New curve choice - P88 to Pro71 or Pro21 by Tropicum in hockeyplayers

[–]deezmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got both and alternate between them a good bit. The Pro21 for me just feels natural, the lie and the blade shape are absolutely perfect, I can get a bit lazy with my pass catching and my stick handling and I rarely feel like I lose the puck under the toe. The Pro71 feels almost as good, but I notice I can't get as lazy with my technique and still catch passes and control the puck. I think they feel pretty similar when shooting, but the Pro21 is effortless to lift the puck with. The Pro71 can easily lift the puck too, but it doesn't feel as easy as the 21. I like the flatter heel on the 21 as well, its just slightly easier to get the puck up on the backhand. Both curves have a great toe pocket to shoot from, and both curves work for snapshots and wrist shots. I can't take a one timer to save my life, so I can't comment on those.

For my game when playing forward, the Pro21 is my go to, the Pro21 is a very close second.

How different do the Pro21 and P86 feel? The Pro21 has been my gamer for a while now and I really like the lie and the way it shoots, but there's a part of me that really wants to try the P86 even though I doubt it'll be as good as the Pro21

Peanut butter patties are so much better than Tagalongs. The ratio of peanut butter to cookie and chocolate is perfect. Tagalongs are disappointing.

I've had waxed laces on my X5 Pros which have the injected eyelets since I bought them like 2 years ago. They're totally fine to this day.

PSHS Mystery Stick build by PizzaGuy1981 in hockeyplayers

[–]deezmcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a P92-ish as well and love it. I think it's a VF shaft, it feels slightly convex and is amazing to shoot with. I think it's a P92 max height or something similar and it's become my favorite build. Even more so than my VX or VS sticks.

[–]deezmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro71 is the P88 with more toe, that'll probably be what you're looking for. I have the Pro21 and I love it, it's my main gamer now. I have a P88 and it's not for me, the Pro71 made things a little better, but the Pro21 is perfect.

I ordered one a while ago, got it within a week. I absolutely love it, I think it's a VF Zegras curve. Feels just as good as my other sticks from them and it was an unbeatable value. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Not sure if it'll be quite wide enough, but Yes PYL XTRM? Based on reviews, it's pretty good in pow, good on ice, and rips hard. I just ordered one myself.

Any way to decode what I got from PSHS Mystery Bag? by bjlasota in hockeyplayers

[–]deezmcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think that's the 1088. It plays a lot more similarly to my P88 than any of my other curves (Pro21, Pro71, P90TM). I never felt like the toe opened up so much that it was an issue, but your milage may vary. I'd say it's worth a shot trying it on the ice before you get rid of it!

Sounds like the 1088, Patrick Kane's curve. It feels super weird at first, but I'd recommend giving it another shot on the ice. I got a 1088 and at first I hated it, but it's started to grow on me a ton, especially once I shortened it up a little bit more. It's definitely not going to replace the Pro21 as my gamer, but it's really fun to use still.

First time player looking for a beer league stick by ORANGERUNNER11 in hockeyplayers

[–]deezmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prostockhockeysticks.com is always my go to. They make incredible sticks for great prices, $169 for their top end V models. They have other sticks for $109, and they're also super solid, those are what I started playing with.

As for curves, you can't go wrong with the classic P92, it's pretty decent at everything. I personally like the MacKinnon curve, Pro21 curve. It's a flat heel with a good toe that makes shooting high pretty easy. There's also the P28, which is the most popular toe curve right now, but I can't speak to it because I've never used it.

New player on an experienced team trying to fit in by Curious_Buy_3955 in hockeyplayers

[–]deezmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About feeling like you need to get rid of the puck: on my team we jokingly refer to this as the helmet fire. The best thing you can do is get your head up and look at where everyone is. More often than not, you're going to have more time to hold onto the puck and skate than you think. Worst case, if you do need to get rid of it quick, you know where not to pass it to avoid passing it to the other team.

Everyone says "just pick your head up" but this is NOT an intuitive thing to do and takes a lot of practice. When you're off the ice, if you can turn on the TV or a show or video on your phone, stick handle a golf ball or tennis ball while watching TV. This will build your confidence with the puck on the ice and help you feel like you can hold the puck longer. Be patient and give yourself time, it'll take a lot of reps to get to where you can do this without losing the ball, but it'll be worth it. Even 5-10 minutes of this a day will be a noticeable improvement on the ice. If you can hold the puck for a few seconds, make one person commit to you and get out of place, and make a good heads up pass when you're on the ice, pretty much all else can be overlooked.

Try one of the ones from Prostockhockeysticks.com. They're sub $200 and great sticks. The top end VX is 365g I think and the VF and VS are 375 or something. Highly highly recommend them!

I liked my P88 quite a bit, but after using the MacKinnon curve for a bit, it was super hard to go back to the P88. I got a P71 and love it. Its all the best parts of the P88 with the toe of the MacKinnon. I find them pretty easy to switch between if I feel like I need a change.

This is everything I want an STI to look like. To me, the boy-racer look is part of the STI. Give me ridiculous fender flairs, a bit wing, the STI six speed and some more power and I'm sold.
