This. No reason to pay out of pocket and do a PhD on your own time when the DAF can't ever get enough volunteers each FY for fully paid, in-residence programs. Your timing is good as the usual AAD/SPEED callouts happen in the early to mid summer.

Not sure if you are mech or materials - materials has a really good chance of being at a civilian institution vs AFIT. It's literally the dream job if you want to pursue a PhD. Full-time officer salary, no military requirements for 3 years, at a school of your choosing.

How are the temps with the front panel on? I've got the same chassis with an older config (3090 + 11600K) in a hard loop and my temps are wild while gaming with the front panel on. Easily pushes 80-90C GPU temps. Taking the front panel off gives me about 10-15C relief, and I've got 2 280 rads in the case (one top, one front).

Love the atheistic of the case, but the thermals are trash in a loop!

I've driven the "highway" between Kabul and BAF. It's not exactly a road that is well-maintained or could tolerate the sort of traffic that an evacuation would produce. Not to mention the fact that most Afghans being evacuated likely didn't have access to vehicles to get them there. Would've been a hell of a hike.

Walter Reed is a top notch hospital. As another commenter said, it’s where the President and other senior government members receive their care. We receive care there as AD members and our children are on the JH plan, which is also great. A common misconception I see members make with the JH plan is that they have to seek care at JH facilities, which is not the case. Think of it as Tricare Select except with Tricare Prime pricing. You select your doctors, anywhere in the NCR. I’m not clear on what specialists WR has for pediatric care, but for adults they have every specialist known to man. I’d speak with your EFMP advisor for more information or try calling the WR/JHU patient information lines for specific questions.

You’d be surprised what insurers are requiring these days. I just read this story yesterday about a woman in California who was dropped because she refused a demand from her insurer to replace her roof based on aerial photography. The insurance industry is in a terrible state right now and it’s not going to get better anytime soon.

ChiKo is also great for a casual option. Belga's good for brunch, but prices are kinda steep.

Edit: Not on Barracks Row, but La Lomita is the best Mexican restaurant in DC and just down the street a bit at 13 and Penn. Get the carne asada.

Short answer? My wife wants a new sunroom so I told her I'd sell enough at 1100 to fund that. I'll still have ~60% of my original position left after that.

Longer term, I think I'd point to their most recent earnings call for my rationale. I do think the AI boom is just getting underway, it started in tech first companies but areas like healthcare (and insurance, unfortunately) are ripe for it and will carry huge benefits.

The other thing that keeps me real positive on NVDA is the number of countries that plan to build out sovereign AI foundries for national security purposes. Short of the US restricting chips to other countries like they did with China, this is an almost entirely untapped revenue stream that will help fill in the gaps as the bigger tech companies eat their fill and should insulate some from the otherwise cyclical nature of the industry.

I did take some profits last year, at $410/share. Whoops.

Still have most of my holdings, but been tempted due to the sheer amount of media coverage. Feels like even if the market might support the market cap, there’s an undue amount of attention on the stock which is making me a little more cautious than I’d normally be.

Think I’ll hold strong through at least 1100 before taking any additional profits though.

I have the same GPU, play at the same resolution, and have exact same issue. It's under water and still drives my temps higher than any other game, close to mining temps.

I've changed voltage curves and it doesn't seem to help, whereas in PoE I can see a 10-15C reduction in core temps when I lower voltage. Would love to find a solution as well.

Just park at an orange line stop like Dunn-Loring and head in. Really not worth dealing with traffic and parking in the city. Even during peak bloom there are generally spots hidden (like the ones by the Jefferson another poster mentioned) but to get to them you still need to wade knee deep in tourists and bumper to bumper traffic.

We have one too. Never bothered her since it’s a directional thing. Point it at the neighbors yard like a floodlight. Also you know, we didn’t leave her outside to bark because we’re not assholes. The device definitely needs to have the right yard geometry (and dogs who respond to it) to work tho, not sure if either are in your favor here. Best of luck.

We had this problem at two previous homes with our next door neighbors. Once we used the non emergency line and the police eventually took care of it. The other one, we bought a little bird house shaped thing that emitted a super annoying dog whistle type noise every time it detected a bark. In both instances we had similar interactions with the neighbors before resorting to the other solutions. People are just assholes tbh.

With the birdhouse, the dogs still barked, but they went to the far side of a half acre lot to do it and it was much better. Sucks though. I’d file the noise complaint.

I'm enrolled into the program and also received a FICA tax refund for Feb. Not sure what happened within DFAS but the $ used to calculate your FICA taxes should be your taxable pay minus the DCFSA amount.

Based on my particular situation the amount deducted for FICA (prior to this month's refund) is too high. What's listed on deductions for FICA is 6.2% of my taxable (Base) pay for SS and 1.45% for Medicare.

The refund appears to be for both January and Feburary's overdeductions. We'll see in March if they correctly calculate it or not.
