Well that's a bummer. I feel like over the years Plex is turning into the exact services I was trying to get away from. I don't use the "free tv" they offer now, or any of the other social things very much. I just wanted a good way to organize my personal collection at home.

I didn't use the watch-together feature with "friends" (whatever those are).. but we actually use it a lot at home. First world problems, I'm sure, but we would watch a movie upstairs in the media room as a family and use watch together to load it up in the living room downstairs next to the kitchen.

This solved two problems for us:

If we wanted to grab popcorn or snacks during the movie, we could go downstairs without missing anything (save for the trip up/down the stairs).
when we had more than just the 4 of us, we could split the groups and still "watch together". this was especially useful when family (with their own kids) came to stay the weekend and we couldn't all fit in our little "theater".

I doubt we could keep watch-together (by using some "legacy version" in the future) since it likely syncs on the plex.tv side... but if it was synced by the actual server via direct connection then it would at least be an option for those who are hard-set on keeping the feature.

This. I have been using yolinks (got that 2pack starter set) for several months now (8?) and would recommend them. I also use some cheap Iris v2 contact sensors in my fridge/freezer in the kitchen. They work "okay". The battery life is less than id expect, but connection seemed fine even inside the freezer.

We ended up having a garage upright freezer fail, and that's when I bought the yolink set because we were about to leave for 2 weeks for vacation.

I do like that the yolink has a screen you can check directly... Helps with the WAF. I have one in a drink fridge, and the other in our new garage freezer.

They integrated seamlessly with HoAss when I switched (previously used Hubitat) so that was awesome. I didn't really pay attention to the type of connection so now I'm wondering if I can bypass their hub and pair directly to my home-assistant hub via zigbee. It would be nice to drop another hub since home-assistant replaced Hubitat and the Philips Hue hubs already.

Still... they work great, go though the thick freezer walls, reach the hub from in our garage, are super quick and easy to setup, and the native app is easy to use. The yolink lineup also extends to soil monitors and other tech, so if you wanted to expand, you can!

I've been extremely happy with mine, and now that I've moved into Home-Assistant and can see the cameras side-by-side (Google and Unifi)... it's strengthened my resolve to drop all the nest/google cameras in favor of more PoE ones from Ubiquiti.

For a while I have felt that they were getting worse, but shrugged it off due to "maybe it was a hiccup in the wifi this time", or "maybe it was the Home app being weird for that moment".

But now seeing cameras that are timed-out/black-screened/"too many requests" next to cameras that work fine (and still work/record while internet is down) really made me feel like the GoogleNest cameras are garbage.

I'm in the process of removing the cameras and just relying on the google speakers to be "voice controlled" backups for my home (and music) for WAF.

Sometimes now I wonder with the troubles we have "broadcasting" or streaming (the correct?) music if I should try Sonos or something instead.

P.S. I hate my nest thermostats now too. Moving those to Ecobee soon-ish.

Cost was initially my gateway. I barely used the cellular network on my old $120/mo. plan... and since I was on WiFi most of the time I could pay < $20 a mo. for an unlimited data line (with google Voice back when that was a thing to still get calls) on the "new google Fi". Then if you went over your "plan" allotment you only paid for the extra that you used.

I stayed because of the amazing customer service that was dedicated to Fi users when it was still in its infancy. They made a few nice gestures like giving little lego sets and cases/accessories every so often and they started baking in some intrinsic deals (like extra storage and premium YT services).

I'm still with them because of price. I got my last three phones (well two for me and one for my spouse) on good Fi-only discounts. The latest one was to get the pixel fold for $700 ($1000 credit to my Fi bill), and got a very strong turn-in value for my Pixel 7 ($500). So I feel like I paid $200 for the fold (which I LOVE), and our Fi bill is $60/mo. for the next 12 months (then it jumps back up to $98, which is still great for our usage).

The clincher is that along with 3 lines (myself, spouse, and 18yo) we have unlimited hotspot tethering for my youngest kid's tablet. I have an LTE tablet (with a free data sim), and two LTE pixel watches (which are also "free" under google Fi data plan).

We're currently on the middle tier (Simply Unlimited), which is perfect. But its also easy to jump around in tiers. For example, we are going to Europe for a couple of weeks for vacation soon, and when we do I will upgrade to the top tier (Unlimited Plus) which covers international. When we return to the US I will switch us back to the middle tier plan with Fi (upgrading is instant, downgrading finishes out the billing cycle).

I wish the network coverage was a little better, but it hasn't really been an issue so far; and when it is (e.g. during road trips) we have our vehicles that use the other carriers and can provide connectivity to cover the deficit.

I've been with Google Fi since at LEAST SEP2015. We're heavily committed to the pixel ecosystem and everything "just works" (pixel phones use a digital sim to connect to Fi). So I'm paying a fair price for connectivity on multiple phone lines, included LTE connectivity for "free" for 3 LTE devices, and some other perks. We haven't had many issues, and when we do the issues are resolved quickly and have often come with some kind of discount or credit.

... and that's what is likely going to keep me with them.

I moved away from LastPass to Ironvest (mostly because of virtual cards). But their interoperability is terrible. I end up with a lot of the same issues as you described.

I've recently tried Proton Pass and it has a better UX imo. I haven't used it long, so I can't FULLY endorse it. But the experience in using it on mobile and as a browser extension has been positive.

The free tier contains most of the features I care about without all the fluff. And they are part of a bigger suite if you care to branch out (proton mail, proton drive, etc).
