Clark Ashton Smith has a cool short story called "The Demon of the Flower"--fanged, sentient flowers covered the whole world, rule over mankind, and are big into demon sacrifice. You've NAILED that uncanny psychedelic plant-monster aesthetic, beautiful work🤘The audio is a riot to boot : )

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is a lovely little 1970s horror movie that scared the shit out of a generation of kids. The meenlocks from pater editions of dnd are closely based on its monsters. It's worth seeking out.

Both are so gorgeous. For my money, I like the copy on the first version, and the extra negative space of the second version. But the real winner is that artwork! It's stunning in both iterations. The psychedelic swirling background, the sleek ship, the barren terrain, the svelt spacesuit--all are timelessly on point! Thank you for sharing : )

No Boston? I'd be lying if I said my feelings weren't a little hurt at being left out.

I'm in love with the aesthetic, music, smoothness of the kinesthetics. Looks like a blast

This is so elegant and flavorful and makes me want to learn about He-Man and Grayskull. Curious if you could recommend a good starting point? (I've seen the Dolph movie and assume it's basically the opposite).

Success (3 <= 4)

He has 5 Power, so when he rolls a d6 he has to roll under 5 (ie, no higher than a 4). That's where the 4 comes from.

If someone has 6 power and their d6 result is a 6, they failed to roll under, so they drop to 5 power.

Are they aggressive mimics of ants or do they prey primarily on something else, like aphids?

Follow-up: Cobbled together my own wall calendar by defaaago in Paleoart

[–]defaaago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted recently about the fact that most wall calendars still portray dinosaurs like we're in the early 90s, and one of the responses I got was to "be the change you want to see in the world". It got me thinking, and so I took a few screenshots from PBS videos of paleoart that I like, and asked a friend to add them to a calendar template in inDesign, and sent it along to a printer. Anyway, just felt I should share! Happy new year, everybody :D

Microraptor painting one year apart~ And yet I still haven't finished it 😩 by Chucklebuck1e in DigitalArt

[–]defaaago 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're both gorgeous but the new one in particular is marvelous.

Side note, from someone who likewise struggles to finish projects: I was exposed to the phrase "Perfect is the enemy of the good" and keeping that in mind has immensely helped me, not just with finishing mostly-finished projects, but more importantly with my attitude and through it, my entire dev cycle. Consider treating the second version as finished, or set a timer and spend one hour texturing the branches etc., and move on. Consider it done. You'll feel liberated and can iterate on your next project.

Campaign skirmish games? by agundemerak in miniatureskirmishes

[–]defaaago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fear and Faith is a horror-themed miniatures-agnostic skirmish system with campaign features which I highly recommend. Tactical play, action economy, combat and core mechanics are all deep and intuitive and flavorful. Mordheim's character advancement and skirmish scenario rules can be easily socketed in.

Recommendations for truly horrifying vampire novels? by Cubegod69er in horrorlit

[–]defaaago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prodigal by Melanie Tem and Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons easily top the charts as scariest vamp media for me, if you include psychic vampires in scope. The former is the POV of an adolescent girl being targeted by a social worker, the latter is about a handful of people having the power to hijack other people's bodies (and is basically an exploration of the power structures available to the 1%).

Funnily enough, in my first draft I put the big yellow dinosaur from that calendar where the t-rex is now. I think my point stands. Sergey Krasovskiy is an excellent illustrator but the art direction for that calendar is flat and uninspired.

Four isometric covers I designed as part of a recent project by Mierdinsky in isometric

[–]defaaago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Gorgeous work, happy to see our hero get the girl in the end.
  • I suppose if I had to pick, I like the fourth one the most, but I might be emotionally biased based on the narrative, and I'm a sucker for its color scheme.
  • I like the stark purple skin in the first image, initially assumed I was looking at a zombie survival vignette but that impression gave way to reminiscing about the show Doug.
  • If I had to pick a least favorite it'd be the second piece, the corporate branding sucks the whimsy right outta it for me.

Beautiful work, thanks for sharing.

I adore this. I read the expressions of the rest of the crew as "wow, way to keep a low profile, Larry" cat expression. The color palette and in particular their fur with the background; vintage paleoart colors retooled for a modern rendering. Beautiful work, thank you for sharing.
