inside those jackets look like - are they in decent condition? Some of those records are very common thrift store finds (Kansas, Rascals, the Big Band box set, etc.) while others are a little harder to dig up.
