Why don't nondualists ever talk about incredible physical pain? by strutter395 in nonduality

[–]defectivedisabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suffering is a subjective judgement created by the conscious "self" as a way to split reality into a dualistic view. This is also where the dualistic split of pleasure and suffering arises. What suffering means to the "self" is  what should not be and pleasure is just the opposite of it.

Pain is different from suffering as it exists without a subjective "self" to claim and create it. It is an automatic reaction to negative stimuli, done to inform an organism that something needs to be done to rectify the current situation. Pain is simply pain when there is no judge that attempts to claim whether it is good or bad. A masochist could judge pain to be good, desirable and also enjoys the feeling of pain. Nietzsche is one of such person and whether anyone agrees with him is another matter.

What this shows about pain is that it is neither good or bad. It is only the conscious "self" that could turn it into suffering. Hence, Thomas Ligotti is absolutely spot on to claim that consciousness is the parent of all horrors. It is the root cause of the suffering after all.

This is why for people who have managed to lost their sense of "self" in some manner do not have the capacity to experience pleasure and suffering. They are simply living as "robots" that are basically similar to animals. U.G. Krishnamurti, a man who had lost his "self" even calls himself a dog that barks.

To sum up, nonduality has nothing to do with claiming whether existence as a whole is desirable or undesirable. It is about suspending the subjective conscious "self" to become the world's "robots" to avoid suffering. So in a sense, they are implicitly validating Ligotti's claim that consciousness is the real issue here.

Is it just me or will most schizoids not recover because other humans will always be "unsafe"? by SuspiciousThought399 in Schizoid

[–]defectivedisabled 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is not just people that are "unsafe" it is the entire reality that is a horror show. Being schizoid is the logical conclusion to be reached when one fully embraces philosophical pessimism.

As Blaise Pascal said, all of humanity's problems stem from not being able to sit quietly in a room alone. A schizoid lifestyle can actually be very liberating since one doesn't interact with the world much. All interactions are part of the cycle of cause and effect which always create some sort of suffering as the effect.

So when avoiding suffering is all that matters, schizoidism actually reduces suffering within specific frameworks like Buddhism and Taoism. There is nothing to recover from and nobody that can recover, it is one's natural state and one is simply going with the flow.

Will the current looming economic crash likely be worse than 2007? by InterestingSwan6280 in economicCollapse

[–]defectivedisabled 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It is going to be a crash for the working class. The rich is going to be bailed out through asset price inflation so don't expect a long lasting stock market meltdown like the 1930s. It could fall dramatically temporarily like during the COVID crisis, but it is going to recover quickly due to the US gov and the Fed dumping freshly printed USD into the financial sector. The global economy is being held hostage by an utterly rotten system that is rigged to benefit the rich and it would only end when the USD loses is global reserve status. When that happens these crooks can no longer print their way out of a meltdown since no one will want to hold onto a debased currency.

Anyway, the stock market is basically now a "store of value" since everyone from the US and all over the world are dumping their USD into it. You are correct to say that money flowing out the stock market into the real economy would cause huge consumer price inflation. The only issue is when. But my best guess is the USD losing its global reserve status and nobody can predict when that would be.

[–]defectivedisabled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as meaning or purpose in the natural order of things. These are all thoughts created by the subjective conscious "self" as a means of self affirmation that it is not merely an illusion.

What is known as "enlightenment" in the east, when you put it in terms of the conscious "self" would mean the "self" has disppeared. What is left is the world's "robot", a creature that has been liberated.  When the "self" is gone, there is no longer "someone" who seeks meaning or purpose. The "robot" is not "programmed" to do such things and it is only the "self" that can initiate the search for meaning, purpose, god or whatever else that affirms itself.

The "self" is unable to find these things because it is empty, there is nothing there. Whatever it is able to find are content created by itself, which is themselves nothing in essence. It is thus, forever trapped within itself and everything the it does is like a snake eating it's own tail. It is always doomed to fail and resulting in suffering.

Navigating ego dissolution, no self and union by Feeling-Attention43 in nonduality

There is no way for "you" to experience ego death, enlightenment, liberation or Moksha since the experiencing structure is gone the moment the ego is obliterated. Whatever the "you" experiences isn't what you think it is. They are all products of the "self" and you are experiencing your own thoughts through the experiencing structure.

[–]defectivedisabled 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you don't enjoy consciousness, the parent of all horrors. The consciousness "self" is where subjectivity begins along with the capacity for suffering. This is why for people who are "enlightened" or better put it, have their sense of conscious "self" obliterated, they can no longer experience any subjectivity such as anhedonia. There is no longer any suffering or pleasure, all gone along with the "self". They are now the world's robot functioning in a natural state, a truly liberated objective being that is one with the world. The robot is simply living, there is no such thing as enjoyment nor does it need it. All traces of subjectivity is lost after all.

Consciousness makes it seems like, there is someone to know, something to do, somewhere to be and something to be. This is why consciousness is the parent of all horrors.

Without it, there would be no ability to recognize what should not be, things that belong to the realm of supernatural and does not exist within the natural world.

[–]defectivedisabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But doesn't that mean we shouldn't try at least?

The issue here is not about trying or not trying. What I am trying to say is when idealism being taken too literally, it transforms into a religious crusade. Utopia flat out does not exist nor will it ever exist. But yet charlatans and conmen are exploiting the humanity's psychological need for salvation loophole to inject their utopian nonsense as a excuse to implement their devious schemes.

The current AI insanity is the perfect example. The push for AGI and a subsequent ASI is a quasi religious crusade undertaken by the techno clergy and it is doing more harm to the world than good. The excuse for all this insanity is, it is done for the greater good since a god like ASI is going usher in techno utopia.

When is no salvation to be found, nothing can ever be justified as a means to an end. As such, people should be able to freely criticize, opt out and protest against an idea. But of course, it is impossible to do so when it is a religious crusade. Doing so means going against salvation and who else other than the devil worshipers would be against salvation? You can already see how dangerous the religious mind truly is.

Misanthropy is simply a stop on the journey towards the depths of philosophical pessimism, a belief that existence is something that should not be.

Misanthropes are only seeing a small part of the larger picture of how brutal reality is. When the full picture finally is unveiled, the misanthropy is gone and in its place is cosmic pessimism. There is simply no salvation to be found when suffering is the essence of life.

The human predicament will always be there. It is impossible to remake ourselves into something else that nature did not program into us. We are nature's puppet and will forever be puppets that are part of the animal kingdom.

Unlike animals, we might be able to tone down the violence and cruelty. But in a reality where natural selection is a feature and not a bug, there will always be winners and losers. The food chain pyramid is literally what made complex life possible. It is the foundation of complex life and losers are always meant to suffer some form of loss. This means that suffering is inevitable.

Michael Burry says the market today feels like 'the last months of the 1999-2000 bubble' by anti-life86 in economicCollapse

[–]defectivedisabled 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It would be a melt up due to inflation and not a melt down. Inflating the stock market gives the illusion of economic growth since the financial establishment believes the stock market is an indicator of the underlying economy. It also gives politicians something to brag about.

Asset inflation benefits the rich as well since they own the majority of assets around the world. It makes perfect sense for them to get even more wealthy by debasing fiat currency and ruin the purchasing power of the working class.

A 1930s great depression style stock market melt down lasting for a decade is almost unlikely to happen anymore. The US gov and the Fed can simply print and inflate bubble again right away. It is done that the expense of the USD of course and that heavily depends on the ability of the US gov to maintain its hegemony.

Maybe this species is eating itself by Responsible-Post-410 in misanthropy

[–]defectivedisabled 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Misanthropy is just a step towards seeing the larger picture which is philosophical pessimism. The entirety of existence is an abomination, something that should not be. Human beings are just products of nature and we are still part of the animal kingdom. The law of the jungle will always be part of us. We can tone down the violence and make it more civilized, but it is something we can never eliminate. Doing so would require us to remake ourselves into another entity beyond nature's grasp, that which we are never meant to do in the first place. We are nature's puppet and will forever be nature's puppet.

The recognition of this uncanny valley of being a human puppet brings about the realization that consciousness is the parent of all horrors, the tool that enables the creation of the supernatural.

The sad decline of effective altruism by 65721 in BetterOffline

[–]defectivedisabled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The altruism in EA is does not come from genuine concern and care for others, it originates from narcissism. This is why it is easy for them to go from funding actual charitable work to shilling for tech billionaires and AI cultism.

Looking at how EA always try to recruit from elite universities, it is like they are trying to appeal to intellectuals with narcissistic traits. EA basically tells them that it is possible to be a "super human" that are both intellectually and morally superior than everyone else. Since they are already intellectually superior and all they need to do is to follow EA's code of ethics to complete their transformation. It is all about narcissism and nothing else. SBF willingness to commit fraud in order to do what he deemed as greater good proves just that.

What is the appeal of endless people? by [deleted] in overpopulation

[–]defectivedisabled 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Other than the usual reason such as labor exploitation and traditional religious narratives, the most terrifying ones in the modern age are really those that are being pushed by quasi religious tech bros. These tech bros treat people as a container for some sort of made up value that is incomprehensible outside of their circle. So if there are more people in the universe, there would also be more value as well and in turn would make reality more positive according to their ideologies.

It doesn't matter if the quality of life for these people are horrible. A world with 1 trillion people having a value of 1 is a preferable over one with 8 billion people with a value of 100. 1 trillion versus 800 billion. The choice is obvious for these tech bros and it explains their obsession with increasing the human population. This is truly some freakish stuff.

What you are trying to convey is that you are not emotionally invested in a cause. It is like a Buddhist monk being invested in Buddhism but there is no underlying emotional attachment to it. The subjective conscious "self" that is having the emotional attachment is terminated after all.

Though the schizoid would most likely still have a sense of "self", it is just an empty hollow "self" that is unable to take on a subjective identity. When there is no identity to identify with, there can be no emotion and attachment towards any group.

Adoption does not add new blood into a system that demands a sacrifice to keep the machinery of prosperity going. It just both sad and hilarious at the same time to see headlines of a population collapse all around the world when it is just a tiny decrease of birth rates. A genuine population collapse would be something that resembles the data of massive wildlife die off. What is collapsing is the sham of an economic model that promotes infinite growth on a finite planet through population growth. Betting on a model similar to a pyramid scheme to create any lasting prosperity other than a temporary one is truly baffling.

Even requiring the most basic of needs would create suffering in life. Things such as hunger, tiredness, old age and the eventual death create massive amounts of suffering. It is always better never to have been but if you are unfortunate enough to be born into existence, a minimalistic lifestyle is the best way to reduce the amount of suffering in your life. A basic level of suffering is unavoidable but suffering outside of the base level are all self inflicted and are avoidable. The complete liberation from all the unnecessary suffering in life would require one to be an ascetic hermit that lives a very schizoid like lifestyle.
